Book excerpt: Heartfelt and humorous: An A to Z companion to growing older, filled with the unfiltered opinions and preoccupations of seniors today When do we become “senior”? At age sixty? At retirement? Or, the moment we can’t do something that was previously simple? While there are endless books on “staying young,” there are precious few on embracing your age. Enter brilliant new aphorist Peter Buckman! In this appealing guide, Buckman distills over 200 A-to-Z topics into sage wisdom, such as: “Secrets are not all that safe when we grow forgetful about who we’re not supposed to share them with.” And, “Respect should be accorded us for our sheer survival, if not for our achievements!” Wry and revealing, Still With It! thoroughly examines the preoccupations of today’s seniors, and encourages readers of all ages to view elders in a brighter light: not just older, but also most certainly wiser.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is It Still Good to Ya? sums up the career of longtime Village Voice stalwart Robert Christgau, who for half a century has been America's most widely respected rock critic, honoring a music he argues is only more enduring because it's sometimes simple or silly. While compiling historical overviews going back to Dionysus and the gramophone along with artist analyses that range from Louis Armstrong to M.I.A., this definitive collection also explores pop's African roots, response to 9/11, and evolution from the teen music of the '50s to an art form compelled to confront mortality as its heroes pass on. A final section combines searching obituaries of David Bowie, Prince, and Leonard Cohen with awed farewells to Bob Marley and Ornette Coleman.

  • ISBN : 1440639779
  • Pages : 210 pages

Download or read book Still Doing It written by Deirdre Fishel and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2008-10-02 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "An informed, honest, joyous book. Younger women may well envy us." -Suzanne Braun Levine, author of Inventing the Rest of Our Lives and "Sex, love, and life can grow even richer as we grow older, and the stereotype-busting women in this book show us scores of ways. These women are not going downhill, they're on a roll. They are women of juice and wisdom-and living proof that the best is yet to come."- Gina Ogden, PhD, author of Women Who Love Sex, The Heart and Soul of Sex, and The Return of Desire When Deirdre Fishel and Diana Holtzberg began work on their documentary Still Doing It, they knew they were catching a wave. The women of the baby-boom generation who had been so outspoken about sexuality and freedom were about to turn sixty, yet no one was talking about the revolution in aging. Nor was anyone letting on about the big dark secret that women born before the boomers, even way before, were a hell of a lot more vital than the images we were getting, and many were still having sex-and loving it! In Still Doing It, Fishel, Holtzberg, and the incredible women in their documentary broke the silence. Now they are back, with a stimulating and eye-opening book that offers a deeper look at women who break every stereotype we have about sex and intimacy. These women are dynamic, confident, opinionated, and wise. They're also having the kind of intense sexual experiences and fantasies we never associate with grandmothers. You'll meet Betty, who met her live-in boyfriend in an online chat room when she was sixty-nine and he was twenty-two; Joani, age seventy, who shares her boyfriend with another woman; and Frances, who encountered the intellectual and sexual love of her life at eighty. Today's women are living longer, healthier lives, and their appetite for sex and adventure isn't fading. Aware of their mortality, they understand just how precious life really is, and are willing to take risks to go after what they want. Challenging stereotypes about older women, Still Doing It lets everyone know that sex and adventure do not need to end when you hit sixty (or seventy . . . or ninety!). In fact, the good stuff is often just beginning.

Book Tamar It s Still Your Coat

Download or read book Tamar It s Still Your Coat written by Marjorielyn R Campbell and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2007-09-26 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Never in the history of humanity, has the world been faced with so many broken lives than what we are currently experiencing today. Men and especially women who have been bruised by circumstances and events that inflicted deep wounds on their lives and destiny form the units that make up the nations. In this book, thoughtfully authored by Rev Marjorielyn R Campbell, one of the most painful stories of the Bible is used to address the crippling effects of a sexual attack on a woman by a person of trust in her life. It is one of those taboo subjects that is never talked about within the family, better left where it is and better swept under the carpet never to receive justice. However, the author has sensitively done exactly that - justice. What this book ministers to the reader is not just something that was learned from another book or concepts that the human mind put together but it is from something that was given by God and birthed from a life totally devoted to God. No matter how bruised the life is and regardless of what may have happened, the reader will never remain the same by the time the last page is read. Healing will spring from within to the many lives that have been afflicted by this subtle ploy of the enemy to keep the daughters of God bound. A rose is still a rose and at the scent of water it will bud again.

Catania returns with a collection of more unadulterated, compelling true-life stories that detail his own enlightening transformation from atheist to spiritualist. *Winner of 2nd Place (Runner-Up) in The San Francisco Book Festival 2023 (Spiritual/Religious) This is the follow up book to the multi-award-winning title, The Atheist and The Afterlife – An Autobiography. It is the second installment of The Awakening Series. Take a second look at spiritualism for the modern-day human. This exciting book is both practical and enlightening. It is an easy-to-use guide to life for anyone interested in spirituality and science in the 21st century. Just as in the first book, all the concepts, experiences and principles are taken from real life events. Catania, now a strong believer in the afterlife, searches for answers. A vigorous, intense, search is on to connect science and spirituality and find how they align. Motivated by a will to understand what is happening to himself, he embarks on a quest to fill in the blanks of what makes it so. Blind faith isn’t an option, as a former atheist, he continues to be his own biggest skeptic. Through training and studies, both formal and informal, he begins to piece together a puzzle, bringing himself closer to the acceptance of his newly found reality. Uncovering universal principles and laws, learning how to use them, he writes of them in a way, in which most anyone can recreate them to enrich their own lives. You’ll read about the four principles of ascension, the laws of attainment, how to use your higher consciousness to create and manifest. How to read the signs you are being given each day and how to decode and utilize them without fear or apprehension. Understand aspects of consciousness and the mind, including its multiple layers and parts that create a struggle within us, causing a constant battle for superiority. Learn to remove the self-struggle within, to be harmonious with your higher self. As a student of consciousness, life, death, and the afterlife, Catania writes of his own experiences with these concepts so you can view them from a practical perspective. Written with humility, humor, and sarcasm, each story is based on real life events that are sure to surprise and entertain you. The books in the "Awakening Series" by Limitless Publications, authored by Ray Catania, are not intended to be Religious in any way, nor do they support or denounce any forms of organized religion, overall. These books contain sensitive and adult subject matter, which may not be suitable for all ages and contain a list of triggers that you should review before reading.

Book Through It All I m Still Standing

Download or read book Through It All I m Still Standing written by Towanna Hogue and published by Towanna Hogue. This book was released on 2020-07-28 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through It All I’m Still Standing is a story about experiencing love, trials, tribulations, abuse, loss, strength, endurance, faith, triumphs, and deliverance. It’s about feeling like all hope is lost but remembering to have faith because there is a God that will cover you and see you through—remembering that he will make a way out of no way as long as you are patient and have faith. It might not be when you want it, but he is always on time. I share similar personal experiences of surviving several challenges, including marriage, divorce, cancer, loss of loved ones, and more. Through It All I’m Still Standing is a self-help book that aims to bring awareness to mental illnesses, such as depression, PTSD, anxiety, and narcissistic personality disorder. I also wanted to discuss the many forms of abuse that are sometimes minimized but are just as bad as any other form of abuse, such as emotional, verbal, and financial abuse. My hope is to help people in similar situations and their families to deal with the effects of the unfortunate phenomena. My goal is to banish the misconceptions of mental health and to overcome the stigma of it as well as seeking the help needed. This book is designed to give hope from the first sight, with the use of the yellow lotus flower on the book cover symbolizing personal growth. The yellow lotus is an analogy of how it grows in deep mud, far away from the sun, but eventually reaches the light and becomes the most beautiful flower ever. Never allow anyone to ever make you feel less than. Always know your worth and practice more self-love. Through It All I’m Still Standing, and you will too!

Book I ve Still Got It I Just Can t Remember Where I Put It

Download or read book I ve Still Got It I Just Can t Remember Where I Put It written by Jenna McCarthy and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2014-07-01 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to Middle Age! Please check your functioning internal thermostat and razor-sharp memory at the door and pour yourself a nice, stiff drink... Jenna McCarthy might be forty-something, but she doesn’t feel forty-something. She certainly doesn’t look forty-something. (Actually she does, but she’s in denial so maybe don’t mention it?) And between complaining about how tired she is, trying to remember what she came in here for and wondering whether she drinks too much, she does not have time for a crisis. She has, however, had time to crack the mysterious midlife code. She’s figured out how to tame her muffin top, keep the spark in her marriage and probably not die a fiery hoarder’s death. She’s learned the trick to looking ten years younger and the secret to feeling ten times happier (and it only cost $14.99 plus shipping and handling). And she’s discovered the one thing she will need to do for the rest of ever if she’s going to continue to refuse to “dress her age.” Tackling everything from cosmetic surgery and financial panic to skinny jeans and the meaning of life, I’ve Still Got It... is a middle age manifesto filled with hilarious misadventures, humiliating confessions and occasional (hot) flashes of genius.

Book Hate it or Love it Believe it or Not I m Still Tellin the Truth

Download or read book Hate it or Love it Believe it or Not I m Still Tellin the Truth written by Kyron Thomas and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2022-08-01 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is inspired by an incident that occurred between Kyron and a Cincinnati police officer who shot Kyron for trying to run from a dice game. Kyron served eight and a half years behind the incident. Before prison, Kyron worked a nine-to-five and hustled on the side. Kyron was very well-respected in the neighborhood. He was very much family-oriented but was also a ladies' man. After being released from prison, Kyron tried to walk a straight path, but there were roadblocks everywhere he turned. He couldn't get a job, couldn't get in school, and the girl he was with didn't want him because he didn't want to live the street life, so he eventually fell victim to circumstances and started selling drugs. He fell in love with a hood rat and tried to treat her good, but she dogged him. One of the friends he met in prison set him up. He served a year. One month after being released, Kyron was hooked up with a job. Once again, he was tryin' to live legit, and temptation was biting at him. The place he worked at was infested with all kinds of drug abusers, and at that time, one of his friends was on top in the coke game and he kept offering Kyron some cocaine. Kyron eventually took it and again ended up in jail, facing twenty to life because a close friend made a statement to the feds. Kyron ended up serving fifteen months in federal custody. After being released once again, he couldn't find a job, so he went back to the crack game. He went to lots of different events, some you may hate, some you may love, but believe them or not, he's still telling the truth.

Book But Still it Turns

Download or read book But Still it Turns written by RaMell Ross and published by MACK BOOKS. This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Paul Graham curates a subtle thesis and revitalising manifesto for photography. The dynamic and diverse work gathered here advocates an unashamed, but not uncomplicated, dedication to the brilliant tangle of reality. Without being tempted by the artifice of the studio or the restrictive demands of conventional documentary, these artists tell open-ended stories that shift, warp, and branch, attuned unfailingly to life-as-it-is. Included are Gregory Halpern's Californian waking dream ZZYZX; Vanessa Winship's peripatetic exercise in empathy she dances on Jackson; the human assemblages of Curran Hatleberg's Lost Coast; Stanley Wolukau-Wanambwa's rich and multitudinous One Wall a Web; the mortality-tinged America of Richard Choi's What Remains; RaMell Ross' visionary documentary work South County; the collaborative project Index G by Emanuele Bruti & Piergiorgio Casotti; and Kristine Potter's disorientating exploration of the American landscape and masculinity in Manifest. All these works are brought together in harmony and enlightening dissonance, as Graham teases out a new photographic form"--Publisher's description.

Book excerpt: Praised as “a work of wild, vaulting ambition and achievement” by Entertainment Weekly, Jamie O’Neill’s first novel invites comparison to such literary greats as James Joyce, Samuel Beckett and Charles Dickens. Jim Mack is a naïve young scholar and the son of a foolish, aspiring shopkeeper. Doyler Doyle is the rough-diamond son—revolutionary and blasphemous—of Mr. Mack’s old army pal. Out at the Forty Foot, that great jut of rock where gentlemen bathe in the nude, the two boys make a pact: Doyler will teach Jim to swim, and in a year, on Easter of 1916, they will swim to the distant beacon of Muglins Rock and claim that island for themselves. All the while Mr. Mack, who has grand plans for a corner shop empire, remains unaware of the depth of the boys’ burgeoning friendship and of the changing landscape of a nation. Set during the year preceding the Easter Uprising of 1916—Ireland’s brave but fractured revolt against British rule—At Swim, Two Boys is a tender, tragic love story and a brilliant depiction of people caught in the tide of history. Powerful and artful, and ten years in the writing, it is a masterwork from Jamie O’Neill.
