Book excerpt: LOVE IS PRICELESS in Stealing Taffy by New York Times bestselling author Susan Donovan. Ten weeks in a swanky Arizona rehab center and Tanyalee Newberry, aka Taffy, is ready to give up everything that isn’t good for her—her forgery habit, taking (i.e., stealing) things that don’t belong to her, and, of course, men. But when her flight home gets rerouted, she finds herself in a hotel room with her smoking-hot travel companion. One night together is all it should have been. But passion is oh-so sweet... Special Agent Dante Cabrera has been duped at his own love-’em-and-leave-’em game by this so-called Taffy. To forget she ever existed, Dante buries himself in his work...until a case leads him to North Carolina and, impossibly, right back to her. He has no business messing around with this felonious femme fatale, especially one who could be in more danger than she thinks. But Dante also knows there’s more to her than great looks and hot nights—a soul-searching woman who wants amend her past sins. Is he ready to take their desire to the next level...and steal Taffy’s heart? “A funny, sizzling romantic adventure that readers [will] love.” —RT Book Reviews on I Want Candy

Book excerpt: Hitherto we have spoken only of the mystic path; and we have kept particularly to the practical exoteric side of it. Such difficulties as we have mentioned have been purely natural obstacles. For example, the great question of the surrender of the self, which bulks so largely in most mystical treatises, has not been referred to at all. We have said only what a man must do; we have not considered at ill what that doing may involve. The rebellion of the will against the terrible discipline of meditation has not been discussed; one may now devote a few words to it.

Book excerpt: This book is the introduction, the foundation upon which all further magical work will be based. Its simplicity, clarity and depth is without equal occult literature. The First part of Book Four deals with Yoga in a very sound and methodical manner, stripping it of the mysterious and glitter. Soberly, Crowley describes each step as a technique of mental and/or physical discipline, ultimately resulting in complete control of the will and with this, control of the physical and mental body. Crowley speaks with authority as he is one of the few writers on the subject of Yoga and Magick who has attained Dhyana and Conversation with his Holy Guardian Angel through discipline and ritual practice. The second part of Book Four is an encyclopedia of magical symbolism, the working tools in practical magick. All of the paraphernalia employed in ritual magick are carefully explained in both psychological and mystical terms. The Wand is the will of man, his wisdom, his word, the Cup is man's understanding, the vehicle of grace; the Sword is reason, the analytical faculty of man; and the Pantacle is man's body, the temple of the Holy Ghost. All phenomena are sacraments. Every fact must enter into the Pantacle. It is the great storehouse from which the Magician draws. The laws and truths of the occult world which are presented here give the student a sound working knowledge and set him firmly on the path. Book Four is a concise, direct and honest presentation.

Book Magick in Theory and Practice

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: EXISTENCE, as we know it, is full of sorrow. To mention only one minor point: every man is a condemned criminal, only he does not know the date of his execution. This is unpleasant for every man. Consequently every man does everything possible to postpone the date, and would sacrifice anything that he has if he could reverse the sentence. Practically all religions and all philosophies have started thus crudely, by promising their adherents some such reward as immortality. No religion has failed hitherto by not promising enough; the present breaking up of all religions is due to the fact that people have asked to see the securities. Men have even renounced the important material advantages which a well-organized religion may confer upon a State, rather than acquiesce in fraud or falsehood, or even in any system which, if not proved guilty, is at least unable to demonstrate its innocence. Being more or less bankrupt, the best thing that we can do is to attack the problem afresh without preconceived ideas. Let us begin by doubting every statement. Let us find a way of subjecting every statement to the test of experiment. Is there any truth at all in the claims of various religions? Let us examine the question. Our original difficulty will be due to the enormous wealth of our material. To enter into a critical examination of all systems would be an unending task; the cloud of witnesses is too great. Now each religion is equally positive; and each demands faith. This we refuse in the absence of positive proof. But we may usefully inquire whether there is not any one thing upon which all religions have agreed: for, if so, it seems possible that it may be worthy of really thorough consideration. It is certainly not to be found in dogma. Even so simple an idea as that of a supreme and eternal being is denied by a third of the human race. Legends of miracle are perhaps universal, but these, in the absence of demonstrative proof, are repugnant to common sense. But what of the origin of religions? How is it that unproved assertion has so frequently compelled the assent of all classes of mankind? Is not this a miracle? There is, however, one form of miracle which certainly happens, the influence of the genius. There is no known analogy in Nature. One cannot even think of a "super-dog" transforming the world of dogs, whereas in the history of mankind this happens with regularity and frequency. Now here are three "super-men," all at loggerheads. What is there in common between Christ, Buddha, and Mohammed?

Book The Complete Duffy Series

Download or read book The Complete Duffy Series written by Dan Kavanagh and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2018-06-12 with total page 988 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seedy, sly London private detective Nick Duffy is on the case in a series that’s “exciting, funny and refreshingly nasty” (Martin Amis). Nick Duffy was a copper on the vice squad until malicious rumors about his own sex life ripped through the force. Now he’s in private security. No stranger to London’s seedier offerings, Duffy is just the right man for cases that are a little morally slippery—in a sharp-witted series that has “the snap and crackle of Raymond Chandler” (The Washington Post Book World). In these four novels, “it is the Nabokovian blend of funny and sinister, the sense of tongue in scarred cheek, that lingers” (The Sunday Times). Duffy: Hired by a disreputable businessman who’s being blackmailed by one of the city’s most dangerous crime lords, Duffy must navigate Soho’s underworld of prostitutes, porn moguls, and hoods. “One of the most colourful and entertaining English thrillers.” —London Evening Standard Fiddle City: The freight thieves of Heathrow Airport have a problem: Someone has been pilfering more than his share. These Heathrow hoods need a private detective to find out who’s been robbing them—and down-and-out Duffy takes the case. “The characterization is exact, the action gripping, and the writing pleasantly ironic.” —The Times (London) Putting the Boot In: Every football team expects injuries, but Third Division Athletic seems to be exceptionally unlucky. The manager hires Duffy to find out who’s intentionally kicking the team while it’s down, and soon he’s taking on everyone from diehard fans to hard-core skinheads. “Kavanagh is as beady-eyed and hilarious as ever, Duffy a disgraceful chuckle and more.” —The Observer Going to the Dogs: As the security consultant who installed a dodgy burglar alarm, Duffy is called to a country manor to find out who defenestrated the owner’s dog. But he arrives to find Braunscombe Hall full of eccentric guests, aka suspects. “In Going to the Dogs, author Dan Kavanagh does it with verve and humor.” —Newsday

Welcome to Too Much, Texas, where the women are strong-willed and the men are handsome yet shiftless. Ever since Mary Dell Templeton and her twin sister Lydia Dale were children, their Aunt Velvet has warned them away from local boys. But it's well known that the females in Mary Dell's family have two traits in common—superior sewing skills and a fatal weakness for men. While Lydia Dale grows up petite and pretty, Mary Dell just keeps growing. Tall, smart, and sassy, she is determined to one day turn her love of sewing into a business. Meanwhile, she'll settle for raising babies with her new husband, Donny. But that dream proves elusive too, until finally, Mary Dell gets the son she always wanted—a child as different as he is wonderful. And as Mary Dell is forced to reconsider what truly matters in her family and her marriage, she begins to piece together a life that, like the colorful quilts she creates, will prove vibrant, rich, and absolutely unforgettable . . . “Powerful, inspiring, and uplifting!” —#1 New York Times–bestselling author Robyn Carr
