Book Structures and Materials Assessment for Hypersonic Vehicle Technology

Download or read book Structures and Materials Assessment for Hypersonic Vehicle Technology written by Robert G. Guyton and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis and assessment program was conducted to evaluate the relative merits of candidate radiative thermo-structural configurations for a hypersonic L/D=3 reentry vehicle having a useful payload capacity. The report discusses the effects of vehicle configuration on overall structural design and attempts to assign the refractory metallic alloys to their most efficient range of design utilization expressed in terms of time-temperature-loads environmental inputs. One section of the report is devoted to the conceptual design and integration of variable geometry structure to a high L/D vehicle, with an assessment of the design penalties and problem areas incurred due to the use of variable geometry surfaces. The report identifies the analysis rationale employed in the derivation of the findings and conclusions offered in this report. The study considered the elements of design efficiency, construction techniques and processes, cost-availability considerations, and reliability in the overall investigation of the several candidate thermostructural systems.
