The author examines these proposals using techniques of consistency and trend analysis. He concludes that a 'NATO-structured' Marine Corps would be inconsistent with a force designed to meet more probable Third World contingencies. On the other hand, he suggests certain adjustments in reserve structure and force capabilities to ensure successful employment in Europe, as well as in other contingencies.
