These are the four elements of strategy which illustrate the integrative nature of strategic management. It quickly becomes apparent that the key to successful strategy is effective integration — of resources, competences, markets, opportunities, organizational structure, culture, environment, innovation, technology, processes, decisions and actions. There are four crucial areas of debate and these are covered in depth. They are:- Boards and Governance — suggests that no element of strategy is better positioned to influence strategy and its integration than senior management. Competition and Core Competences — examines their interdependence and relationship with successful strategy. Organizational Restructuring — discusses organizational types, IT and strategy, managing in a dynamic environment and measurement of strategic performance. Technology — demonstrates relationship between technological change and strategy, structure, culture, and competition; and the relationship between quality and strategy, and integrating technology and marketing strategies. Strategic Integration is concerned with building and maintaining bridges between theory and practice. On the research side it generates and tests theories related to business and management; and on the practitioner side it shows how to learn, understand, and apply tested theories in practice.

Book Business Models and Strategic Management

Download or read book Business Models and Strategic Management written by Francine Newth and published by Business Expert Press. This book was released on 2012-12-11 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finally, a book comes along that provides a unique yet simple and powerful approach to understand the business model and the critical role strategic management has in supporting it. Its value is in business model thinking. It brings you a combination of the best contributions of academe and industry that will help build business model-centric organizations. Inside, you’ll learn about strategy from a business model perspective. What does that mean? It means that you’ll first have to think rigorously about your value proposition; your current or future competencies; and your revenue streams and cost structure before developing, adopting, or modifying your strategies. What is the difference between a business model and a strategy? A business model is how a company operates, and a strategy is how a company competes. When the basis of competition changes because a new model disrupts the economics in the industry, it requires an adjustment in business models before any new strategy can work. This book adds a business model level to the traditional strategic management process that is more consistent with current “real-world” practices in strategic thinking and analysis. It takes you deeper into the intricacies of what constitutes a business model and how current strategy derives from it, and offers 7 modules that will show you the key components to manage your business model, to help conduct business model analysis, and to assess the financial viability of a business model, just to name a few.

Book Surviving Supply Chain Integration

Download or read book Surviving Supply Chain Integration written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2000-03-23 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The managed flow of goods and information from raw material to final sale also known as a "supply chain" affects everythingâ€"from the U.S. gross domestic product to where you can buy your jeans. The nature of a company's supply chain has a significant effect on its success or failureâ€"as in the success of Dell Computer's make-to-order system and the failure of General Motor's vertical integration during the 1998 United Auto Workers strike. Supply Chain Integration looks at this crucial component of business at a time when product design, manufacture, and delivery are changing radically and globally. This book explores the benefits of continuously improving the relationship between the firm, its suppliers, and its customers to ensure the highest added value. This book identifies the state-of-the-art developments that contribute to the success of vertical tiers of suppliers and relates these developments to the capabilities that small and medium-sized manufacturers must have to be viable participants in this system. Strategies for attaining these capabilities through manufacturing extension centers and other technical assistance providers at the national, state, and local level are suggested. This book identifies action steps for small and medium-sized manufacturersâ€"the "seed corn" of business start-up and developmentâ€"to improve supply chain management. The book examines supply chain models from consultant firms, universities, manufacturers, and associations. Topics include the roles of suppliers and other supply chain participants, the rise of outsourcing, the importance of information management, the natural tension between buyer and seller, sources of assistance to small and medium-sized firms, and a host of other issues. Supply Chain Integration will be of interest to industry policymakers, economists, researchers, business leaders, and forward-thinking executives.

Book Fundamentals of Software Integration

Download or read book Fundamentals of Software Integration written by Kay Hammer and published by Jones & Bartlett Learning. This book was released on 2008 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integration is one of the most critical technical challenges in software today, as well as a difficult topic to generalize because of the many things affecting it — the technologies involved, the timeframe, the number and types of user communities requiring access, regulatory requirements, and so on. For this reason, Hammer and Timmerman have developed this comprehensive and unique overview of the evolution of software technology, with a particular emphasis on long-standing problems that remain unsolved. Fundamentals of Software Integration builds on this through background, presenting an abstract model of the software application and its environment, along with a methodology for how to use this model to develop an integration strategy that meets both the short– and long–term needs of an organization. This text utilizes an accessible writing style and strategic exercises to help students recognize similarities in the integration challenges faced across technologies.

Book excerpt: High-Value Supply Chain Integration New research, practical priorities, actionable solutions Master new best practices for integrating demand, supply, and partners worldwide Bridge key “integration gaps” to maximize customer value and profit Improve performance in areas ranging from resource availability to returns From leading supply chain integration experts at the University of Tennessee’s Haslam College of Business In volatile, global environments, only well-integrated organizations can deliver superior customer outcomes and sustained profitability. Supply chain practitioners are on the frontlines of integration: they must bring together functions ranging from sales to logistics and a world of third-party suppliers. Integration is not easy, but proven solutions exist. In Achieving Supply Chain Integration, leading experts reveal what works and how to make it work. The authors and contributors clarify what supply chain integration really means, and why it’s even more crucial than many companies realize. You’ll learn how to manage core conflicts that make integration difficult, so you can maximize value to both customers and your organization. You’ll find example-based, research-driven insights for both internal and external integration, addressing issues ranging from culture to financial metrics. The authors share practical guidance on everything from building more innovative partner relationships to avoiding raw material shortages. Whatever your supply chain or operations responsibilities, you need to integrate more effectively, and this guide will help you do it. Supply chain integration can ensure a smoother, more efficient flow of products, and enable access to third-party resources and capabilities that would be costly or impossible to build internally. However, successful integration has proven challenging, especially as supply chains evolve to encompass even more external partners. Achieving Supply Chain Integration shows how to prioritize which processes and functions to integrate and select integration strategies likely to deliver the greatest performance benefits. Drawing on actual successes and failures, UT’s researchers illuminate best practices and common mistakes. They present proven approaches to integrating sales, marketing, core supply chain functions such as procurement and logistics, and widely diverse partner relationships. Whether you’re a practitioner or student, this guide will help you approach integration projects with “eyes open”–so you can mitigate risks and maximize value. Understanding what integration is and isn’t, and why it matters so much Bridging the integration gap to maximize value creation Fully leveraging information in internal and external integration Driving more value by integrating purchasing and logistics Aligning market, environmental, social, and political strategies Achieving deeper demand/supply integration Reducing product returns through better internal integration Building more innovative, collaborative supplier relationships
