Book Research to Develop Microwave Acoustic Surface Wave Delay Lines

Download or read book Research to Develop Microwave Acoustic Surface Wave Delay Lines written by Donald B. Armstrong and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents the results of work on a contract for research in the design and fabrication of microwave acoustic surface wave delay lines. Delay lines were made using a variety of substrate materials, including lithium niobate, lithium tantalate, bismuth germanium oxide, and quartz, with center frequencies as high as 1130 MHz. Special delay lines were delivered which had transducers that were designed to have specified bandpass characteristics and minimum ripple in the frequency response. In one instance, match to the required shape as close as 0.04 dB was obtained for the frequency region within the 3 dB bandwidth. The salient features of the optical fabrication process for producing transducers with line widths as small as 0.7 micrometer are included in the description of the delay line fabrication procedure. Book Surface Acoustic Wave Devices and Their Signal Processing Applications

Download or read book Surface Acoustic Wave Devices and Their Signal Processing Applications written by Colin Campbell and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surface Acoustic Wave Devices and Their Signal Processing Applications is a textbook that combines experiment and theory in assessing the signal processing applications of surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices. The operating principles of SAW devices are described from a circuit design viewpoint. This book is comprised of 18 chapters and begins with a historical background on surface acoustic waves and a discussion on the merits of SAW devices as well as their applications. The next chapter introduces the reader to the basics of acoustic waves and piezoelectricity, together with the effect of acoustic bulk waves on the performance of SAW filters. The principles of linear phase SAW filter design and equivalent circuit models for a SAW filter are then described. The remaining chapters focus on trade-offs in linear phase SAW filter design; compensation for second-order effects; harmonic SAW delay lines for gigahertz frequencies; and coding techniques using linear SAW transducers. The final chapter highlights Some other significant alternative design techniques and applications for SAW devices. This monograph will be suitable for engineering or physics students as well as engineers, scientists, and technical staff in industry who seek further information on SAW-based circuits, systems, and applications.

Book Development of Microwave Ultrasonic Delay Lines

Download or read book Development of Microwave Ultrasonic Delay Lines written by F. A. Olson and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents the theory, design and performance of microwave ultrasonic delay lines, and the results of investigations of related ultrasonic topics. The design considerations include specification and processing of delay materials, development of microwave ultrasonic thin-film transducers, studies of acoustic wave propagation, development of microwave networks for coupling to ultrasonic transducers, and design of delay line packages. Investigations are also reported of spurious suppression means and of power capability for ultrasonic delay lines. Prototype microwave ultrasonic delay lines were developed and delivered to specifications in the 500 to 2000 MHz frequency range with less than 36 db insertion loss over nominal 10 percent bandwidth, delay values from 0.3 to 3 microseconds, greater than 1 milliwatt output power, and spurious signals at least 20 db below the desired signal. The delay line packages are of shielded stripline construction, with a nominal volume of 1 cubic inch and weight of 6 ounces, suitable for operation over a large range of environmental conditions. Data on 12 delivered delay devices are reported, together with conclusions on the performance capabilities and limitations of microwave ultrasonic delay lines. (Author).

Book excerpt: Information essential for the design of acoustic surface wave filters, signal processors, and other miniature, low cost, reliable devices for use in communications and electronic sensing is given in this report. Computations of surface wave velocity and electromechanical power flow angle, and estimates of surface wave coupling to interdigital transducers are given for various orientations of the following surface wave substrate materials: Ba2NaNb5O15, Bi12GeO20, CdS, Diamond, Eu3Fe5O15, Gadolinium Gallium Garnet, GaAs, Germanium, InSb, InAs, PbS, LiNbO3, MgO, Quartz, Rutile, Sapphire, Silicon, Spinel, TeO2, YAG, YGaG, YIG, and ZnO. Particular cuts of interest are then chosen for more detailed numerical calculations of mechanical and electrical parameters governing acoustic wave propagation in crystalline media. Similar data is given for common metals. A list of material constants and a bibliography of 520 surface wave papers are also included. (Author).
