Excerpt: ...of granite we find the sobbing tide of sorrow flow fierce and strong and terrible when friend is tornfor ever from 'of her husband Abradatus, shows us how the crystalline waters of supreme sorrow for the loss of those we love, flow through all the channels of human nature alike. Panthea could have deserted her husband for any life she pleased to choose, but_the crown and royal chariot, the glories ancient royalty could not weaken the bond of love that bound her to the heart of the noble Abradatus. She had loved him from the moment her eyes first mirrored his martial form, and she clung to him ever afterwards with an affection ever mcreasing and ever supreme. When she became the captive of Cyrus, the lung asked her where her home was, and she told him in the heart of her husband. Xljnophon tolls us that King Cyrus bemg struck with Panthea/s matchless devotedness, had her most honourably restored to Abradatus. But her first thought on her return to her husband was to move him to show his gratitude to Cyrus for the great honour and kindness shown them, and so she induced him to enter the king's army and to defend him even at the expense of his life. As he Was about leaving for the scene of battle She brought' him ornaments for his armour that she had secretly prepared, she brought too, the helmet, the breastPlate and the greaves, and thus addressed him, "Although I care more for you than for my own soul, I certainly would rather choose to be buried jointly with You while you approve yourself a brave man, than to live dishonoured with you in dlshfinour; so much do I think you and mfielf worthy of the noblest things, and if ever there was a woman that regarded her husband more than her own M11111 am that woman...".

  • Pages : 438 pages

Download or read book Stepping Stones written by Stephen A. Drury and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many people know more about the planets Venus and Mars than they do about our home planet, Earth. Unique in our solar system, and so far as we know in the Universe itself, the Earth has been evolving for the past five billion years, and is the result of the dynamic interplay of astronomical, physical, and chemical forces ranging from the vast to the barely perceptible. The evolution of the Earth has never been predictable. Life has come very close to being extinguished many times. After each such crisis, the survivors and their genes have diversified and grown in number to exploit allopportunities. Without such traumas it is hardly likely that evolution's pace could have reached its present advanced level; that of conscious life capable of changing the world, contemplating it, and in doing so changing itself at geologically stupendous rates. In Stepping Stones, Stephen Druryexplores how such a seemingly fragile world could have been formed and developed. Looking at the astonishing leaps, and near catastrophes that have occurred along the way, intermingled with inexorable but slow change, the book interweaves the evidence from geology, physics, biology, and chemistry,to tell an extraordinary story of the Earth's evolution spanning nearly five billion years.

Book A Study of MLFMA for Large scale Scattering Problems

Download or read book A Study of MLFMA for Large scale Scattering Problems written by Michael Larkin Hastriter and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research is centered in computational electromagnetics with a focus on solving large-scale problems accurately in a timely fashion using first principle physics. Error control of the translation operator in 3-D is shown. A parallel implementation of the multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA) was studied as far as parallel efficiency and scaling. The large-scale scattering program (LSSP), based on the ScaleME library, was used to solve ultra-large-scale problems including a 200(lambda) sphere with 20 million unknowns. As these large-scale problems were solved, techniques were developed to accurately estimate the memory requirements. Careful memory management is needed in order to solve these massive problems. The study of MLFMA in large-scale problems revealed significant errors that stemmed from inconsistencie s in constants used- by different parts of the algorithm. These were fixed to produce the most accurate data possible for large-scale surface scattering problems. Data was calculated on a missile-like target using both high frequency methods and MLFMA. This data was compared and analyzed to determine possible strategies to increase data acquisition speed and accuracy through multiple computation method hybridization.

Download or read book Why You written by Ron Ezinga and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2019-05-23 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While working with Zig Ziglar, the author observed how his positive, successful living message not only helped people improve their lifestyles, it also led many to recognize their spiritual needs. Similarly, "Why You?" will lead readers to discover that the Bible overflows with simple, common-sense teaching on how to live successfully, even in today’s chaotic world. For example, what Proverbs 1:3 says about the proverbs themselves can be applied to the whole Bible: “Their purpose is to teach people how to live disciplined and successful lives.” Supporting that powerful statement, Ephesians 2:10 expresses the foundational principle of this book. It says, “We are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” In summary, readers will learn the “good things” which give life purpose; how to develop successful life skills; and how to deal with life’s issues. The title of the book asks the question: "Why You?" The subtitle answers it: "You Are God’s Masterpiece, Designed to Succeed in His World!" You can live with purpose as God’s masterpiece!

Book The Evolution of a Community

Download or read book The Evolution of a Community written by Peter Willmott and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-05-26 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In earlier studies, Peter Willmott and other investigators had documented the social problems of new housing estates – the loneliness, the tensions, the disruption of family and neighbourhood ties. But how far are such troubles transitory? What kind of life would develop in communities like these when time had rubbed off the newness? Originally published in 1963, in search of an answer, Peter Willmott went to Dagenham in Essex, where forty years before the London County Council began to build a giant estate to rehouse people from the East End of London. His study – of a new estate that had now become an old one – throws light on the long-term effects of this kind of migration. He found at Dagenham, most strikingly, that a way of life very similar to a ‘traditional’ working-class community had grown up. In this book he discusses the similarities and differences, and shows the influences which had worked for and against this development. After a sketch of the estate’s history, he traces the relationships of the people of Dagenham with relatives, friends and neighbours, and then examines their attitudes to each other, to politics and to social class. His conclusions were not only relevant to housing and town planning policy, but provided insight into the meaning of social class in contemporary Britain at the time.
