Book Emotional Intelligence and Stress Management at the Workplace

Download or read book Emotional Intelligence and Stress Management at the Workplace written by David Rewayi Mpunwa and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2020-05-27 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2020 in the subject Health - Stress management, , course: Research Paper, language: English, abstract: The desideratum of the discourse is aimed to determine stress management and emotional intelligence at the workplace, especially with a global pandemic at hand. The global pandemic Coronavirus has arguably ushered in stress and global crisis in the economy and health sector. The crisis results from the collision of vulnerabilities and specific trigger events. The crisis triggers are unpredictable and predicting the timing of a crisis is a fool ‘s errand. Anyone can become splenetic that is easy. However, to be ferocious with the right staff, to the right extent, at the correct time, for the correct purpose, and correctly, this is not burdensome. Emotional intelligence has been demonstrated to be one of the essential determinants for effective leadership. First-line supervisors who appreciate and employ their emotional intelligence in the workplace are more procumbent, and recumbent to retain their staff, enjoy greater collaboration, commitment, and to experience increases in co-worker performance. Academic intelligence has infinitesimal to do with emotional life. The sagacity among us can founder on the shallow of unbridled passions and boisterous impulses; people with high IQ can be remarkedly poor pilots of their private lives. To know that employees are valedictorian is to know they are vastly good at achievement as evaluated by grades. It does not unravel about how they boomerang to the vicissitudes of life. Emotionally intelligent women employee, by juxtaposition, be inclined to be assertive and express their sentiments directly, and to feel unequivocal about themselves; life holds nuts and bolts for them. Like the men, they are cordial, gregarious, and express their ethos appropriately; they roll with punches well to stress. We discovered that 68% are extremely and highly worried of the devastating effects of the pandemic of mass destruction. A stress prevention strategy coupled with coping strategies such as the employment of Wellness programs, breathing, peer support, counselling, religion, exercising, encouraging holiday to the beach and meditation to be employed by Secretaries. Cognitive coping and active coping strategies can be encouraged to Secretaries.

Stress is the cause of a variety of ailments, from true physical problems like increased immune deficiency, heart problems, high blood pressure, weight problems and more. What's more, the psychological issues that excessive stress cause are responsible for millions of filled prescriptions, drug and alcohol dependencies and broken relationships year after year. The excellent guide, The Smart & Easy Guide To Reducing & Managing Stress: The Ultimate Worry, Anxiety And Stress Management Techniques And Treatments To Take You From Coping To Living, provides real world, easy-to-follow advice on how to identify and manage stress. Jackson makes great arguments for the huge problem coping with worry, stress management and anxiety treatment poses to our society, including: Poor health problems Negative interpersonal relations Drug and alcohol dependency Difficulties with managing job responsibilities Financial issues Suicide He notes that much of the stress we face is self-induced, meaning that we put that stress and pressure on ourselves - though this makes it no less real or potentially harmful. We all know how unhealthy and devastating stress can be, but we often fail to see our own culpability in our coping with worry, stress management and anxiety treatment. We are often responsible for our excessive burdens such as: Overworking at our jobs Too many after work commitments Toxic interpersonal relationships Expecting perfection He advocates taking account of our life stressors and determine what we do and do not have control over. Once we do this, we can work on changing those things we do have control over, and learn how to find more healthy and adaptive ways of dealing with the stressful areas of our lives that are beyond our control. The Smart & Easy Guide To Reducing & Managing Stress: The Ultimate Worry, Anxiety And Stress Management Techniques And Treatments To Take You From Coping To Living is here to help. When it comes to areas of our lives that are stressful, but out of our control, Jackson offers a variety of stress-relieving measures that help to make life more bearable during times of unavoidable coping with worry, stress management and anxiety treatment. The best means of dealing with stress seems to be to avoid dwelling on it and letting it control your life. Jackson suggests the following activities as potential stress relieving measures: Healthy eating Physical activity Taking a multivitamin Massage Deep breathing Crafts or other creative endeavors Yoga He also outlines the common, negative ways that many people choose to manage their stress. Drug and alcohol are often used by stressed out people to calm down and chill out. This often leads to dependency, which has a whole host of negative consequences. Risky behaviors, such as promiscuous sex or excessive spending may be distracting now, but will only serve to compound stress later. The Smart & Easy Guide To Reducing & Managing Stress: The Ultimate Worry, Anxiety And Stress Management Techniques And Treatments To Take You From Coping To Living gives you more productive and effective options. The Smart & Easy Guide To Reducing & Managing Stress: The Ultimate Worry, Anxiety And Stress Management Techniques And Treatments To Take You From Coping To Living is a helpful reducing stress book, written in plain English, that illustrates the problems that coping with worry, stress management and anxiety treatment has on our lives and provides a means to help us identify our sources of stress and find better ways of dealing with it. You hear it all the time: stress causes heart disease; stress causes insomnia; stress is bad for you! But what if changing how you think about stress could make you happier, healthier, and better able to reach your goals? Combining exciting new research on resilience and mindset, Kelly McGonigal, PhD, proves that undergoing stress is not bad for you; it is undergoing stress while believing that stress is bad for you that makes it harmful. In fact, stress has many benefits, from giving us greater focus and energy, to strengthening our personal relationships. McGonigal shows readers how to cultivate a mindset that embraces stress, and activate the brain's natural ability to learn from challenging experiences. Both practical and life-changing, The Upside of Stress is not a guide to getting rid of stress, but a toolkit for getting better at it—by understanding, accepting, and leveraging it to your advantage.

Book The Stress Effect

Download or read book The Stress Effect written by Henry L. Thompson, Ph.D. and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-05-03 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reveals the powerful and undermining effects of stress on good decision making-and what leaders can do about it The ability to make sound and timely decisions is the mark of a good leader. But when leaders with otherwise strong track records suddenly begin making poor decisions-as seen in the recent corporate scandals that rocked the business world-the impact can be widespread. In The Stress Effect, leadership expert Henry L. Thompson argues that stress is often the real culprit behind this leadership failure: when leaders' stress levels become sufficiently elevated-whether in the boardroom or on the front line of a manufacturing process-their ability to effectively use their emotional intelligence and cognitive ability in tandem to make wise decisions is significantly impaired. Until now, experts have argued that increasing your emotional intelligence will help you cope with and manage stress. This book suggests that stress actually blocks access to your emotional intelligence as well as your cognitive ability, two critical components in the decision-making process. This book Shows how stress adversely affects the performance of even the most savvy leaders Reveals the truth about one of the prime factors behind the current failure of leadership Offers a solid prescription for building a "stress resilient system" and arms leaders with best practices for managing specific stressors that take the biggest toll on decision making Is written by an award-winning organizational psychologist and leadership consultant whose clients include a roster of Fortune 500 companies A groundbreaking and insightful resource for leaders, The Stress Effect reopens the dialogue on stress, its effect on decision making, and what to do about it.
