Book excerpt: A hot hockey player. His boss’s daughter. And a one-night stand ten years in the making… Astrid Anderson Bouchard, a creative free spirit, has one last item on her birthday bucket list before she starts graduate school. She’s determined to hookup with Jesse Lambert and get over her long-standing crush once and for all. No more fantasizing about the guy who saved her very clumsy teen self from public humiliation at hockey camp. No more comparing him to every man she dates. One and done, and she can move on with her life. Jesse Lambert has a plan. Sign a big contract with a new team for his remaining few seasons as a pro player, then retire back home to Beaver Bend, Minnesota. Find a nice woman, settle down, and start a family. No more one-night stands, no more casual sex with random women. The Tap That charity strip event weekend is his last chance to sew some wild oats, and the sexy stranger with the pink hair and the sweet laugh fits the bill. Only after a very hot night together, Jesse learns Astrid is his new boss’s one and only daughter. Which is bad. Plus she’s furious with him for not realizing who she was before he stripped her clothes off. Not good either. And she’s accidentally revealed the naked truth about them to her father. That’s even worse. There’s only one way out of this sticky situation and it involves convincing Astrid to pretend they’re in a serious relationship so he doesn’t lose his lucrative deal with her dad. But will she give him an assist or send him straight to the penalty box?

Book Lucid Dreaming

Download or read book Lucid Dreaming written by Robert Waggoner and published by Red Wheel/Weiser. This book was released on 2008-10-01 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lucid Dreaming: Gateway to the Inner Self is the account of an extraordinarily talented lucid dreamer who goes beyond the boundaries of both psychology and religion. In the process, he stumbles upon the Inner Self. While lucid (consciously aware) in the dream state and able to act and interact with dream figures, objects, and settings, dream expert Robert Waggoner experienced something transformative and unexpected. He was able to interact consciously with the dream observer - the apparent Inner Self - within the dream. At first this seemed shocking, even impossible, since psychology normally alludes to such theoretical inner aspects as the Subliminal Self, the Center, the Internal Self-Helper in vague and theoretical ways. Waggoner came to realize, however, that aware interaction with the Inner Self was not only possible, but actual and highly inspiring. He concluded that while aware in the dream state, one has both a psychological tool and a platform from which to understand dreaming and the larger picture of man's psyche as well. Waggoner proposes 5 stages of lucid dreaming and guides readers through them, offering advice for those who have never experienced the lucid dream state and suggestions for how experienced lucid dreamers can advance to a new level. Lucid Dreaming offers exciting insights and vivid illustrations that will intrigue not only avid dreamworkers but anyone who is interested in consciousness, identity, and the definition of reality.

Download or read book Heideggerian Theologies written by Hue Woodson and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-11-27 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In light of Martin Heidegger’s contextualized influence upon them, John Macquarrie, Rudolf Bultmann, Paul Tillich, and Karl Rahner engage in theologies that, in their respective tasks and scopes, venture into existential theology, following Heideggerian pathmarks toward the primordiality of being on the way to unconcealment, or “aletheia.” By way of each pathmark, each existential theologian assumes a specific theological stance that utilizes a decidedly existential lens. While the former certainly grounds them fundamentally in a kind of theology, the latter, by way of Heideggerian influences, allows them to venture beyond any traditional theological framework with the use of philosophical suppositions and propositions. In an effort at explaining the relationship between humanity’s “being” and God’s “Being,” each existential theologian examines what it means to be human, not strictly in terms of theology, but as it is tied inextricably to an understanding of the philosophy of existence: the concept of what being is.

Book The Breakthrough Manifesto

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building a Better Path to Breakthrough, By Design Innovation is a process by which new ideas, services, and sources of value are brought to life. Yet approaches to the pursuit of innovation are often far from novel, relying on stale methodologies applied against well-defined problem sets. Or worse, left to hope or happenstance. Transformative innovation requires something else. Not just methodologies, but mindsets. Not just focusing on known challenges, but on unknown opportunities. Not just hoping for breakthrough by default but realizing breakthrough by design. In The Breakthrough Manifesto, a renowned business innovation leader teams up with a social-personality psychologist to offer that something else—a collection of 10 visionary principles to obliterate barriers to change and ignite a whole new level of creative problem-solving. Drawing upon decades of experience working with the world’s best-known organizations and their teams, the authors provide practical advice that goes beyond “business as usual” for successfully tackling intractable challenges. Bursting with behavioral science, stories from the field, and pragmatic strategies, The Breakthrough Manifesto explores why these principles are critical for the current times and how they can spark breakthrough and unlock potential for you and your teams. Whether you’re an executive or manager, product or service designer, educator or student, this book is a must-read for anyone inspired to change the world or transform their own place in it.

Book Multifactorial Analysis in Corpus Linguistics

Download or read book Multifactorial Analysis in Corpus Linguistics written by Stefan Thomas Gries and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2005-04-29 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a novel analysis of the word-order alternation of English transitive phrasal verbs (Particle Movement) from a cognitive-functional and psycholinguistic perspective. Its main objective, however, is a methodological one, namely, to demonstrate the superiority of corpus-based, multifactorial and probabilistic approaches to grammatical phenomena over traditional analyses based on acceptability judgements and minimal pair tests. The advantages resulting from the advocated multifactorial approach to Particle Movement are: Particle Movement can be described at a previously unknown level of detail; all determinants ever proposed to govern the alternation can be integrated into a single hypothesis explaining the alternation; constructions can be compared to each other with respect to their degree of prototypicality and similarity; it is possible to actually predict with a high degree of accuracy which of the two word orders native speakers will subconsciously choose in the natural production of speech and text (thereby passing the most rigorous test conceivable); finally, competing hypotheses can be compared in terms of their predictive power. Apart from these methodological points, the study also addresses the more theoretical and linguistic question of how to explain such results. It is argued that theories of language production that rest on the notion of processing effort are, contrary to some contemporary analysts, not ideally suited to explain such phenomena and that interactive activation models of language production allow for a more elegant interpretation and implementation of the results.

Book Holy Fable Volume IV

Download or read book Holy Fable Volume IV written by Robert M. Price and published by Pitchstone Publishing (US&CA). This book was released on 2020-04-21 with total page 844 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this fourth volume of Robert M. Price's celebrated Holy Fable series, he turns his critical lens away from the Bible and toward a broader range of scriptural works that were written, or rediscovered, in modern times. Employing the same sympathetic but eagle-eyed treatment that defined past volumes, he offers in-depth analysis of the Joseph Smith–penned Book of Mormon; the long-sealed Gospel according to Thomas; the New Age Jesus of the Aquarian Gospel; the H. P. Lovecraft–invented Necronomicon; and the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar. With his trademark scholarship and wit, he demonstrates how and why this eclectic mix of contemporary scriptural work provides genuine spiritual inspiration to a colorful variety of religious groups and seekers today.
