Book Strong Lp Solutions for Fluid Rigid Body Interaction Problems

Download or read book Strong Lp Solutions for Fluid Rigid Body Interaction Problems written by Karoline Götze and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2010 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We consider the initial boundary value problem for the movement of a rigid body in a viscous incompressible fluid. It is shown that, locally in time, a unique strong solution exists. This result has been known in the case of Newtonian fluids, in Hilbert spaces. Here, Banach space techniques are used to relax the conditions on the data and to extend the result to generalized Newtonian models. The proof rests on a suitable choice of coordinates, on maximal regularity estimates for the linearized fluid systems and on a suitable decomposition of the forces which determine the coupling of rigid and fluid parts. It works similarly in two and in three space dimensions, for exterior and for bounded fluid domains.

Book Fluid Structure Interaction and Biomedical Applications

Download or read book Fluid Structure Interaction and Biomedical Applications written by Tomáš Bodnár and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-13 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents, in a methodical way, updated and comprehensive descriptions and analyses of some of the most relevant problems in the context of fluid-structure interaction (FSI). Generally speaking, FSI is among the most popular and intriguing problems in applied sciences and includes industrial as well as biological applications. Various fundamental aspects of FSI are addressed from different perspectives, with a focus on biomedical applications. More specifically, the book presents a mathematical analysis of basic questions like the well-posedness of the relevant initial and boundary value problems, as well as the modeling and the numerical simulation of a number of fundamental phenomena related to human biology. These latter research topics include blood flow in arteries and veins, blood coagulation and speech modeling. We believe that the variety of the topics discussed, along with the different approaches used to address and solve the corresponding problems, will help readers to develop a more holistic view of the latest findings on the subject, and of the relevant open questions. For the same reason we expect the book to become a trusted companion for researchers from diverse disciplines, such as mathematics, physics, mathematical biology, bioengineering and medicine.

Book Mathematical Analysis of the Navier Stokes Equations

Download or read book Mathematical Analysis of the Navier Stokes Equations written by Matthias Hieber and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-04-28 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collects together a unique set of articles dedicated to several fundamental aspects of the Navier–Stokes equations. As is well known, understanding the mathematical properties of these equations, along with their physical interpretation, constitutes one of the most challenging questions of applied mathematics. Indeed, the Navier-Stokes equations feature among the Clay Mathematics Institute's seven Millennium Prize Problems (existence of global in time, regular solutions corresponding to initial data of unrestricted magnitude). The text comprises three extensive contributions covering the following topics: (1) Operator-Valued H∞-calculus, R-boundedness, Fourier multipliers and maximal Lp-regularity theory for a large, abstract class of quasi-linear evolution problems with applications to Navier–Stokes equations and other fluid model equations; (2) Classical existence, uniqueness and regularity theorems of solutions to the Navier–Stokes initial-value problem, along with space-time partial regularity and investigation of the smoothness of the Lagrangean flow map; and (3) A complete mathematical theory of R-boundedness and maximal regularity with applications to free boundary problems for the Navier–Stokes equations with and without surface tension. Offering a general mathematical framework that could be used to study fluid problems and, more generally, a wide class of abstract evolution equations, this volume is aimed at graduate students and researchers who want to become acquainted with fundamental problems related to the Navier–Stokes equations.

Download or read book Particles in Flows written by Tomáš Bodnár and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2017-09-30 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to face particles in flows from many different, but essentially interconnected sides and points of view. Thus the selection of authors and topics represented in the chapters, ranges from deep mathematical analysis of the associated models, through the techniques of their numerical solution, towards real applications and physical implications. The scope and structure of the book as well as the selection of authors was motivated by the very successful summer course and workshop "Particles in Flows'' that was held in Prague in the August of 2014. This meeting revealed the need for a book dealing with this specific and challenging multidisciplinary subject, i.e. particles in industrial, environmental and biomedical flows and the combination of fluid mechanics, solid body mechanics with various aspects of specific applications.

Book Fundamental Trends in Fluid structure Interaction

Download or read book Fundamental Trends in Fluid structure Interaction written by Giovanni Paolo Galdi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interaction of a fluid with a solid body is a widespread phenomenon in nature, occurring at different scales and different applied disciplines. Interestingly enough, even though the mathematical theory of the motion of bodies in a liquid is one of the oldest and most classical problems in fluid mechanics, mathematicians have, only very recently, become interested in a systematic study of the basic problems related to fluid-structure interaction, from both analytical and numerical viewpoints. Fundamental Trends in Fluid-Structure Interaction is a unique collection of important papers written by world-renowned experts aimed at furnishing the highest level of development in several significant areas of fluid-structure interactions. The contributions cover several aspects of this discipline, from mathematical analysis, numerical simulation and modeling viewpoints, including motion of rigid and elastic bodies in a viscous liquid, particulate flow and hemodynamic.

Book Natural Locomotion in Fluids and on Surfaces

Download or read book Natural Locomotion in Fluids and on Surfaces written by Stephen Childress and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-08-14 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume developed from a Workshop on Natural Locomotion in Fluids and on Surfaces: Swimming, Flying, and Sliding which was held at the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) at the University of Minnesota, from June 1-5, 2010. The subject matter ranged widely from observational data to theoretical mechanics, and reflected the broad scope of the workshop. In both the prepared presentations and in the informal discussions, the workshop engaged exchanges across disciplines and invited a lively interaction between modelers and observers. The articles in this volume were invited and fully refereed. They provide a representative if necessarily incomplete account of the field of natural locomotion during a period of rapid growth and expansion. The papers presented at the workshop, and the contributions to the present volume, can be roughly divided into those pertaining to swimming on the scale of marine organisms, swimming of microorganisms at low Reynolds numbers, animal flight, and sliding and other related examples of locomotion.
