Book The Lost Art of Steam Heating

Download or read book The Lost Art of Steam Heating written by Dan Holohan and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This was my first book and a true labor of love. I spent decades studying steam and the work of Dead Men, in both old buildings and on library shelves. I traveled the country, haunting used-book stores, looking for engineering books that held the answers to questions that nagged at me. I was obsessed with this topic, and when I finally sat to write, I poured all that I had learned into this book, and as I wrote, I tried my best to make the words sound good to you - like we were together and having a conversation. I wanted you to know what I know and I wanted you to be able to do what I can do when it comes to old steam systems. This book arrived in 1992 and has since gone though dozens of printings. We've sold it in every state as well as in foreign countries. Steam heat is everywhere there are old buildings, so why shouldn't you be the one with the answers? Dan Holohan

Book Pumping Away and Other Really Cool Piping Options for Hydronic Systems

Download or read book Pumping Away and Other Really Cool Piping Options for Hydronic Systems written by Dan Holohan and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I wrote this book to describe the beautiful workings of hydronic heating systems and I tried to use words that made the subject spring to life in a visual way. It's been one of my best-selling books for years. I kept the drawings simple. Even if you've never worked with hydronics before, you'll be able to follow these drawings. The first part deals with boiler-room piping and explains how you can put the discoveries of the late, great Gil Carlson to work for you. If you pipe Gil's way, you'll save time, money and never again have to bleed radiators. Thousands of installers have reported great success by following the principles in the first part of this book. I wish I could take credit but the genius was Gil Carlson's. I just did my best to tell his story in plain English. The second half of the book takes the "Pumping Away" boiler-room piping design and applies it to a delicious menu of piping options. This is a book that you'll refer to again and again. It will save you time and money. And I guarantee that. - Dan Holohan

Book Materials for Ultra Supercritical and Advanced Ultra Supercritical Power Plants

Download or read book Materials for Ultra Supercritical and Advanced Ultra Supercritical Power Plants written by Augusto Di Gianfrancesco and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2016-09-01 with total page 900 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Materials for Ultra-Supercritical and Advanced Ultra-Supercritical Power Plants provides researchers in academia and industry with an essential overview of the stronger high-temperature materials required for key process components, such as membrane wall tubes, high-pressure steam piping and headers, superheater tubes, forged rotors, cast components, and bolting and blading for steam turbines in USC power plants. Advanced materials for future advanced ultra-supercritical power plants, such as superalloys, new martensitic and austenitic steels, are also addressed. Chapters on international research directions complete the volume. The transition from conventional subcritical to supercritical thermal power plants greatly increased power generation efficiency. Now the introductions of the ultra-supercritical (USC) and, in the near future, advanced ultra-supercritical (A-USC) designs are further efforts to reduce fossil fuel consumption in power plants and the associated carbon dioxide emissions. The higher operating temperatures and pressures found in these new plant types, however, necessitate the use of advanced materials. Provides researchers in academia and industry with an authoritative and systematic overview of the stronger high-temperature materials required for both ultra-supercritical and advanced ultra-supercritical power plants Covers materials for critical components in ultra-supercritical power plants, such as boilers, rotors, and turbine blades Addresses advanced materials for future advanced ultra-supercritical power plants, such as superalloys, new martensitic and austenitic steels Includes chapters on technologies for welding technologies

Delivers a practical guide to pipe supports, structures and hangers available in one go-to source Includes information on stress analysis basics, quick checks, pipe sizing and pressure drop Ensures compliance with the latest piping and plant layout codes and complies with worldwide risk management legislation and HSE Focuses on each piece of equipment, such as pumps, towers, underground piping, pipe sizes and supports Covers piping stress analysis and the daily needed calculations to use on the job

Book Steam Piping

Download or read book Steam Piping written by A. Langstaff Johnston and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-13 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Steam Piping: Its Economical Design and Correct Layout Mr. Johnston believes, as a deduction from his own professional observation and experience, that in the majority of industrial plants the steam-piping system has received insufficient attention, and that as a result wastes of both installation investment and operating cost are prevalent. In this volume, consolidated and revised from a series of articles published in the engineering magazine in 1915, he analyzes the factors governing the flow of steam in pipes, and presents a group of curves for use in solving the problems of practical installation and determining the most economical size of pipe to select for any given set of conditions. Book PIPING ENGINEERING

Download or read book PIPING ENGINEERING written by Prabhu TL and published by NestFame Creations Pvt Ltd.. This book was released on with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Piping Engineering Book is one-of-a-kind. This book is structured to raise the level of expertise in piping design and to improve the competitiveness in the global markets. This course provides various piping system designs, development skills and knowledge of current trends of plant layout. The students are given case studies to develop their professional approach. Piping Engineering is a specialized discipline of Mechanical Engineering which covers the design of piping and layout of equipment's and process units in chemical, petrochemical or hydrocarbon facilities. Piping Engineers are responsible for the layout of overall plant facilities, the location of equipment's and process units in the plot and the design of the connected piping as per the applicable codes and standards to ensure safe operation of the facilities for the design life. Piping can be defined as an assembly of piping components used to convey or distribute process fluid from one item of equipment to another in a process plant. The piping components that form a part of this assembly are pipes, fittings, flanges, valves, piping specials, bolts and gaskets. This definition also includes pipe-supporting elements such as pipe shoes but does not include support structures such as pipe racks, pipe sleepers and foundations. As per ASME B31.3, the piping designer is responsible to the owner for assurance that the engineering design of the piping complies with the requirements of this code and any additonal requirements established by the owner. Piping Engineering is a very important aspect of plant facility design and extends way beyond designing piping as per ASME Codes. There are various ASME codes used for piping. Most of the plant facilities in the petrochemical and hydrocarbon industry will use ASME B31.3 code for design of process piping. Every industrial plant has numerous piping systems that must function reliably and safely. Piping systems are often easy to ignore or take lightly. However, industry around the world continuously experiences pipe failures, sometimes with catastrophic results. Plant personnel expect piping systems that operate safely, and plant owners need piping systems that are reliable. This course introduces the engineers, to the fundamental considerations, the evaluation criteria and the primary solutions in the design of piping systems. The types of common failure modes are described, with the general approaches to determining if a piping system design is adequate for operation. Pipe support types are described, and their normal applications. This is not a pipe stress analysis course, but is much broader in context and only briefly introduces pipe stress analysis. This book is intended for those who interface with piping design, maintenance and operation, and those who may be starting to work in piping engineering.
