Book Studies in Transonic Aerodynamic Interference

Download or read book Studies in Transonic Aerodynamic Interference written by S. N. Chaudhuri and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work reported herein represents the first phase of a study of transonic aerodynamic interference problems as applicable to store-wing-body combinations without the pylon. The nonlifting and lifting transonic integral equations in the velocity components in the field of the flow were obtained. Two methods of solution of the nonlifting case have been described. Book Transonic Aerodynamics

Download or read book Transonic Aerodynamics written by L. Pamela Cook and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1993-01-01 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume offers exciting results, perspectives, and case studies for the treatment of problems arising in transonic aerodynamics. New advances including triple deck theory, analysis of stagnation at the nose of a body, transonic choked flow, and the transonic area rule are presented. Interest in analyzing the transonic range of flight, its stability properties, and especially the question of designing reduced drag (shockless or weak shock) airfoils keeps growing. Present day commercial aircraft cruise in the transonic range. Mechanical and aeronautical engineers interested in compressible fluid flows, design of optimal wings, and an understanding of transonic flow held about wings and airfoils will find the book invaluable. This book is understandable to those with a knowledge of continuum mechanics (fluids) and asymptotic methods. It is appropriate for graduate courses in aerodynamics and mathematical methods.

Book Introduction to Transonic Aerodynamics

Download or read book Introduction to Transonic Aerodynamics written by Roelof Vos and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-04 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written to teach students the nature of transonic flow and its mathematical foundation, this book offers a much-needed introduction to transonic aerodynamics. The authors present a quantitative and qualitative assessment of subsonic, supersonic and transonic flow around bodies in two and three dimensions. The book reviews the governing equations and explores their applications and limitations as employed in modeling and computational fluid dynamics. Some concepts, such as shock and expansion theory, are examined from a numerical perspective. Others, including shock-boundary-layer interaction, are discussed from a qualitative point of view. The book includes 60 examples and more than 200 practice problems. The authors also offer analytical methods such as Method of Characteristics (MOC) that allow readers to practice with the subject matter. The result is a wealth of insight into transonic flow phenomena and their impact on aircraft design, including compressibility effects, shock and expansion waves, shock-boundary-layer interaction and aeroelasticity.

Book Steady Loads Due to Jet Interference on Wings Tails and Fuselages at Transonic Speeds

Download or read book Steady Loads Due to Jet Interference on Wings Tails and Fuselages at Transonic Speeds written by John M. Swihart and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper gives the results of some recent investigations of jet-interference effects on actual airplane configurations at transonic speeds. Data presented herein were obtained with hot jets on both wind-tunnel and flight models. Results indicate that jet-induced effects are small at subsonic speeds; however, at low supersonic Mach numbers, these effects are comparable to those obtained at substantially higher Mach numbers.

Book Facilities and Techniques for Aerodynamic Testing at Transonic Speeds and High Reynolds Number

Download or read book Facilities and Techniques for Aerodynamic Testing at Transonic Speeds and High Reynolds Number written by North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Advisory Group for Aerospace Research and Development. Fluid Dynamics Panel and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In September 1968, the FDP of AGARD held a specialists' meeting in Paris on transonic aerodynamics, in recognition of the fact that the absence of adequate theoretical methods and wind-tunnels of high enough Reynolds number had already led to costly shortcomings in the transonic performance of certain combat and transport aircraft. Since projected aerospace systems, military, civil and space-oriented, would involve flight at Reynolds number of up to 100 million, the FDP undertook an examination of the requirements of NATO nations for wind tunnel facilities for testing large models at high Reynolds numbers.

Book Special Opportunities in Helicopter Aerodynamics

Download or read book Special Opportunities in Helicopter Aerodynamics written by W. J. McCroskey and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aerodynamic research relating to modern helicopters includes the study of three-dimensional, unsteady, nonlinear flow fields. A selective review is made of some of the phenomenon that hamper the development of satisfactory engineering prediction techniques, but which provides a rich source of research opportunities: flow separations, compressibility effects, complex vortical wakes, and aerodynamic interference between components. Several examples of work in progress are given, including dynamic stall alleviation, the development of computational methods for transonic flow, rotor-wake predictions, and blade-vortex interactions.
