Book STRONG Successful Women Share Stories of Childhood Trauma and Triumph illustrated in full color

Download or read book STRONG Successful Women Share Stories of Childhood Trauma and Triumph illustrated in full color written by Mia Doucet and published by Bankerman Press. This book was released on 2023-09-11 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eighty-one successful women from 22 countries share poignant memoirs of early childhood struggle and suffering: trauma, loss, betrayal, bullying, neglect, sexual abuse, and the disconnection of dysfunctional family relationships. The memoirs read like intimate bits of conversation between best friends, overheard, at times in sordid detail. These stories are in stark contradiction to the nostalgic ones we like to tell ourselves about the charms of childhood. They paint the picture of early years that are not all sunshine and rainbows. Some will amuse. Some will tear at your heart. The author writes in a brief, clear, concise style. Original, full-color drawings capture the essence of each memory as seen through the eyes of the innocent child. "This compelling collection of personal narratives has been honored with the prestigious Literary Titan Gold Book Award, a recognition reserved for books that masterfully deliver original content, explore innovative themes, and exhibit elegant prose." NOTE: This book contains several true accounts of child abuse that some readers may find disturbing. This book is not for children.

Book excerpt: If you’re wondering if God can truly move in the life of someone with all the odds stacked against her, look no further than Tori Hope Petersen. Tori grew up in the foster care system, a bi-racial child in a confusing and volatile world. Growing up with a mentally ill mother and living in twelve different foster homes, nothing was in her favor. And yet, even with a minuscule chance of graduating college and a great risk of being homeless, jobless, and on drugs, Tori overcame every negative stereotype and assumption that attacked her identity. However, Tori will tell you she did not overcome. Christ did. In the face of the storm, Jesus made a way for Tori to find profound hope, deep faith, renewed purpose, and a loving family, too. After so many years of being on one side of foster care as a child, Tori is now on the other side as a foster mom, adoptive mom, and biological mom. On top of that, she became a Track and Field All-American in college and now works with nonprofits, ministries, and beyond advocating for foster care reform, adoption advocacy, and help for vulnerable populations. If you want to hear the true tale of an unlikely overcomer, this book is for you. If you want to learn more about the foster care system from a former foster youth’s perspective, this book is for you. If you want to better dwell in the reality of your own spiritual adoption by our Heavenly Father and better understand the orphan and the widow that He loves dearly, this book is for you. Ultimately, if you want to remember who God is, and what He can do through the most unlikely of people, Fostered is for you.

It contains life lessons and advice on how to truly live from Mary Mras, a fabulous wife, mother, sister and daughter, educator, and a teacher of all. Anyone fortunate enough to cross her path surely felt her magnetic presence. Mary lived her life with intention and by example, showed us how to live a fulfilled life not by being famous or boisterous, but by simply sharing a smile, laughing through tough times and loving her family. It's my hope to share small glimpses of a phenomenal woman, as she influenced my life, as a teacher, mentor, friend and mother-in-law. Throughout this story are Mary's words of wisdom which are in bold italics. This book also contains e-mails from Mary's husband, Tony, that give us an up-close view of her battle with Leukemia. The Epilogue is the story of how a sudden event forced me to re-evaluate my life to be more like Mary. The end is a list of 'Mary-isms' on life.

Book excerpt: The Before Columbus Foundation 2018 Winner of the AMERICAN BOOK AWARD Tommy J. Curry’s provocative book The Man-Not is a justification for Black Male Studies. He posits that we should conceptualize the Black male as a victim, oppressed by his sex. The Man-Not, therefore,is a corrective of sorts, offering a concept of Black males that could challenge the existing accounts of Black men and boys desiring the power of white men who oppress them that has been proliferated throughout academic research across disciplines. Curry argues that Black men struggle with death and suicide, as well as abuse and rape, and their genred existence deserves study and theorization. This book offers intellectual, historical, sociological, and psychological evidence that the analysis of patriarchy offered by mainstream feminism (including Black feminism) does not yet fully understand the role that homoeroticism, sexual violence, and vulnerability play in the deaths and lives of Black males. Curry challenges how we think of and perceive the conditions that actually affect all Black males.
