This book was released on 2018-03-17 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Silver-Medal Strawberry Plants and Other Choice Products of the Garden, 1923 My sales of quality plants have surpassed my expectations, although I have been restricted by a lack of sufficient ground on which to raise enough to meet a growing demand. But now, having leased some excellent land, I am prepared to meet the requirements of an exacting trade for the season of 1923. I shall increase my plantings only so fast as there is a demand for well grown plants of a few varieties of exceptional merit. For, I am more de sirons of making a few friends, than I am to dump off large quantities of questionable plants at a low price. In many years as a practical grower, I have learned that no amount of care in after-culture will overcome the error of planting poorly grown and carelessly packed plants of inferior quality. Book Catalog of Strawberries and Other Small Fruit Plants 1923 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Catalog of Strawberries and Other Small Fruit Plants 1923 Classic Reprint written by Bridgman Nursery Company and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Catalog of Strawberries and Other Small Fruit Plants, 1923 We have grown them for the past ten years, during which time they have never frozen back, or failed to produce a large crop of berries. The berries, which are a beautiful jet black, ripen in large quantities, without red seeds, green tips, or the hard pits in the center found in inferior ber ries. They respond well to careful culture and repay the grower many times for his care and attention. Each plant in our fine lot of root-cutting black berry plants has a well-developed root system of its own. You are certain to get a liberal picking from them the first season after planting. The culture of blackberries is a very simple matter. It is important that they be placed in the ground, at just the depth at which they were grown, pref erably in light soil. Trim to a height of two or three feet the following season. It is well to pick out the centers of the plants while they are grow ing to increase the number of branches. The root-cutting blackberry will cost a little more than the ordinary blackberry, but will more than repay you for the added expense. We have a limited supply of these plants, so advise you to place your orders early. See page 16 for prices. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Strawberry Plants That Grow, 1920 Again we are sending our Annual Booklet, Strawberry Plants That Grow, which is our Traveling Salesman. In it we shall endeavor to describe our location, our method of doing business, list of varieties and truthful description of their qualities. We are located in the section of the country known as the Great Fruit Belt of Michigan. This locality seems to be especially adapted to the growth of Strawberry and other Small Fruit plants. Our business was founded thirty-seven years ago, when we began growing strawberry plants in our present location, and for thirty consecutive years we have m'ailed our Annual Catalog to prospective customers. Until the season of 1918 the business was run under the sole direction and management of its founder, C. E. Whitten. At that time he was joined by his son, Roger C. Whitten, who has since been actively engaged with him in operating the business. It has always been our aim to grow and send out the very best plants that could be grown, and we have always taken great pains that our stock was true to name and unmixed and packed in the best possible manner for shipment. We expect to be able to continue our business along this line. Our satisfied customers who continue to order their plants from us from year to year, we con sider our very best recommendation and we appreciate this, and intend to retain these friends if honest treatment can do it.
