Book Ranking Queries on Uncertain Data

Download or read book Ranking Queries on Uncertain Data written by Ming Hua and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-03-28 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Uncertain data is inherent in many important applications, such as environmental surveillance, market analysis, and quantitative economics research. Due to the importance of those applications and rapidly increasing amounts of uncertain data collected and accumulated, analyzing large collections of uncertain data has become an important task. Ranking queries (also known as top-k queries) are often natural and useful in analyzing uncertain data. Ranking Queries on Uncertain Data discusses the motivations/applications, challenging problems, the fundamental principles, and the evaluation algorithms of ranking queries on uncertain data. Theoretical and algorithmic results of ranking queries on uncertain data are presented in the last section of this book. Ranking Queries on Uncertain Data is the first book to systematically discuss the problem of ranking queries on uncertain data.

Book Understanding Control Flow

Download or read book Understanding Control Flow written by Peter A. Buhr and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-24 with total page 755 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The control-flow issues presented in this textbook are extremely relevant in modern computer languages and programming styles. In addition to the basic control-flow mechanisms, virtually all new computer languages provide some form of exceptional control flow to support robust programming introduced in this textbook. Also, concurrency capabilities are appearing with increasing frequency in both new and old programming languages, and are covered in this book. Understanding Control Flow: With Concurrent Programming Using μC++ starts with looping, and works through each of the basic control-flow concepts, examining why each is fundamental and where it is useful. Time is spent on each concept according to its level of difficulty. Examples and exercises are also provided in this textbook. New programming methodologies are requiring new forms of control flow, and new programming languages are supporting these methodologies with new control structures, such as the concurrency constructs discussed in this textbook. Most computers now contain multi-threading and multi-cores, while multiple processors and distributed systems are ubiquitous — all of which require advanced programming methodologies to take full advantage of the available parallelism summarized in this textbook. Advance forms of control flow are becoming basic programming skills needed by all programmers, not just graduate students working in the operating systems or database disciplines. This textbook is designed for advanced-level students studying computer science and engineering. Professionals and researchers working in this field, specifically programming and software engineering, will find this book useful as a reference.

Book Massive Graph Analytics

Download or read book Massive Graph Analytics written by David A. Bader and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-07-20 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Graphs. Such a simple idea. Map a problem onto a graph then solve it by searching over the graph or by exploring the structure of the graph. What could be easier? Turns out, however, that working with graphs is a vast and complex field. Keeping up is challenging. To help keep up, you just need an editor who knows most people working with graphs, and have that editor gather nearly 70 researchers to summarize their work with graphs. The result is the book Massive Graph Analytics." — Timothy G. Mattson, Senior Principal Engineer, Intel Corp Expertise in massive-scale graph analytics is key for solving real-world grand challenges from healthcare to sustainability to detecting insider threats, cyber defense, and more. This book provides a comprehensive introduction to massive graph analytics, featuring contributions from thought leaders across academia, industry, and government. Massive Graph Analytics will be beneficial to students, researchers, and practitioners in academia, national laboratories, and industry who wish to learn about the state-of-the-art algorithms, models, frameworks, and software in massive-scale graph analytics.

Book The Theory of Hash Functions and Random Oracles

Download or read book The Theory of Hash Functions and Random Oracles written by Arno Mittelbach and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-19 with total page 788 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hash functions are the cryptographer’s Swiss Army knife. Even though they play an integral part in today’s cryptography, existing textbooks discuss hash functions only in passing and instead often put an emphasis on other primitives like encryption schemes. In this book the authors take a different approach and place hash functions at the center. The result is not only an introduction to the theory of hash functions and the random oracle model but a comprehensive introduction to modern cryptography. After motivating their unique approach, in the first chapter the authors introduce the concepts from computability theory, probability theory, information theory, complexity theory, and information-theoretic security that are required to understand the book content. In Part I they introduce the foundations of hash functions and modern cryptography. They cover a number of schemes, concepts, and proof techniques, including computational security, one-way functions, pseudorandomness and pseudorandom functions, game-based proofs, message authentication codes, encryption schemes, signature schemes, and collision-resistant (hash) functions. In Part II the authors explain the random oracle model, proof techniques used with random oracles, random oracle constructions, and examples of real-world random oracle schemes. They also address the limitations of random oracles and the random oracle controversy, the fact that uninstantiable schemes exist which are provably secure in the random oracle model but which become insecure with any real-world hash function. Finally in Part III the authors focus on constructions of hash functions. This includes a treatment of iterative hash functions and generic attacks against hash functions, constructions of hash functions based on block ciphers and number-theoretic assumptions, a discussion of privately keyed hash functions including a full security proof for HMAC, and a presentation of real-world hash functions. The text is supported with exercises, notes, references, and pointers to further reading, and it is a suitable textbook for undergraduate and graduate students, and researchers of cryptology and information security.
