Book Multidisciplinary Methods in Educational Technology Research and Development

Download or read book Multidisciplinary Methods in Educational Technology Research and Development written by Justus J. Randolph and published by HAMK Press/Justus Randolph. This book was released on 2008 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past thirty years, there has been much dialogue, and debate, about the conduct of educational technology research and development. In this brief volume, the author helps clarify that dialogue by theoretically and empirically charting the research methods used in the field and provides much practical information on how to conduct educational technology research. Within this text, readers can expect to find answers to the following questions: (a) What are the methodological factors that need to be taken into consideration when designing and conducting educational technology research? (b) What types of research questions do educational technology researchers tend to ask? (c) How do educational technology researchers tend to conduct research? (d) What approaches do they use? What variables do they examine? What types of measures do they use? How do they report their research? (d) How can the state of educational technology research be improved? In addition to answering the questions above, the author, a research methodologist, provides practical information on how to conduct educational technology research--from formulating research questions, to collecting and analyzing data, to writing up the research reports--in each of the major quantitative and qualitative traditions. Unlike other books of this kind, the author addresses some of research approaches used less commonly in educational technology research, but which, nonetheless, have much potential for creating new insights about educational phenomena--approaches such as single-participant research, quantitative content analysis, ethnography, narrative research, phenomenology, and others. "Multidisciplinary Methods in Educational Technology Research and Development" is an excellent text for educational technology research methods courses, a useful guide for those conducting (or supervising) research, and a rich source of empirical information on the art and science of educational technology research. Key Questions in Educational Technology Methods Choice are appended. (Contains 13 figures and 13 tables.) [This publication was produced by the HAMK University of Applied Sciences.].

Book Learning and Instructional Technologies for the 21st Century

Download or read book Learning and Instructional Technologies for the 21st Century written by Leslie Moller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-12-16 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learning and Instructional Technologies for the 21st Century gathers research which identify models and approaches to improve learning through the inclusion of technology. These papers, from leading researchers and thinkers in instructional technology, begin by refuting the idea that education can be improved through more or better technology. Instead, the contributors emphasize specific, research-based ideas, which re-evaluate learning, reorganize schools, redirect technology, and provide instruction. Acknowledging the critical role of technology, these contributions explore technology's main advantage--its ability to enable advanced learning designs and emerging paradigms as well as to evolve learning interactions. While each paper explores a specific aspect of the role of technology, the collection shares this common theme. Without sufficient consideration to the process of learning and its many facets, technological availability alone will not provide a sustained impact on the educational process. Originating from the first AECT Research Symposium, Learning and Instructional Technologies for the 21st Century will be of interest to researchers and practitioners alike.

Book The Race between Education and Technology

Download or read book The Race between Education and Technology written by Claudia Goldin and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2009-07-01 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a careful historical analysis of the co-evolution of educational attainment and the wage structure in the United States through the twentieth century. The authors propose that the twentieth century was not only the American Century but also the Human Capital Century. That is, the American educational system is what made America the richest nation in the world. Its educational system had always been less elite than that of most European nations. By 1900 the U.S. had begun to educate its masses at the secondary level, not just in the primary schools that had remarkable success in the nineteenth century. The book argues that technological change, education, and inequality have been involved in a kind of race. During the first eight decades of the twentieth century, the increase of educated workers was higher than the demand for them. This had the effect of boosting income for most people and lowering inequality. However, the reverse has been true since about 1980. This educational slowdown was accompanied by rising inequality. The authors discuss the complex reasons for this, and what might be done to ameliorate it.
