This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Quantum Chromodynamics predicts a phase transition from a state formed by hadrons to a plasma of deconfined quarks and gluons, the Quark Gluon Plasma, as a the energy density exceeds a critical value. This deconfined phase is believed to be the one in which the early universe existed in a time-scale [approx.] 10−5 s after the Big Bang. Ultrarelativistic Heavy Ion Collisions, like the ones that take place at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory, reach energy densities above the critical value creating a deconfined phase of quarks and gluons that can be studied at the laboratory. This gives us the opportunity to study a phase of matter in the deconfined region of QCD, the properties of the strong interaction, the formation of hadronic matter and the interaction between hadrons. In the analysis presented in this thesis, the dynamical evolution of the particle emitting source and its space-time structure at freeze-out is studied using the two particle intensity interferometry technique. The expansion of the source is also studied. We find indications that this expansion may be caused by the initial pressure gradient generated in the initial stages of the collision through particle rescattering in a very dense medium.

Download or read book Nuclear Physics written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1999-03-31 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dramatic progress has been made in all branches of physics since the National Research Council's 1986 decadal survey of the field. The Physics in a New Era series explores these advances and looks ahead to future goals. The series includes assessments of the major subfields and reports on several smaller subfields, and preparation has begun on an overview volume on the unity of physics, its relationships to other fields, and its contributions to national needs. Nuclear Physics is the latest volume of the series. The book describes current activity in understanding nuclear structure and symmetries, the behavior of matter at extreme densities, the role of nuclear physics in astrophysics and cosmology, and the instrumentation and facilities used by the field. It makes recommendations on the resources needed for experimental and theoretical advances in the coming decade.

This book was released on 2010 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this research is to try to discover what occurred during the first three milliseconds of the universe. As of now , Quark-Giuon Plasma, QGP, is what scientists believe existed at the beginning. QGP is studied through the STAR Experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ton Collider. Mass distributions and fitted transverse momentum spectrum for KSO, /\, and anti-/\ 's were developed . The ratio of /\ to anti-/\ 's was found.

Book Production of Strange Clusters in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions

Download or read book Production of Strange Clusters in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We address a number of issues related to the production of strangeness in high energy heavy ion collisions, including the possibility that stable states of multi-strange hyperonic or quark matter might exist, and the prospects that such objects may be created and detected in the laboratory. We make use of events generated by the cascade code ARC to estimate the rapidity distribution dN/dy of strange clusters produced in Si+Au and Au+Au collisions at AGS energies. These calculations are performed in a simple coalescence model, which yields a consistent description of the strange cluster (d, [sup 3]HE, [sup 3]H, [sup 4]He) production at these energies. If a doubly strange, weakly bound [Lambda][Lambda] dibaryon exists, we find that it is produced rather copiously in Au+Au collisions, with dN/dy [approximately]0.1 at raid-rapidity. If one adds another non-strange or strange baryon to a cluster, the production rate decreases by roughly one or two orders of magnitude, respectively. For instance, we predict that the hypernucleus [sub [Lambda][Lambda]][sup 6]He should have dN/dy [approximately]5 [times] 10[sup [minus]6] for Au+Au central collisions. It should be possible to measure the successive [Lambda] [yields] p[pi][minus] weak decays of this object. We comment on the possibility that conventional multi-strange hypernuclei may serve as doorway states'' for the production of stable configurations of strange quark matter, if such states exist.

Book Mini jet and Particle Production in Ultra relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions

Download or read book Mini jet and Particle Production in Ultra relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mini-jet and particle production are studied in the framework of HIJING Monte Carlo model which can describe pp and p{bar p} collisions well from ISR to Fermilab Tevatron energies. Mini-jets are shown to have eminent contributions to particle production in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions. However, parton shadowing and jet quenching also have important effects and can be studied by single particle distributions. 19 refs., 5 figs.

Book Meson Production in Relativistic Heavy ion Collisions at AGS Energies

Download or read book Meson Production in Relativistic Heavy ion Collisions at AGS Energies written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Single particle inclusive spectra are presented for pion and kaon production in Si + Au reactions at an incident momentum of 14.6 A [center dot] GeV/c and Au + Au reactions at an incident momentum of 11.6 A [center dot] GeV/c. A simple geometric scaling of the pion production for central collisions as A[sub proj][sup 1/3] and A[sub targ][sup 2/3] results from the observed production of about one pion per participant. Kaon yields are shown to be proportional to the number of excited participants and consistent with RQMD and ARC calculations.
