Book Stresses and Deflections in Loaded Rectangular Plates on Elastic Foundations

Download or read book Stresses and Deflections in Loaded Rectangular Plates on Elastic Foundations written by Glenn Murphy and published by . This book was released on 1937 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The object of this paper is to present a method of determining stresses and deflections in rectangular plates supported on elastic foundations with particular reference to plates which deflect free from the foundation under the action of the load. Part I contains the mathematical analysis and explains the use of influence values for determining stresses and deflections at several points in the loaded plate. Part II contains comparisons of analytical results with measured results from tests on steel plates supported on rubber foundations. Comparisons are also made with results obtained by using Westergaard's formulas for concrete pavement slabs.

Book Elastic Analysis of Soil Foundation Interaction

Download or read book Elastic Analysis of Soil Foundation Interaction written by A.P.S. Selvadurai and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developments in Geotechnical Engineering, Vol. 17: Elastic Analysis of Soil-Foundation Interaction focuses on the analysis of the interaction between structural foundations and supporting soil media. The publication first elaborates on soil-foundation interaction problems; idealized soil response models for the analysis of soil-foundation interaction; and plane-strain analysis of an infinite plate and an infinitely long beam. Discussions focus on three-dimensional effects in the infinite beam problem, elastic models of soil behavior, foundation and interface behavior, and elastic-plastic and time-dependent behavior of soil masses. The manuscript then ponders on the analysis of beams of finite length, axisymmetric three-dimensional problem of an infinite plate, and analysis of finite plates. Concerns cover axisymmetric loading of a circular plate, analysis of rectangular plates, axisymmetric three-dimensional problem of the infinite plate, modifications of the thin plate theory, finite beams on a two-parameter elastic medium, and finite beams on an elastic solid medium. The book tackles the determination of soil parameters, experimental investigations and field studies, as well as experimental investigations and field studies and measurement and interpretation of parameters encountered in the idealized soil models in relation to soil-foundation behavior. The publication is a valuable reference for researchers interested in the elastic analysis of soil-foundation interaction.

Book Theory and Analysis of Elastic Plates and Shells Second Edition

Download or read book Theory and Analysis of Elastic Plates and Shells Second Edition written by J. N. Reddy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1999-02-10 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text presents a complete treatment of the theory and analysis of elastic plates. It provides detailed coverage of classic and shear deformation plate theories and their solutions by analytical as well as numerical methods for bending, buckling and natural vibrations. Analytical solutions are based on the Navier and Levy solution method, and numerical solutions are based on the Rayleigh-Ritz methods and finite element method. The author address a range of topics, including basic equations of elasticity, virtual work and energy principles, cylindrical bending of plates, rectangular plates and an introduction to the finite element method with applications to plates.

Book Stresses in Beams Plates and Shells

Download or read book Stresses in Beams Plates and Shells written by Ansel C. Ugural and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2009-08-26 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Noted for its practical, student-friendly approach to graduate-level mechanics, this volume is considered one of the top references—for students or professioals—on the subject of elasticity and stress in construction. The author presents many examples and applications to review and support several foundational concepts. The more advanced concepts in elasticity and stress are analyzed and introduced gradually, accompanied by even more examples and engineering applications in addition to numerous illustrations.Chapter problems are carefully arranged from the basic to the more challenging. The author covers computer methods, including FEA and computational/equation-solving software, and, in many cases, classical and numerical/computer approaches.

Book A Semi infinite Plate on an Elastic Foundation

Download or read book A Semi infinite Plate on an Elastic Foundation written by D. E. Nevel and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The solution of the problem of a semi-infinite plate on an elastic foundation is presented. This problem occurs when a load is applied near the edge of a floating ice sheet. The equations are evaluated for an edge load, and the results given in graphical form for the following: (a) The maximum deflection which occurs at the edge under the load, (b) The moment which causes the initial cracking of the plate, (c) The distance from the edge that the circumferential crack will occur, (d) The moment that causes the circumferential crack. The same method of solution can be applied to an infinite strip on an elastic foundation with any combination of simple, rigid, or free support at the edges. (Author).

Book Stresses in Plates and Shells

Download or read book Stresses in Plates and Shells written by A. C. Ugural and published by McGraw-Hill Companies. This book was released on 1981 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to its easy writing style, this is the most accessible book on the market. It provides comprehensive coverage of both plates and shells and a unique blend of modern analytical and computer-oriented numerical methods in presenting stress analysis in a realistic setting. Distinguished by its broad range of exceptional visual interpretations of the solutions, applications, and means by which loads are carried in beams, plates and shells. Combining the modern-numerical, mechanics of materials, and theory of elasticity methods of analysis, it provides an in-depth and complete coverage of the subject, not explored by other texts. Its flexible organization allows instructors to more easily pick and choose topics they want to cover, depending on their course needs. Students are exposed to both the theory and the latest applications to various structural elements. Two new chapters on the fundamentals provide a stronger foundation for understanding the material. An increased emphasis on computer tools, and updated problems, examples, and references, expose students to the latest information in the field.

Book Foundations of the Theory of Elasticity Plasticity and Viscoelasticity

Download or read book Foundations of the Theory of Elasticity Plasticity and Viscoelasticity written by Eduard Starovoitov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-07-18 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foundations of the Theory of Elasticity, Plasticity, and Viscoelasticity details fundamental and practical skills and approaches for carrying out research in the field of modern problems in the mechanics of deformed solids, which involves the theories of elasticity, plasticity, and viscoelasticity. The book includes all modern methods of research as well as the results of the authors’ recent work and is presented with sufficient mathematical strictness and proof. The first six chapters are devoted to the foundations of the theory of elasticity. Theory of stress-strain state, physical relations and problem statements, variation principles, contact and 2D problems, and the theory of plates are presented, and the theories are accompanied by examples of solving typical problems. The last six chapters will be useful to postgraduates and scientists engaged in nonlinear mechanics of deformed inhomogeneous bodies. The foundations of the modern theory of plasticity (general, small elastoplastic deformations and the theory of flow), linear, and nonlinear viscoelasticity are set forth. Corresponding research of three-layered circular plates of various materials is included to illustrate methods of problem solving. Analytical solutions and numerical results for elastic, elastoplastic, lineaer viscoelastic and viscoelastoplastic plates are also given. Thermoviscoelastoplastic characteristics of certain materials needed for numerical account are presented in the eleventh chapter. The informative book is intended for scientists, postgraduates and higher-level students of engineering spheres and will provide important practical skills and approaches.
