Book excerpt: In an era of happiness, lattes and the ‘quick fix’ Donohoe explores the natural but painful experience of grief. The question on her lips is ‘Am I Grieving Normally?’ She soon discovers there is nothing normal about profound loss. This beautifully written memoir and grief manual is healing and transformative for anyone experiencing loss. “Grief provided time to heal from the brokenness of loss: my broken heart, my broken spirit, my broken life, my broken future...” Meet courageous parents who all learnt that love transcends death and that grieving is like breathing – we instinctively know how to do it. “Death stripped my son of his life yet grief provided the opportunity to strip away the protective walls I’d built around mine. Death was the doorway to his new life in spirit and as my precious son moved on, I too, was moving on. My soul had been stripped bare in preparation for my rebirth.”

You will be able to feel the love in each line of poetry and grow an appreciation for the art of seduction through the power of words. This book will allow you to understand that the concept of love making starts with the attraction of minds than the attractions of the body. Our tears flow from time to time and the world laughs at us but we have to find an oasis where we can let our souls be free. This book offers the perfect oasis for the escape of your soul.

Book Dead Souls

  • Pages : 305 pages

Book excerpt: For readers of Roberto Bolaño's Savage Detectives and Muriel Spark's Loitering with Intent, this "sublime" and "delightfully unhinged" metaphysical mystery disguised as a picaresque romp follows one poet's spectacular fall from grace to ask a vital question: Is everyone a plagiarist? (Nicolette Polek, author of Imaginary Museums). A scandal has shaken the literary world. As the unnamed narrator of Dead Souls discovers at a cultural festival in central London, the offender is Solomon Wiese, a poet accused of plagiarism. Later that same evening, at a bar near Waterloo Bridge, our narrator encounters the poet in person, and listens to the story of Wiese's rise and fall, a story that takes the entire night—and the remainder of the novel—to tell. Wiese reveals his unconventional views on poetry, childhood encounters with "nothingness," a conspiracy involving the manipulation of documents in the public domain, an identity crisis, a retreat to the country, a meeting with an ex-serviceman with an unexpected offer, the death of an old poet, a love affair with a woman carrying a signpost, an entanglement with a secretive poetry cult, and plans for a triumphant return to the capital, through the theft of poems, illegal war profits, and faked social media accounts—plans in which our narrator discovers he is obscurely implicated. Dead Souls is a metaphysical mystery brilliantly encased in a picaresque romp, a novel that asks a vital question for anyone who makes or engages with art: Is everyone a plagiarist?

Book excerpt: Discover the complex work and personal experiences of women in the exotic dancing industry What kind of woman dances naked for money? Bernadette Barton takes us inside countless strip bars and clubs, from upscale to back road as well as those that specialize in lapdancing, table dancing, topless only, or peep shows, to reveal the startling lives of exotic dancers. Based on over five years of research and from visiting clubs around the country, particularly in San Francisco, Hawaii, and Kentucky, Stripped offers a rare portrait of not just how dancers get into the business but what it's like for those who choose to strip year after year. Through captivating interviews and first-hand observation, Barton recounts why these women began stripping, the initial excitement and financial rewards from the work, the dangers of the life—namely, drugs and prostitution—and, inevitably, the difficulties in staying in the business over time, especially for their sexuality and self-esteem. Stripped provides fresh insight into the complex work and personal experiences of exotic dancers, one that goes beyond the “sex wars” debate to offer an important new understanding of sex work.

Book Paradox at Play

  • Author : Clint Johnson
  • Publisher : CUA Press
  • Release : 2022-08-26
  • ISBN : 0813235286
  • Pages : 383 pages

Download or read book Paradox at Play written by Clint Johnson and published by CUA Press. This book was released on 2022-08-26 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fresh translations of Meister Eckhart’s sermons are made available in this volume: three for the first time in English and sixteen others for the first time since C. de B. Evans translated them in 1924 and 1931, long before the critical editions of the manuscripts were published in 2003. Other important sermons are included in the translations as well. They improve upon previous translations which were not as sensitive to Eckhart’s metaphorical repertoire and his subtle word choice and phrasing. The extended introductory essay describes Eckhart’s metaphors and how they work together to form a cohesive whole. By looking at what his metaphors tell us about what an individual person is and how the view of the individual changed in the late medieval world, his ostensibly shocking rhetoric (in places where it is actually novel) is shown to be indicative of a larger cultural tide that culminated in the modern worldview. Finally, all of his homiletic choices are shown to be in service of the greater goal: catalyzing transformative change in his audience by stubbornly insisting on his paradoxes and jarring people out of their customary way of relating to God and themselves.
