Book Studies of the Strange Hadronic Tau Decay Tau to K0 S Pi Nu Tau Using the BaBar Detector

Download or read book Studies of the Strange Hadronic Tau Decay Tau to K0 S Pi Nu Tau Using the BaBar Detector written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study of the decay?− → K{sub S}°?−?{sub?} (K{sub S}° →??−) using the BABAR detector is presented. Using 124.4 fb−1 of data we measure?(?− → {bar K}°?−?{sub {tau}}) = (0.830 ± 0.005(stat) ± 0.042(syst))%, which is the world's most precise measurement to date of this branching ratio, and is consistent with the current world average. This preliminary result, unlike most of the?({tau}− → {bar K}°?−?{sub {tau}}) measurements already published, is systematics dominated and so the biggest future improvement to this number should come from reducing the systematic uncertainties in the analysis. A study of the K? mass spectrum, from which the strange (K?) spectral function can be measured, reveals excess contributions above the K*(892) tail at higher K? mass. While in the past this has been thought to be due to K*(892) - K*(1410) interference, we find that the K*(1410), whose branching ratio to K? is approximately 7%, seems insufficient to explain the excess mass observed in the data. Instead, we perform a fit using a K*(892) - K*(1680) interference model and find better agreement. The discrepancy that remains could be due to an s-wave contribution to the interference that is not parameterized in the model used, and/or detector smearing that is not accounted for in our fit. We also attempt to find an s-wave contribution to the K? mass spectrum by searching for an sp-interference effect. While we find a hint that such an effect exists, we have neither the confidence in the statistics nor systematics in the higher K? mass region to announce an observation. We conclude that it would be a worthwhile study to pursue.

Book Hadronic B Decays at BaBar

Download or read book Hadronic B Decays at BaBar written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present preliminary results on hadronic decays of B mesons, based on data recorded at the?(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B-factory at SLAC. We measure branching fractions of many B decay modes, including decays to J/??K, J/???− and?{sub c}K final states. We report the observation of the decay B → D{sub s}+?− and the first measurement of the flavor-tagged D meson production in B° decays. Since their preliminary nature, the results presented in this paper are based on different data samples.

Book Hadronic B Decays to Open Charm at the BaBar Experiment

Download or read book Hadronic B Decays to Open Charm at the BaBar Experiment written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using about 23M B{bar B} events collected in 1999-2000 with the BABAR detector, they report on the decays B 2!D(*){bar D}(*)K and B° 2!D*D*−. The branching fractions of the low background decay modes B° 2!D*− D(*)°K are determined to be [Beta](B° 2!D*− D°K+) = (2.8 ± 0.7 ± 0.5) x 10−3 and [Beta](B° 2!D*−D*°K+) = (6.8 ± 1.7 ± 1.7) x 10−3, where the first error quoted is statistical and the second systematic. Observation of a significant number of candidates in the color-suppressed decay mode B+ 2!D*+D*− K+ is reported with a branching fraction [Beta](B+ 2!D*+D*− K+) = (3.4 ± 1.6 ± 0.9) x 10−3. Decays of the type B 2!D(*){bar D}(*) can be used to provide a measurement of the parameter sin2[beta] of the Unitarity Triangle. For this decay mode they measure a branching fraction of [Beta](B° 2!D*+D*−) = (8.0 ± 1.6 ± 1.2) x 10−4.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An upper limit has been extracted, at the 90% C.L, for the rare charmless hadronic B meson decay B ± → a0(980)±[pi]0, where a0(980)± →[eta][pi]± and [eta]→[gamma][gamma] or [eta]→ [pi]+[pi]-[pi]0. The analysis was based on a sample of approximately 340.7 fb-1 of data taken at the (4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- collider at SLAC from May 1999 to August 2006. The sample contains (379.9 ± 4.2) million B$\bar{B}$ pairs.

Book excerpt: We present preliminary results of several searches for rare charmless hadronic decays of the B meson using data collected by the BABAR detector at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center's PEP-II storage ring. We search for the decays hh−, h+h−h+, h+h−?°, X°h+, and X°K{sub S}°, where h =? or K, and X° =?' or?. In a sample of 8.8 million B{bar B} decays they measure the branching fractions. They calculate upper limits for the modes without a significant signal.

Book Study of B Decays Into to Final State D pi pi pi at BABAR

Download or read book Study of B Decays Into to Final State D pi pi pi at BABAR written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a data sample of an integrated luminosity of 57.4 fb−1 at the [Upsilon](4S) resonance taken with the BABAR detector using the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy B-Factory, hadronic decays of B meson with the final states D(*) and three pions are studied. The study is performed by fully reconstructing the exclusive decays of B → D(*) a1(1260) and the non-resonant modes B → D(*) [rho]°[pi] and B → D(*) [pi][pi][pi]. The current status of the study is presented and a dominant B → D(*) a1(1260) decay is shown.

Book Study of Hadronic and Rare B Decays in BABAR

Download or read book Study of Hadronic and Rare B Decays in BABAR written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present results from BaBar experiment for the measurement of inclusive and exclusive branching fractions of B mesons into final states containing J/[psi], [psi](2S) and [chi]c. The contributions of CP even and odd amplitudes in the decay B° 2!J/[psi]K*° are determined from an angular analysis. We report the measurements of the branching ratios B° 2!D* D*− and D* D*− K{sub S}°, and the study of exclusive two-body and quasi-two-body charmless decays. The branching fraction of the decay B° 2!K*°[gamma] has been determined and the corresponding CP asymmetry has been measured.
