Download or read book Glacigenic Sediments written by K. Brodzikowski and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1990-12-11 with total page 689 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims primarily at providing those involved in fundamental or applied research in the fields of geology, geomorphology and hydrology with a systematic overview of glacigenic sediments. A generally applicable terminology is proposed which should facilitate communication between scientists from several fields. Also it should form a bridge between western and eastern "schools" dealing with Quaternary geology. Because the book is mainly devoted to depositional processes and the resulting deposits, the approach and the terminology followed in this book are obviously founded strongly on sedimentology, the geological discipline that deals specifically with these phenomena. The book will be helpful in describing the sediments involved, interpreting their genesis, establishing their extent and their mutual relationships, and thus in the reconstruction of the palaeogeographic development. The large list of references reflects the author's extensive search of the literature.

Download or read book Handbook of Indiana Geology Classic Reprint written by W. N. Logan and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-30 with total page 1144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Handbook of Indiana Geology The Handbook of Indiana Geology is, in a large measure, the result of a co-operative plan which had its inception shortly after the establishment of the Department of Conservation of Indiana. The plan constitutes an agree ment whereby the instructional staff of the Department of Geology. Of Indiana University conducts the field and laboratory investigations for the Department of Conservation, thus obviating the necessity for large salary expenditures. In this manner our slender geological funds may be used to defray other expenses incurred in the investigation of the mineral resources of Indiana. This plan of co-operation under which not even the State Geologist's salary is paid by the Division, provides the Department of Conservation a corps of trained workers in all the various phases of geological work. Phases having a cultural, educational, economic and scientific bearing. Evidence of the success of the co-operative plan is to be found in the present volume. There is a Latin proverb to the effect that nothing worth while is aecom plished without great effort. It is well exemplified in this treatise. Some of the preliminary investigations necessary for the results embodied in this volume have been carried on by the collaborators for more than a score of years. During the past two years their efforts have been concentrated toward the completion of the work. Each spare moment has been employed without expectation of monetary reward. Thus we have here garnered the fruits of years of labor at an expense to the State of what amounts virtually to the cost of printing the volume. Sales from two of the chapters which were printed in advance will assist materially in defraying the expenses of printing the complete work. Download or read book Geology of Illinois written by Dennis R. Kolata and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geology of Illinois has been compiled from more than a century of earth science investigations in Illinois. For the first time, this information has been summarized and made accessible in one volume to help both geologists and non-geologists better understand how the state's mostly unseen geology affects, and is affected by, life on the surface. More than 200 color photographs, maps, and drawings illustrate the text. Topics include : the history of geological investigations in Illinois; the impact of the state's tectonic and structural history; the properties and classification of its rocks and sediments; the rich heritage of its land, water, and mineral resources; the threats from its geological hazards; and the application of geological information to societal issues.
