Book Sheath Blight Disease of Rice

Download or read book Sheath Blight Disease of Rice written by K. Manibhushan Rao and published by Daya Books. This book was released on 1995 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sheat blight (ShB) is considered as one of the serious diseases of rice in Asian countries and the USA. The increase in ShB incidence is largely due to changes in the rice cultivation methods as well as in the use of early-maturing, semi-dwarf, high-yielding and N-responsive cultivars. Against this background, this monographic study is aimed primarily presenting the status of our knowledge by compiling the literature available as well as the author s own experience on rice diseases over three decades. The book is meant primarily for the graduate students, rice pathologists and extension workers. This compendium should not only stimulated further research but also will be used for ShB management. It traces the history of the disease, the casual agents, its nomenclature, taxonomy, morphology, physiology, variability, histopathology and ultra structure. It is profusely illustrated with excellent plates and number of tables which project the current status in a better way. Also information has been given on the disease management by induced resistance as well as biocontrol and the future resistance as well as biocontrol and the future perspectives on this important rice disease. Book Pest Management in Soybean

Download or read book Pest Management in Soybean written by L.G. Copping and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the third in a series of volumes on major tropical and sub-tropical crops. These books aim to review the current state of the art in management of the total spectrum of pests and diseases which affect these crops in each major growing area using a multi-disciplinary approach. Soybean is economically the most important legume in the world. It is nutritious and easily digested, and is one of the richest and cheapest sources of protein. It is currently vital for the sustenance of many people and it will play an integral role in any future attempts to relieve world hunger. Soybean seed contains about 17% of oil and about 63% of meal, half of which is protein. Modern research has developed a variety of uses for soybean oil. It is processed into margarine, shortening, mayonnaise, salad creams and vegetarian cheeses. Industrially it is used in resins, plastics, paints, adhesives, fertilisers, sizing for cloth, linoleum backing, fire extinguishing materials, printing inks and a variety of other products. Soybean meal is a high-protein meat substitute and is used in the developed countries in many processed foods, including baby foods, but mainly as a feed for livestock. Soybean (Glycine max), which evolved from Glycine ussuriensis, a wild legume native to northern China, has been known and used in China since the eleventh century Be. It was introduced into Europe in the eighteenth century and into the United States in 1804 as an ornamental garden plant in Philadelphia.

Book Rural Women s Health

Download or read book Rural Women s Health written by Beverly Leipert and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2012-09-17 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The well-being of rural communities affects the well-being of those who reside in towns and cities because of rural-urban connections through food, drinking water, infectious disease, extreme environmental events, recreation, and for many, retirement residence. In rural areas themselves, women play a critical role in the health of their families and communities, yet women’s health is often marginalized or ignored. There have been limited studies to date about rural women and health in Canada. Filling an important gap in scholarship, this collection identifies priority issues that must be addressed to ensure these women’s well-being and offers innovative theoretical and methodological ideas for improvement. Rural Women’s Health integrates perspectives from rural practitioners, residents, and scholars in a variety of fields, including nursing, sociology, anthropology, and geography, to tackle issues relevant to diverse settings across the country. As such, it presents a national perspective on the nature of women’s health while respecting internal and regional diversity, as well as viewpoints from international scholarship.

Book Biology of Rice

Download or read book Biology of Rice written by S. Tsunoda and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a wealth of both general and specific information about rice. The first section outlines the distribution and mutual relationships of various types of rice with special attention to the adaptive strategy of wild and cultivated rice, and to the relationships between different ecotypes and their adaptation to low temperature, different photoperiods or different humidities. The section on rice morpho-physiology compares the characteristics of rice and dry land crops and different ecotypes with regard to seed dormancy and germination; describes the important steps in the photosynthetic structure process and its adjustment to the course of evolution of cultivated rice; studies the root and nutrient uptake and the responses to hormones in terrestrial and aquatic plants; considers the reproductive nature in relation to tolerance to environmental stress; and discusses the morphological characteristics of rice panicle in relation to grain filling, sink-source balance and variation in yield components of panicle structure. The last section reviews the genetics of rice and includes new findings on chromosomal analysis, cytoplasmic analysis and gene analysis and reviews recent achievements in tissue culture and genetic engineering techniques. The book is authoritative, well-documented and international in scope. It presents new and useful information of direct use to rice research workers and students, and of interest to crop physiologists, agronomists, plant physiologists and breeders throughout the world.

Book Entomology and Pest Management

Download or read book Entomology and Pest Management written by Larry P. Pedigo and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2021-03-15 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Larry Pedigo and Marlin Rice have produced the top pest management textbook on the market for decades. New co-author Rayda Krell has helped bring the book into the twenty-first century. The successful core concepts of the book—understanding pests in their environment and using an ecological approach to combat them—remain as robust as ever. Features that instructors have come to rely on have been retained, including insect diagnostic boxes with detailed information on important species and species groups and an appendix with keys to major insect orders. New material on genetically modified plant species and regional pest technologies complement concepts in basic and applied entomology. Taxonomies and systematics of insects have been updated throughout the book.
