Book Study of a Satellite Attitude Control System Using Integrating Gyros as Torque Sources

Download or read book Study of a Satellite Attitude Control System Using Integrating Gyros as Torque Sources written by John S. White and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some general design criteria are derived and applied to a specific example. The results of the analytical design are compared with those of an analog computer study and also with experimental results from a low-friction platform. The results show the steady-state and transient behavior of the system using single-degree-of-freedom integrating gyros was reasonably good. A major advantage of using gyros for torque sources is that the gyros also act to stabilize the vehicle directly, even in the absence of an external reference, so that when the target is occulted, an alternate reference is not required. Book Torques and Attitude Sensing in Earth Satellites

Download or read book Torques and Attitude Sensing in Earth Satellites written by S. Fred Singer and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 7: Torques and Attitude Sensing in Earth Satellites focuses on the possible torques that can affect the angular momentum of an Earth satellite. This book provides an understanding of the environment in which a satellite operates. Organized into 16 chapters, this volume starts with an overview of the application of force-free motion to space programs. This text then discusses the torque effects of a gravitational field, particularly with its gradient. Other chapters consider a particular method of gravity-gradient stabilization that utilizes a passive device to damp librations and thereby attain a vertical orientation. This book discusses as well the effects of the geomagnetic field on the angular motion of a satellite. The reader is also introduced to the method of magnetic attitude control employed in the Tiros satellite. The final chapter deals with the problem of horizon sensing, which is important for satellites requiring Earth stabilization. Astrophysicists will find this book useful.

Book Spacecraft Attitude Determination and Control

Download or read book Spacecraft Attitude Determination and Control written by J.R. Wertz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 877 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roger D. Werking Head, Attitude Determination and Control Section National Aeronautics and Space Administration/ Goddard Space Flight Center Extensiye work has been done for many years in the areas of attitude determination, attitude prediction, and attitude control. During this time, it has been difficult to obtain reference material that provided a comprehensive overview of attitude support activities. This lack of reference material has made it difficult for those not intimately involved in attitude functions to become acquainted with the ideas and activities which are essential to understanding the various aspects of spacecraft attitude support. As a result, I felt the need for a document which could be used by a variety of persons to obtain an understanding of the work which has been done in support of spacecraft attitude objectives. It is believed that this book, prepared by the Computer Sciences Corporation under the able direction of Dr. James Wertz, provides this type of reference. This book can serve as a reference for individuals involved in mission planning, attitude determination, and attitude dynamics; an introductory textbook for stu dents and professionals starting in this field; an information source for experimen ters or others involved in spacecraft-related work who need information on spacecraft orientation and how it is determined, but who have neither the time nor the resources to pursue the varied literature on this subject; and a tool for encouraging those who could expand this discipline to do so, because much remains to be done to satisfy future needs.

Book Guidance and Control II

Download or read book Guidance and Control II written by Robert Langford and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 1014 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Guidance and Control - II focuses on the techniques and processes involved relative to the control of rockets, missiles, and other space vehicles. Divided into seven parts with 36 chapters, the book focuses first on active and passive control for space vehicles; advances in attitude control; the stabilization of earth satellites; and the theoretical and practical considerations of solar pressure attitude control for interplanetary space vehicles. The compilation also notes the use of gyrostabilizers on satellites, including the use of two-pulse attitude control and bank angle control for an asymmetric spinning satellite. Experiments on gyro rotor imbalance on a stable platform and various navigation and guidance systems are also presented. The book also looks at the use of sensors, the stellar techniques for interplanetary flights, and control of space vehicles. The text also gives emphasis on various mathematical equations used to measure fuel optimization in orbital rendezvous. Guidance techniques in lunar landing are also discussed. The compilation is important for readers interested in studying the methods, principles, and processes involved in the control of space vehicles.
