Book excerpt: The basis for the Peacock TV series Teacup: An extraterrestrial bounty hunter turns a Southern community into its private hunting ground in “the ultimate horror novel” (The Philadelphia Inquirer). The West Texas desert towns of Inferno and Bordertown have been slowly dying. The Snake River isn’t the only thing that divides them. Racism and gang wars have turned the sun-scorched flatlands into a powder keg. If anything can unite them now, it’s the UFO that comes crashing through the clouds. It brings with it a young alien named Daufin, a fugitive who has taken human form. She knows the terror that awaits this planet—because it’s looking for her. Stinger is an alien bounty hunter with an infinite capacity for death and a devious plan to find Daufin. Entombing the region in an inescapable dome, Stinger unleashes a violent fury unknown to humankind. Now, the few remaining survivors must come together to protect Daufin, themselves, and the world beyond. From Robert McCammon, the New York Times–bestselling and Bram Stoker Award–winning author, Stinger is “one of the best suspense novels of recent years” (Science Fiction Chronicle). It has now been adapted into one of the most hotly anticipated horror series on television: Teacup, premiering on Peacock this October.

Marine biologist Doc Ford invites Maribel, Luke, and Sabina to a remote island in the Bahamas where lionfish, a beautiful and venomous inhabitant of the South Pacific that has invaded Florida and the Caribbean, are not just upsetting the balance of nature by damaging the coral reefs—their sting has put several people in the hospital. What Doc and Captain Hannah Smith don’t mention is that the island is riddled with limestone caves, once home to a band of pirates, and stories of Spanish gold have lured outlaw treasure hunters to the area. When the trio finds precious artifacts, they agree to guard the secret until they’ve thoroughly explored the spot. Soon, outlaws search for the trio, hoping they will lead them to riches.

Book The Stinger Is in the Tail

Download or read book The Stinger Is in the Tail written by Michael Ward and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2012-06 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE STINGER IS IN THE TAIL, BOOK I OF A TRILOGY This novel deals with the sensitive subject of child molestation and its effects on Mikey O'Farrell, an intelligent and sensitive seven-year-old boy who is molested by his mother's lover, then violently assaulted, first by a stranger, and then by his priest. Almost daily in the media we hear another grown man weeping as he discloses his story of being molested as a boy. We observe him suddenly becoming the terrified child he once was, when his innocence was stolen. The heart-rending revelations spilling from such a damaged man does little to lift the fog of misapprehension and ignorance of the public of how molestation might affect a child during the years that follow. The descriptions of the sexual assaults are very graphic and may require a sturdy constitution to read. Hopefully, explicit descriptions of child molestation, and certain homosexual sex acts will not be viewed as pornographic, but as enlightening. But that would be up to the interpretations of the reader, since definitions of pornography vary among individuals. After Mikey is molested, he becomes very sexualized, even into his teen years, and introduces other children, including his siblings, to mutual sexual activity. He is inducted into a brief stint as a child prostitute by two pedophile brothers. He begins a conflicted, primarily homosexual lifestyle characterized by guilt-ridden, obsessive sexual behavior. Throughout everything, Mikey continues with his troubled lifestyle into his teens, convinced in time he will "convert" to the heterosexual lifestyle for which he yearns, and be freed of his driven behavior. In the Epilogue, the story comes full circle, returning to the original molester, with a new victim. The man is killed by a passerby who happens on the assault. Book II picks up MIkey's life as a young soldier. Michael Ward Born in Washington State, a long time ago Currently live in Woodland Hills, California, with my three dogs (who accept no blame for this novel) Lived in England, France, The Netherlands, and Spain at various times Wrote TV sitcoms in Hollywood briefly, left to pursue a career painting and teaching art. I still paint when I am not writing, I wrote my first novel at the age of eleven, and two unpublished novels as an adult. "Stinger" is my fourth novel, the first published. It is Book I of a trilogy. I anticipate publication of Book II, "The Shadow Side of the Moon," and Book III, "In The Land of Tinsel and Honey," within the next year, with the further chronicles of Mikey O'Farrell. You may contact me and my dogs by email at [email protected]. I have a thick skin, if you wish to complain about this novel. I am also open to appraisals of genius.

Book excerpt: If you were to ask Dr. Gene Feldman why he wasn't working, he would tell you he was on a sabbatical. In reality, he was suspended from the Emergency Department because someone died while in his care. When he discovers that his patient was one of many who recently succumbed to killer bee stings, it could turn out to be his salvation. As he begins a study in an attempt to clear his name, deaths from bee stings continue to increase.During his investigation, Gene teams up with entomologist Dr. Lucy Benton, where together they discover that these bees--far from ordinary--seem to demonstrate extreme intelligence. What's worse, the authorities have located over a dozen massive hives along the east coast, and it appears the bees are getting ready for an assault. Now, along with the Army and National Guard, Lucy and Gene formulate a plan to destroy all the hives in one coordinated attack. And they have to do it before the bees realize what is about to happen to them.

Download or read book Stingers written by Fred Allen and published by . This book was released on 2021-08-06 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author presents this book based on his personal experiences in the Vietnam War. His intent is to portray his perspective as an 18-year-old Stinger Gunship Crew Chief/Door Gunner. He wants the reader to experience what it is like to kill dozens of enemy combatants and collateral, non-combatants. How to live with the frequent near-death experiences and the constant high probability of being killed. Endure the frequent loss of fellow soldiers in combat. Witness a young soldier losing all sense of humanity as he transforms into a warrior that thrives on killing. The real life incidents portray a platoon of Huey UH-1C gunships, called the "Stingers" and its elite, motivated crews. As a component of U.S. Army assault helicopter companies, the "guns" protected the Huey "slicks" as they inserted or extracted infantry troops from landing and extraction zones. The gunships regularly conducted "search and kill" missions. They were often scrambled to provide lifesaving protection for infantry units threatened by enemy forces. Gunship crews were among the most lethal pilots, crew chiefs and door gunners in Army aviation. Some gunship crew chiefs had over 400 hundred personal kills. An intense warrior mentality was crucial to mission success and survival. Killing was a way of life in the guns. One of the most decorated and experienced aviation combat units in the Vietnam War was the Stingers' parent, the 116th Assault Helicopter Company, known as the "Hornets".Follow the operational strategy as Army Command reassigns the Hornets from III Corps, near Saigon to Chu Lai in I Corps under the command of the 23rd Infantry Division, known as "Americal".Experience the rapid increase of lethal enemy encounters. Americal imposed severe constraints on the Stingers in the aftermath of the My Lai massacre. The Stingers and slick platoons of the 116th fight on. The young combat veteran becomes "short" with just a few months left in his tour of duty. Americal reassigns the 116th to Quang Tri, one of the most dangerous places in Vietnam. War news headlines are articulated in real-time to frame the author's story.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nicknamed “the truck killer,” the AC-119K gunship and its counterpart, the AC-119G, were developed in the late 1960s in response to the needs of the U.S. military in Vietnam. This important book examines the evolution of these aircraft and their role within Vietnam, military policy, and geopolitical realities. Drawing on unpublished studies and a host of primary materials, William Head discusses the events that led to the birth of the AC-119, the planning and modification processes that followed, and its operational history. The G model, or “Shadow,” focused on air support and anti-personnel missions. “Stinger,” the K model, which could carry more cargo for longer distances, was suited for destruction of enemy vehicles. Though the AC-119 was only an interim asset, its descendants—the AC-130E, H, and U—have played an active role in the recent conflict in Iraq. A narrative of the crews and pilots who executed the missions and the engineers, designers, and the politicians responsible for the aircraft, Shadow and Stinger will be of interest to Vietnam veterans, historians, and scholars, as well as aviation enthusiasts.

Download or read book Good Hunting written by Jack Devine and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2014-06-03 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A sophisticated, deeply informed account of real life in the real CIA that adds immeasurably to the public understanding of the espionage culture—the good and the bad." —Bob Woodward Jack Devine ran Charlie Wilson's War in Afghanistan. It was the largest covert action of the Cold War, and it was Devine who put the brand-new Stinger missile into the hands of the mujahideen during their war with the Soviets, paving the way to a decisive victory against the Russians. He also pushed the CIA's effort to run down the narcotics trafficker Pablo Escobar in Colombia. He tried to warn the director of central intelligence, George Tenet, that there was a bullet coming from Iraq with his name on it. He was in Chile when Allende fell, and he had too much to do with Iran-Contra for his own taste, though he tried to stop it. And he tangled with Rick Ames, the KGB spy inside the CIA, and hunted Robert Hanssen, the mole in the FBI. Good Hunting: An American Spymaster's Story is the spellbinding memoir of Devine's time in the Central Intelligence Agency, where he served for more than thirty years, rising to become the acting deputy director of operations, responsible for all of the CIA's spying operations. This is a story of intrigue and high-stakes maneuvering, all the more gripping when the fate of our geopolitical order hangs in the balance. But this book also sounds a warning to our nation's decision makers: covert operations, not costly and devastating full-scale interventions, are the best safeguard of America's interests worldwide. Part memoir, part historical redress, Good Hunting debunks outright some of the myths surrounding the Agency and cautions against its misuses. Beneath the exotic allure—living abroad with his wife and six children, running operations in seven countries, and serving successive presidents from Nixon to Clinton—this is a realist, gimlet-eyed account of the Agency. Now, as Devine sees it, the CIA is trapped within a larger bureaucracy, losing swaths of turf to the military, and, most ominous of all, is becoming overly weighted toward paramilitary operations after a decade of war. Its capacity to do what it does best—spying and covert action—has been seriously degraded. Good Hunting sheds light on some of the CIA's deepest secrets and spans an illustrious tenure—and never before has an acting deputy director of operations come forth with such an account. With the historical acumen of Steve Coll's Ghost Wars and gripping scenarios that evoke the novels of John le Carré even as they hew closely to the facts on the ground, Devine offers a master class in spycraft.
