Download or read book Mindful eten written by Susan Albers and published by Ten Have. This book was released on 2013-07-08 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: Love Phobia, the English translation of Hannah Cuppen's bestselling 'Liefdesbang', shows you how to open your heart for yourself and then for others, without fears of abandonment or commitment. 'Would you like to have a relationship but do you find that your partner always withdraws? Do you keep falling in love with someone who is already taken? Or do you have the tendency to keep the other person at a distance, just as they are beginning to develop feelings for you? If you keep ending up in situations like this, you might recognise the dance of pursuit and withdrawal. You’re not the only one! The fundamental conflict between our need for intimacy and our need for freedom creates this game of pursuit and withdrawal, of attracting and repelling. It imprisons us in destructive dependency relationships. This book explains why people with fear of abandonment attract people with fear of commitment. With great clarity and openness Hannah Cuppen offers insight and shows which steps you can take towards greater self-esteem, self-love and connection. If you want to stop your ‘love-phobic’ dance and become available for love again, this book will show you the way. “Love Phobia is a much needed map, guiding the reader to the treasures of loving and being loved, free of fear and past patterns. If you find yourself running after people who are not available and running away from those who are, this book can help. Cuppen offers the wisdom and tools to transform your romantic life and find the love you have been longing for.” – Jessica Graham, author of Mindful and Mindblowing Sex. Hannah Cuppen is therapist, trainer and bestselling author. Before her first book was published in 2014 (the Dutch edition of Love Phobia), she had spent ten years running her own psychotherapy practice. Throughout her training she specialized in the dynamic of fear of abandonment and fear of commitment. Her book Love Phobia became a bestseller in The Netherlands, and has now sold more than 100,000 copies. “Love Phobia is a masterpiece! It is one of the most insightful and helpful books on love I have read. I recommend it to you wholeheartedly.” – Robert Holden, author of Loveability and Finding Love Everywhere.

Book excerpt: Looking at the ways in which the memory of slavery affects present-day relations in Amsterdam, this ethnographic account reveals a paradox: while there is growing official attention to the country’s slavery past (monuments, festivals, ritual occasions), many interlocutors showed little interest in the topic. Developing the notion of “trace” as a seminal notion to explore this paradox, this book follows the issue of slavery in everyday realities and offers a fine-grained ethnography of how people refer to this past – often in almost unconscious ways – and weave it into their perceptions of present-day issues.

Book Gamification in Education and Business

Download or read book Gamification in Education and Business written by Torsten Reiners and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-22 with total page 749 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is dedicated to applied gamification in the areas of education and business, while also covering pitfalls to avoid and guidelines needed to successfully implement for a project. Using different theoretical backgrounds from various areas including behavioral economics, game theory, and complex adaptive systems, the contributors aim to help readers avoid common problems and difficulties that they could face with poor implementation. The book’s contributors are scholars and academics from the many areas where the key theory of gamification typically comes from. Ultimately, the book’s goal is to help bring together the theories from these different disciplines to the field of practice in education and business. The book is divided into four parts: Theory, Education, Business, and Use Cases. Part I provides a foundation on the theory of gamification and offers insight into some of the outstanding questions that have yet to be addressed. In Part II, the application and value that gamification can bring within the education sector is examined. The book then changes focus in Part III to spotlight the use of gamification within business environments. The topics also cover educational aspects like improved learning outcomes, motivation, and learning retention at the workplace. Finally Part IV concentrates on the applications and use of gamification through a series of case studies and key elements that are used in real situations to drive real results.

Book Obese Humans and Rats Psychology Revivals

Download or read book Obese Humans and Rats Psychology Revivals written by Stanley Schacter and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2014-10-14 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1974, this volume examines the behavioural similarities of obese humans and animals whose so-called feeding centre (the ventro-medial hypothalamic nuclei) has been lesioned. Both the obese human and the VMH-lesioned animal seem to share a hyposensitivity to the internal (physiological) cues to eating and hypersensitivity to external cues associated with food. Beginning with a review, these obese animals and the human obese are compared point by point on experimental results reported in the literature. Then, new findings are presented that specifically tested humans for relationships that are well-established for lesioned animals. Next, a theoretical framework integrates the human and animal data to postulate that the relationship of cue prominence and probability of response is stronger for the obese than for normal. The causes for this, and the extension of the basis for the obese’s eating behaviour to other areas, are discussed in light of further experiments that will make this invaluable reading for all concerned with the history of obesity and the issues of regulatory behaviour.
