Book Morphology and Mechanical Behavior of Blends and Diblock Copolymers of 1 2 and 1 4 Polybutadiene

Download or read book Morphology and Mechanical Behavior of Blends and Diblock Copolymers of 1 2 and 1 4 Polybutadiene written by Robert E. Cohen and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The structure and mechanical properties of a series of polymer blends and block copolymers comprised of medium cis 1,4-polybutadiene and 99% 1,2-polybutadiene have been investigated. Thermal properties (DSC) were determined at two levels of radiation crosslinking and for various sample preparation procedures (solvent and thermal history). Dynamic mechanical spectra (3.5 Hz) were measured over temperature range from 180 to 310K. Transmission electron microscopy was also used for establishing the number phases and the domain size and geometry in the heterogeneous materials. Stress-strain curves were determined for the various samples as a function of crosslink density and casting solvent. Equilibrium swelling ratios were measured for each specimen at the same radiation dose in a good solvent. Swelling values were also obtained in a series of solvents for the parent homopolymers and for a diblock copolymer containing 45% 1,2 polybutadiene.

Book Properties of Some Diblock Copolymers Based on 1 3 Butadiene Monomer

Download or read book Properties of Some Diblock Copolymers Based on 1 3 Butadiene Monomer written by Robert E. Cohen and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The properties of three series of diblock copolymers are discussed. One series of polymers is comprised of two diblock copolymers of polystyrene and 1,2 polybutadiene in which the polybutadiene microstructure is essentially pure 1,2 addition. Hydrogenation of these polymers leads to a second set of block copolymers of polystyrene and polybutene-1. The polybutene-1 segments are atactic and therefore exhibit amorphous, rubbery behavior. A third series of samples contains four diblock copolymers of 1,4 polybutadiene and 1,2 polybutadiene; microphase separation is observed for these 1,4 polybutadiene/1,2 polybutadiene materials. Results of small-amplitude forced-oscillation mechanical tests and of large deformation constant rate of strain measurements are reported and discussed. (Author).

Book Homogenizing Properties of Diblock Polymers in Blends of Corresponding Homopolymers

Download or read book Homogenizing Properties of Diblock Polymers in Blends of Corresponding Homopolymers written by Mark A. Hartney and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A series of blends was prepared form homopolymers and diblock coploymers of 1,2-polybutadiene and 1,4-polybutadiene. Samples were studied by dynamic mechanical analysis and transmission electron microscopy to determine whether a homogeneous or heterogeneous morphology existed. Although blends of the homopolymers exhibit phase separation, inclusion of an appropriate amount of a diblock polymer can lead to a homogeneous morphology. The materials examined covered a wide range of molecular weight, composition, and diblock copolymer fraction in the blend, enabling an experimental phase diagram to be determined. These findings are compared with current theories of phase behavior for blends of diblock copolymers and homopolymers. (Author).

Book Diblock Copolymers of Polystyrene 1 2 Polybutadiene and Polystyrene Polybutene 1 Molecular Structure Morphology and Mechanical Properties

Download or read book Diblock Copolymers of Polystyrene 1 2 Polybutadiene and Polystyrene Polybutene 1 Molecular Structure Morphology and Mechanical Properties written by R. E. Cohen and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A novel set of diblock copolymers has been examined in various molecular and morphological characterization experiments, in small amplitude dynamic mechanical tests and in large deformation experiments. In all of the materials studied, one of the block sequences is atactic polystryrene; the second block is comprised of either 1,2 polybutadiene (essentially 100% vinyl adduct and atactic microstructure) or its hydrogenated product, polybutene-1 (also atactic). There is a pronounced influence of the hydrogenation of the rubbery phase on the morphology and the properties of the diblock copolymers.

Book Processing Structure and Properties of Block Copolymers

Download or read book Processing Structure and Properties of Block Copolymers written by M.J. Folkes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Block copolymers represent an important class of multi-phase material, which have received very widespread attention, particularly since their successful commercial development in the mid-1960s. Much of the interest in these polymers has arisen because of their rather remarkable micro phase morphology and, hence, they have been the subject of extensive microstructural examination. In many respects, the quest for a comprehensive interpretation of their structure, both theoretically and experimentally, has not been generally matched by a corresponding enthusiasm for developing structure/property relationships in the context of their commercial application. Indeed, it has been left largely to the industrial companies involved in the development and utilization of these materials to fulfil this latter role. While it is generally disappointing that a much greater synergism does not exist between science and technology, it is especially sad in the case of block copolymers. Thus these materials offer an almost unique opportunity for the application of fundamental structural and property data to the interpretation of the properties of generally processed artefacts. Accordingly, in this book, the editor has drawn together an eminent group of research workers, with the specific intention of highlighting some of those aspects of the science and technology of block copolymers that are potentially important if further advances are to be made either in material formulation or utilization. For example, special consideration is given to the relationship between the flow properties of block copo lymers and their microstructure.

Book Characterization of Polymer Blends

Download or read book Characterization of Polymer Blends written by Sabu Thomas and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-02-09 with total page 972 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Filling the gap for a reference dedicated to the characterization of polymer blends and their micro and nano morphologies, this book provides comprehensive, systematic coverage in a one-stop, two-volume resource for all those working in the field. Leading researchers from industry and academia, as well as from government and private research institutions around the world summarize recent technical advances in chapters devoted to their individual contributions. In so doing, they examine a wide range of modern characterization techniques, from microscopy and spectroscopy to diffraction, thermal analysis, rheology, mechanical measurements and chromatography. These methods are compared with each other to assist in determining the best solution for both fundamental and applied problems, paying attention to the characterization of nanoscale miscibility and interfaces, both in blends involving copolymers and in immiscible blends. The thermodynamics, miscibility, phase separation, morphology and interfaces in polymer blends are also discussed in light of new insights involving the nanoscopic scale. Finally, the authors detail the processing-morphology-property relationships of polymer blends, as well as the influence of processing on the generation of micro and nano morphologies, and the dependence of these morphologies on the properties of blends. Hot topics such as compatibilization through nanoparticles, miscibility of new biopolymers and nanoscale investigations of interfaces in blends are also addressed. With its application-oriented approach, handpicked selection of topics and expert contributors, this is an outstanding survey for anyone involved in the field of polymer blends for advanced technologies.

Book Micro and Nanostructured Epoxy Rubber Blends

Download or read book Micro and Nanostructured Epoxy Rubber Blends written by Sabu Thomas and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-11-03 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Epoxy resins are polymers which are extensively used as coating materials due to their outstanding mechanical properties and good handling characteristics. A disadvantage results from their high cross-link density: they are brittle and have very low resistance to crack growth and propagation. This necessitates the toughening of the epoxy matrix without impairing its good thermomechanical properties. The final properties of the polymer depend on their structure. The book focuses on the microstructural aspects in the modification of epoxy resins with low molecular weight liquid rubbers, one of the prime toughening agents commonly employed. The book follows thoroughly the reactions of elastomer-modified epoxy resins from their liquid stage to the network formation. It gives an in-depth view into the cure reaction, phase separation and the simultaneous development of the morphology. Chapters on ageing, failure analysis and life cycle analysis round out the book.
