Book Fruit Crops Cultivation Practices And Economics

Download or read book Fruit Crops Cultivation Practices And Economics written by Parshant Bakshi and published by New India Publishing Agency. This book was released on 2021-02-26 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prosperity through fruit cultivation is the new slogan gaining much acceptance among policy makers. Presently, fruit culture has established its credibility in improving income through increased productivity, generating employment and enhancing export. The focused attention on investment in fruit production during the last decade has been rewarding in terms of increased production and productivity of fruits. India has emerged as second largest producer of fruits in the world. It has diverse climates and soil for cultivation of fruit crops providing ample opportunities for the development of fruit industry but the greatest challenge in present is to produce sufficient fruit to feed the ever-increasing human population. This demands infusion of technology for an efficient utilization of resources for deriving higher output per unit of input with excellent quality of the produce within short span of time. In the present era of open economy, it has become increasingly necessary that our produce is competitive, both in the domestic as well as in international markets. This would be possible only through deployment of high-tech application and precision farming methods. Fruits are very important for human beings and also play an important role in religious practices, mythology and art. They are not only delicious but also have many nutrients which are necessary for human health. Fruit production requires a lot of science and some basic fundamental knowledge to grow them successfully. This book compiles many fundamental issues of fruit production like layout and planting, many cultural practices, growth and bearing habits of fruit crops, planting and propagation method, disease and pest management as well as cost of cultivation etc. Understanding of all these topics will help the students and fruit growers for proper knowledge of fundamentals of fruit production. We hope that this book would also be helpful for fruit growers, nurserymen, farmers, teachers, scientists, extension officers and all those who wish to become familiar with the topic in relation to their professional interest. We have tried to keep the language as simple and straight forward as possible and consistent with accurate representation of the content. Every effort has been made to present the ideas in very easy and understandable language and the interests of each reader. We would like to recommend "Fruit Crops: Cultivation Practices and Economics" to students, educators, researchers, extension specialists and orchard practitioners for cultivation practices of fruit crops and their economics.

Book The Economics of Food Loss in the Produce Industry

Download or read book The Economics of Food Loss in the Produce Industry written by Travis Minor and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-11-20 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Food loss is a serious issue in the United States. It affects all aspects of the supply chain, from farmers to consumers. While much is already known about loss at the consumer level, our understanding of the amount of food that never makes it to this stage is more limited. The Economics of Food Loss in the Produce Industry focuses on the economics of food loss as they apply to on-farm produce production, and the losses that are experienced early. The book both analyses current food loss literature and presents new empirical research. It draws lessons from those who have encountered these issues by focusing on how past regional or national estimates of food loss have been conducted with varying degrees of success. It includes chapters on several themes: understanding food loss from an economic perspective; efforts to measure food loss; case studies across commodities within the produce industry; and economic risks and opportunities. The commodity case studies provide detailed discussion of factors impacting changes in loss levels within the produce industry, and a wealth of knowledge on strategies and contexts is developed. The book concludes by identifying critical knowledge gaps and establishing future priorities. This book serves as an essential reference guide for academics, researchers, students, legislative liaisons, non-profit associations, and think tank groups in agriculture and agricultural economics.

Book The Fruits of Natural Advantage

Download or read book The Fruits of Natural Advantage written by Steven Stoll and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 1998-11-01 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The once arid valleys and isolated coastal plains of California are today the center of fruit production in the United States. Steven Stoll explains how a class of capitalist farmers made California the nation's leading producer of fruit and created the first industrial countryside in America. This brilliant portrayal of California from 1880 to 1930 traces the origins, evolution, and implications of the fruit industry while providing a window through which to view the entire history of California. Stoll shows how California growers assembled chemicals, corporations, and political influence to bring the most perishable products from the most distant state to the great urban markets of North America. But what began as a compromise between a beneficent environment and intensive cultivation ultimately became threatening to the soil and exploitative of the people who worked it. Invoking history, economics, sociology, agriculture, and environmental studies, Stoll traces the often tragic repercussions of fruit farming and shows how central this story is to the development of the industrial countryside in the twentieth century.

Book The Production of Economic Fruits in South East Asia

Download or read book The Production of Economic Fruits in South East Asia written by Othman Yaacob and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1995 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This much-needed book brings together a wealth of information--most of which is presented in English for the first time--on a wide range of tropical fruit crops with economic potential in South-East Asia. The book begins with background data on the ecosystems and production systems that exist throughout the region. Detailed descriptions of the classification, characteristics, development, and propagation of tropical fruits follow, along with an examination of orchard establishment techniques and management. The book also focuses on the structural characteristics of tropical fruit crops and on the development of major commercial enterprises that serve both the domestic and international markets. It goes on to detail problems facing the industry as a whole, describing remedial measures--such as pest control, plant protection against diseases, weed control, drainage and irrigation, post-harvest technology, and mechanization--that can counter setbacks now and in the future. Finally, the book reviews issues that will play a major role in South-East Asian tropical fruit production in the twenty-first century. Copiously illustrated and extremely wide-ranging, The Production of Economic Fruits in South-East Asia is required reading for all students, specialists, commercial producers, and rural development specialists interested in the subject.
