Book Successful Case based Reasoning Applications

Download or read book Successful Case based Reasoning Applications written by Stefania Montani and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-09-07 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Case-based reasoning (CBR) is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) technique to support the capability of reasoning and learning in advanced decision support systems. CBR exploits the specific knowledge collected on previously encountered and solved situations, which are known as cases. In this book, we have collected a selection of papers on very recent CBR applications. These, after an in-depth analysis of their specific application domain needs, propose proper methodological solutions and give encouraging evaluation results, which have in some cases led to the commercialization step. The collected contributions demonstrate the capability of CBR to solve or handle issues which would be too difficult to manage with other classical AI methods and techniques, such as rules or models. The heterogeneity of the involved application domains indicates the flexibility of CBR, and its applicability in all those fields where experiential knowledge is (readily) available.

Book Liberalism in Nineteenth Century Europe

Download or read book Liberalism in Nineteenth Century Europe written by Alan Kahan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-08-07 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Votes should be weighed, not counted', Nineteenth-century liberals argued. This study analyzes parliamentary suffrage debates in England, France and Germany, showing that liberals throughout Europe used a distinctive political language, 'the discourse of capacity', to limit political participation. This language defined liberals, and they used it to define and limit full citizenship. The rise of consumer culture at the end of the century drove the discourse of capacity from politics, but it survives today in education and the professions.

Book Timber Construction Manual

Book excerpt: THE DEFINITIVE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY SOURCE FOR BUILDING WITH WOOD NOW IN A THOROUGHLY UPDATED SIXTH EDITION Since its first publication in 1966, Timber Construction Manual has become the essential design and construction industry resource for building with structural glued laminated timber. Timber Construction Manual, Sixth Edition provides architects, engineers, contractors, educators, and related professionals with up-to-date information on engineered timber construction, including the latest codes, construction methods, and authoritative design recommendations. Content has been reorganized to flow easily from information on wood properties and applications to specific design considerations. Based on the most reliable technical data available, this edition has been thoroughly revised to encompass: A thorough update of all recommended design criteria for timber structural members, systems, and connections An expanded collection of real-world design examples supported with detailed schematic drawings New material on the role of glulam in sustainable building practices The latest design and construction codes, including the 2012 National Design Specification for Wood Construction, AITC 117-2010, and examples featuring ASCE 7-10 and IBC 2009 More cross-referencing to other available AITC standards on the AITC website Since 1952, the AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF TIMBER CONSTRUCTION has been the national technical trade association of the structural glued laminated timber industry. AITC-recommended building and design codes for wood-based structures are considered authoritative in the United States building industry.

Book Primary Wood Processing

Download or read book Primary Wood Processing written by John C.F. Walker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-09-13 with total page 603 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is primarily a general text covering the whole sweep of the forest industries. The over-riding emphasis is on a clear, simple interpretation of the underlying science, demonstrating how such principles apply to processing operations. The book considers the broad question "what is wood?" by looking at the biology, chemistry and physics of wood structure. Wood quality is examined, and explanations are offered on how and why wood quality varies and the implications for processing. Finally, various "industrial processes" are reviewed and interpreted. All chapters have been written by specialists, but the presentation targets a generalist audience.

Book Student Stress

    Book Details:
  • Author : Kevin J. Swick
  • Publisher : NEA Professional Library
  • Release : 1987
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 104 pages

Download or read book Student Stress written by Kevin J. Swick and published by NEA Professional Library. This book was released on 1987 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is concerned with the problem of student stress and the possibility that children and adolescents will internalize ineffective coping strategies used by adult models available to them. The introductory chapter explains a need for an educational plan to promote ways of controlling stress; recommends a systematic approach to managing stress; and describes roles of classroom teachers in helping students cope with stress. It reports that classroom management schemes that encourage student involvement, focus on positive interpersonal relationships, encourage the formation of positive self-concepts, and provide time-space arrangements in which individual and group needs can be met have been shown to promote mental health and eliminate negative stress. Chapter 2 looks at sources of stress and differentiates between adult-perceived stress and child-perceived stress. Readiness for dealing with stress is discussed and identity anxiety is presented as a major source of stress. Chapter 3 examines stress in schools and classrooms. Time, space, and human relations dimensions of school stress and classroom stress are described and the impact of classroom stress is considered. Chapter 4 presents techniques for preventing and resolving teacher, environmental, and student stress. Extension strategies involving parents and communities are discussed. Chapter 5 presents a systems approach for dealing with classroom stress which consists of assessing the classroom ecology, formulating a plan of action, and creating a productive classroom ecology. A bibliography and list of additional readings are included. (NB)

Book The Acquisition of Swahili

Download or read book The Acquisition of Swahili written by Kamil Ud Deen and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is the first study of the acquisition of Swahili as a first language. It focuses on the acquisition of inflectional affixes, with a particular emphasis on subject agreement and tense. Other inflectional affixes are also investigated, including object agreement and mood. The study surveys the adult dialect in question, Nairobi Swahili, discussing social, phonological, morphological and syntactic properties. Data, analyses and copious examples are presented of the naturalistic speech of four Swahili speaking children. The data are tested against six influential theories of child language, and the results show that processing and metrical theories of telegraphic speech fail to account for the observed patterns, while grammatical theories of child language fair significantly better. The data and analyses presented in this book are indispensable for linguists and psychologists interested in the acquisition of inflectional material and other cross-linguistic properties of child language.
