Book Studies in Contact Micro Radiography

Download or read book Studies in Contact Micro Radiography written by and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study was made of contact microradiographic techniques for the x-ray evaluation of tin specimens or selected small regions in large specimens. Extraneous absorbers such as air and the film holder were removed to permit the use of low-energy x rays, and high-resolution plates were used which permit magnifications up to 500x. Microradiographs are presented for graphite-coated uranium carbide particles, nickel screen, thin graphite section, and various fibrous materials. It is concluded that the contact microradiographic technique is a very useful tool. (D.L.C.).

Book Studies in Contact Microradiography

Download or read book Studies in Contact Microradiography written by and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent developments in techniques for low-voltage radiography have found application for the examination and evaluation of minute details in small or thin specimens. Utilization of x-ray tubes and helium chambers with thin windows for maximum transmission of soft x rays and bare film with dark-room exposure techniques have allowed very high contrast radiographs to be produced on low-contrast materials. These conditions, coupled with very high resolution photographic emulsion detectors, have resulted in the observation of detail approximately 1 {micron} in size. Useful examination of the plates and subsequent reproductions have been made at magnifications as high as 500X. This contact system offers the advantage of evaluation of a relatively large area, as compared to the restricted field of observation of projection microradiography. Included among the subjects have been graphite-coated UC2 particles, graphite, beryllium, paper, and other organic specimens.

Book Contact Microradiography a General Survey

Download or read book Contact Microradiography a General Survey written by Arne Engstrom and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PRESENT STATUS OF CONTACT MICRORADIO- GRAPHY: The resolution possible is that of the optimal resolution of the light microscope, i.e. about 0.2 micron. The histochemical weighing technique based on contact microradiography permits the estimation of the dry mass (weight) of cellular structures as small as 10 to the -12th to -14th power grams with an error of 5-10%. Contact microradiography with monochromatic X-rays now permits the quantitative histochemical analysis of certain elements such as P, S, and Ca with relatively good accuracy, and it seems likely that this technique can be extended successfully to estimations of C, N, and O. Qualitative microradiography has found wide use in studies of capillary circulation, mineral salt distribution, metallurgical research, and other fields. (Author).

Book X Ray Optics and X Ray Microanalysis

Download or read book X Ray Optics and X Ray Microanalysis written by H. H. Pattee and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 641 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: X-ray Optics and X-ray Microanalysis covers the proceedings of the Symposium on X-ray Optics and X-ray Microanalysis, held at Stanford University on August 22-24, 1962. The book focuses on X-ray microscopy, microradiography, radiation and irradiation, and X-ray microanalysis. The selection first offers information on the methods of X-ray microscopy and X-ray absorption microanalysis. Discussions focus on X-ray scanning microscopy, contact microradiography, point projection microscopy, and total dry-weight determinations. The text then takes a look at X-ray microanalysis in biology and medicine; electron microscopic enlargements of X-ray absorption micrographs; and automation in microradiography. The publication examines the production of Fresnel zone plates for extreme ultraviolet and soft X radiation; quantitative microradiographic studies of human epidermis; and irradiation effect on total organic nerve-cell material determined by integrating X-ray absorption. The manuscript then reviews the calculation of fluorescence excited by characteristic radiation in the X-ray microanalyzer and the method for calculating the absorption correction in electron-probe microanalysis. The selection is a valuable reference for readers interested in X-ray technology.

Download or read book Light and Electron Microscopy written by Elizabeth M. Slayter and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1992-10-30 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The compound optical microscope, in its various modern forms, is probably the most familiar of all laboratory instruments and the electron microscope, once an exotic rarity, has now become a standard tool in biological and materials research. Both instruments are often used effectively with little knowledge of the relevant theory, or even of how a particular type of microscope functions. Eventually however, proper use, interpretation of images and choices of specific applications demand an understanding of fundamental principles. This book describes the principles of operation of each type of microscope currently available and of use to biomedical and materials scientists. It explains the mechanisms of image formation, contrast and its enhancement, accounts for ultimate limits on the size of observable details (resolving power and resolution) and finally provides an account of Fourier optical theory. Principles behind the photographic methods used in microscopy are also described and there is some discussion of image processing methods. The book will appeal to graduate students and researchers in the biomedical sciences, and it will be helpful to students taking a course involving the principles of microscopy.
