Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A lot of guys my age wanted to be pimps when we grew up in the hood. It was basically part of the street culture in our neighborhood. We looked up to drug dealers and pimps because they were basically the only guys who had a pocket full of money to flash to females. And they had all of the beautiful women chasing after them. Those were basically the only options that looked good to us growing up around poverty. Because most of our parents were just barely making it at their low paying jobs. So, we looked up to the hustlers. They already knew how to handle themselves navigating the streets. And we were very eager to follow in their footsteps when we could.

Download or read book Shula The Coach of the NFL s Greatest Generation written by Mark Ribowsky and published by Liveright Publishing. This book was released on 2019-08-27 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Publishers Weekly Holiday Gift Guide Selection Spanning seven decades, the notorious loss of Super Bowl III, and an historic undefeated season with the Dolphins, Shula is the definitive biography of a coaching legend. Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1997, Don Shula remains the winningest coach of all time with 347 career victories and the only undefeated season in NFL history. But before he became the architect of the Dolphins dynasty, Shula was a hardworking kid selling fish on the banks of Lake Erie, the eldest of six children born during the Depression to Hungarian immigrant parents. As acclaimed sports biographer Mark Ribowsky shows, Shula met serious resistance at home when he asked to play high school football, but when his parents finally relented, they discovered that their son, though perhaps short on the physical gifts of the truly blessed, had an unmatched mind for the game’s strategy and a stomach for its brutality. With rugged determination, the jut-jawed Shula started as a defensive back in the 1950s, later beginning his thirty-two-year coaching career as the then-youngest coach ever with the Baltimore Colts. The Colts had several successful years, but Shula never quite recovered from the historic loss to the upstart New York Jets in Super Bowl III, and when a lucrative job opened in Miami, he took his talents to South Beach, where he led the Dolphins to the first perfect season in NFL history. Tracing Shula’s singular rise from his blue-collar origins to his glory days in the Miami heat, Ribowsky reveals a man of grit and charisma who never lost sight of a simple creed: “All I’ve ever done is roll up my sleeves, figure out what to do, and start doing it.”

How do you become secluded in Hollywood you ask? Trott finds a way, just as he does with everything in life. Download or read book The Awakening Word written by Robert W Mitchell and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-11-23 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you being called to the spiritual path? If so, are you doing anything about it? I am reminded of the concept; faith without works is dead. If we are being called to find out wonderful things about ourselves, God and the universe, we have to do something about it. Stepping onto a spiritual path is a way. Paths are all about doing. In this book you will find many encouraging words about different paths and the rewards and challenges that come with them. You will find that paths do not have to be organized or supervised, but they must be approached with consciousness and intent and contribute to our lives, and the life of the world. This book is one of my many paths within my one journey. My goal here is to, in some way, touch those who have not yet found a path or those who may be looking but do not know what they are looking for - those who may be wondering about life and God as I was, and still do. If you are at a place and time in your life where you are wondering or feel as though something is missing, this book may be for you. It is written for the "beginners mind." The short easy to read essays, poems and inspiring quotes are meant to send your mind off into wonderful directions, and your life on amazing paths that allow you to grow and blossom, and be the divine person you were meant to be. The different chapters address life and how we live it; our humanness as well as our divine nature. Some of the essays are about the rules of life, life as a game or a gamble, getting ready for our paths and stepping on to them.
Download or read book Debunking the Myth of Job Fit in Higher Education and Student Affairs written by Brian J. Reece and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-07-03 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Co-published with This groundbreaking book examines a concept that has gone unexamined for too long: The concept of “job fit” in the student affairs profession. Fit is a term used by nearly everyone in student affairs throughout the hiring process, from search committees and hiring managers to supervisors and HR professionals. This book opens a conversation about the use of “job fit” as a tool for exclusion that needs to be critically investigated from multiple standpoints. This edited collection brings together a number of voices to look at the issues involved through various lenses to explore the ways policies, procedures, environments, and cultural norms provide inequitable job search experiences for individuals from various marginalized groups. These include looking at the legal aspects, employer definitions, communication barriers, as well as scholarly personal narratives looking at the concept from the perspective of class, race, gender and sexual orientation.Emerging from the Commission for Social Justice of ACPA, the personal narratives and critical explorations in this book are an attempt to provide graduate students and professionals with a resource that is relevant to the job search in an increasingly competitive job market, while taking into account the complex realities of their identities. The normative assumptions of “fit” are analyzed by the authors to make visible the barriers those assumptions create for those with non-dominant identities. The student affairs profession strives for inclusion and acceptance as a core value, and an essential competency. The profession has made progress in the way it serves students, but there is a disconnect between the conversation about students and the way those same values play out in the treatment of practitioners and scholars in the field. This book aims to help job seekers looking to evaluate fit in their current and possible future positions, as well as hiring managers who face challenges in creating equitable hiring processes.Challenging the norms and rhetoric about job fit in student affairs means that scholars and practitioners alike must be able to incorporate this topic explicitly into various aspects of the profession.

Maybe you didn’t know how your co-workers would respond when you told them you were going to Uganda on a two-week mission trip. We have all stepped out on faith one time or another, in both big and small ways. But have you ever wondered why? What causes us to speak up when there is silence, what makes us finally put the for-sale sign in our front yard? What if we could pinpoint that moment in time, and figure out what moves people to act? Act or React will take us on a journey of discovery to find out how we go from standing on the sidelines to actually getting inthe game of life and playing with purpose. Author Caz McCaslin, founder and president of Upward Sports, shares his own story to help readers examine the ongoing process which moves us from thinking about doing something to actually doing something.
