Book Strain and Its Implications in Organic Chemistry

Download or read book Strain and Its Implications in Organic Chemistry written by Armin de Meijere and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topic ·Stress and Strain· of this conference was ideally constrasted by the remoteness and quiet atmosphere of the meeting place Hotel Seehof In Ratzeburg, a small medieval town situated on a peninsula in lake "Kuchensee· east of Hamburg In northern Germany. With the participation of 53 leading experts from all over the world, the workshop covered the widest possible range from the advancement of bonding theory, new mechanistic insights into chemical transformations and physical properties of highly strained compounds to their use as building blocks In organic synthesis and even as probes Into the detection of enzyme mechanisms. Because of their specific reactivities small ring units can uniquely play their role in the construction of composite functionalities. Such functionalities can increase the elegance In natural and non-natural products syntheses, since they help to develop more convergent synthetic routes and Improve the necessary chemo-, regio-and stereo-selectivity. This book presents all of the 20 Invited lectures and is complemented with short versions of 12 contributed papers and 13 poster presentations. I am convinced that it will stimulate further rapid development of this field of organic chemistry, which recently has seen extensions into the bioorganic area as well as towards new materials. In fact, several ·supra-natural" -at first sight exotic -compounds are already available In useful quantities and are being exploited to create vastly new molecular devices, i. e. compounds with unprecedented molecular functions and polymers with unconventional properties.

Book Advances in Strained and Interesting Organic Molecules

Download or read book Advances in Strained and Interesting Organic Molecules written by B. Halton and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-12-27 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The eighth volume of this series comprises six chapters and describes a variety of interesting strained and not so strained molecules and their use - or abuse - in the widest sense. This volume contains a position summary of planar carbon networks, the field of strained allenesis addressed by considering the five- to- nine-membered ring derivatives and this is followed by an introduction to the nature of carbene geometry and the use of ESR spectroscopy in deducing carbene structure. The use of strained molecules in the synthesis of important new compounds of a natural and non-natural nature is a main theme in the volume. Other areas that are discussed are strained carbohydrates, stereocontrolled access to natural products and polymer systems as well as a much sought after contribution to the series on small-ring nitrogen heterocycles.

Book Advances in Physical Organic Chemistry

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This series, established by Victor Gold in 1963, brings before the chemical community substantial, authoritative, and considered reviews of areas of chemistry in which quantitative methods are used in the study of the structures of organic compounds and their relation to physical and chemical properties.Physical organic chemistry is viewed as a particular approach to scientific enquiry rather than a further intellectual specialization. Organometallic compounds are included, and relevant aspects of physical theoretical, inorganic, and biological chemistry are incorporated in reviews where appropriate.

Book Reactivity and Mechanism in Organic Chemistry

Download or read book Reactivity and Mechanism in Organic Chemistry written by Hendrik Zipse and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2022-09-16 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Completely revised and updated, this 2nd Edition of Reactivity and Mechanism in Organic Chemistry is an ideal introduction to the quantitative description of organic reactivity for students in undergraduate and masters chemistry programmes. The book proceeds logically from qualitative molecular orbital theory as a tool for the description of bonding phenomena to combining this with thermochemical data to rationalise concepts such as molecular strain and hyperconjugation. Next, transition state theory, for examining organic reactivity phenomena, is introduced and its relation to energy surfaces and simple rate equations is discussed. On this basis more specific reactivity concepts commonly used in organic chemistry are explored such as the Bell–Evans–Polanyi principle, Marcus theory, HSAB principle, Hammett correlations, the Mayr–Patz equation, and FMO theory. How these reactivity models are applied is demonstrated for pericyclic reactions and selected rearrangement reactions involving transient intermediates such as radicals, diradicals, or carbocations, and for reactions involving classical electrophile/nucleophile combinations.

Book Aspects of Organic Chemistry

Download or read book Aspects of Organic Chemistry written by Gerhard Quinkert and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1996 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modeling molecular structures is a useful tool for the description, classification and understanding of molecules – species, which have already been synthesized, and others existing only in the imagination of the chemist. The first part of the four–volume series ′Aspects of Organic Chemistry′ focuses on molecular structure, especially that of nucleid acids and proteins. The authors, a team of internationally recognized specialists, present a modern interdisciplinary concept between chemistry – and biology – an approach, which proved to be useful in university education. A unique book, important for both lecturers and students. Subjects of the three remaining volumes are ′Reactivity′, ′Synthesis′ and ′Methods of Structure Elucidation′.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its original appearance in 1977, Advanced Organic Chemistry has found wide use as a text providing broad coverage of the structure, reactivity and synthesis of organic compounds. The Fourth Edition provides updated material but continues the essential elements of the previous edition. The material in Part A is organized on the basis of fundamental structural topics such as structure, stereochemistry, conformation and aromaticity and basic mechanistic types, including nucleophilic substitution, addition reactions, carbonyl chemistry, aromatic substitution and free radical reactions. The material in Part B is organized on the basis of reaction type with emphasis on reactions of importance in laboratory synthesis. As in the earlier editions, the text contains extensive references to both the primary and review literature and provides examples of data and reactions that illustrate and document the generalizations. While the text assumes completion of an introductory course in organic chemistry, it reviews the fundamental concepts for each topic that is discussed. The Fourth Edition updates certain topics that have advanced rapidly in the decade since the Third Edition was published, including computational chemistry, structural manifestations of aromaticity, enantioselective reactions and lanthanide catalysis. The two parts stand alone, although there is considerable cross-referencing. Part A emphasizes quantitative and qualitative description of structural effects on reactivity and mechanism. Part B emphasizes the most general and useful synthetic reactions. The focus is on the core of organic chemistry, but the information provided forms the foundation for future study and research in medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry, biological chemistry and physical properties of organic compounds. The New Revised 5th Edition will be available shortly. For details, click on the link in the right-hand column.
