Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminary is dangerous. Really dangerous. The hard truth is that many seminarians enter pastoral ministry feeling drained, disillusioned, and dissatisfied. But the problem isn't with the faculty or the material. Rather, the most perilous danger to the soul of the pastor-in-training is the sin residing deep within his own heart. Drawing on their years of pastoral ministry and seminary experience, David Mathis and Jonathan Parnell take a refreshingly honest look at this oft-neglected—yet all too common—experience, offering real-world advice for students eager to survive seminary with their faith intact. In seven short but challenging chapters, the authors remind readers of the foundational role of the gospel in the life of ministry, equipping them with the keys to grow in their faith while making the most of their education.

Book Unseen

  • Author : Sara Hagerty
  • Publisher : Zondervan
  • Release : 2017-08-29
  • ISBN : 0310339987
  • Pages : 240 pages

Download or read book Unseen written by Sara Hagerty and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2017-08-29 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do we find contentment in God when we feel so hidden? Sara Hagerty unfolds the truths found in the biblical story of Mary of Bethany to discover the scandalous love of God and explore the spiritual richness of being hidden in him. Every heart longs to be seen and understood. Yet most of our lives is unwitnessed. We spend our days working, driving, parenting. We sometimes spend whole seasons feeling unnoticed and unappreciated. In Unseen, Sara Hagerty suggests that this is exactly what God intended. He is the only One who truly knows us. He is the only One who understands the value of the unseen in our lives. When this truth seeps into our souls, we realize that only when we hide ourselves in God can we give ourselves to others in true freedom--and know the joy of a deeper relationship with the God who sees us. Our culture applauds what we can produce, what we can show, what we can upload to social media. Only when we give all of ourselves to God--unedited, abandoned, apparently wasteful in its lack of productivity--can we live out who God created us to be. As Hagerty writes, "Maybe my seemingly unproductive, looking-up-at-Him life produces awe among the angels." Through an eloquent exploration of both personal and biblical story, Hagerty calls us to offer every unseen minute of our lives to God. God is in the secret places of our lives that no one else witnesses. But we've not been relegated to these places. We've been invited. We may be "wasting" ourselves in a hidden corner today: The cubicle on the fourth floor. The hospital bedside of an elderly parent. The laundry room. But these are the places God uses to meet us with a radical love. These are the places that produce the kind of unhinged love in us that gives everything at His feet, whether or not anyone else ever proclaims our name, whether or not anyone else ever sees. God's invitation is not just for a season or a day. It is the question of our lives: "When no one else applauds you, when it makes no sense, when you see no results--will you waste your love on Me?"

Book Stay Planted in the House of God

Download or read book Stay Planted in the House of God written by Bishop Lovell Chandler Sr. and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2023-02-27 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The day of Christ’s return is at hand. It is so vital that we be planted in the house of God at the return of Christ for His church. We can not be hopping from church to church, ministry to ministry, exercising a “Kangaroo Spirit” never being rooted or grounded in Christ and The Word. We must not allow past or present hurts, disappointments, rejections, lack of fellowship and other things to pull us out of The House of God causing us to be lost. In the parable found in Luke 15(KJV) all three were lost: the sheep, the coin & the son. All needed to be found, just as the sheep were lost in the field, the coin was lost in the house and the son was lost in the world. We can also be lost in the field, house & world. We must stay planted in the house of God and become mature saints, producing fruit for the Master’s use. This will cause others to enter into the House of God, develop a personal relationship with Him, the Holy Spirit and His son Jesus Christ. This will allow the church to be edified and God to be glorified. We pray that this spiritual guide book will be a blessing and comfort to all that read it. We pray that it will encourage many in the body of Christ to mature, produce the fruit of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:22- 23(KJV) and that others will be ready for the return of Christ, for He is coming in an hour we think not. Stay planted in the House of God!

Book Get Lit Stay Lit Spread It

Download or read book Get Lit Stay Lit Spread It written by Kelly K and published by . This book was released on 2020-03-03 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you on fire for Jesus like you want to be? Have you ever experienced the Christian "burn out"? The theory of the "Fire Triangle" states that you need three things to keep a fire burning; heat, fuel, and oxygen. Remove any one of these, and the fire will go out. The same can be said of your fire for God!We have an encounter with God, we get on fire, then we burn out. Sadly, this is the story of many believers lives. But this is not the life Jesus called us to live. Matthew 5 tells us in three simple steps, exactly what our "job" as followers of Christ is supposed to look like. 1. Get Lit. 2. Stay Lit. 3. Spread It!The key to not burning out lies in understanding what our heat, fuel and oxygen are. Once we understand these, and keep them active in our daily lives, our fire will NEVER burn out. And that is what Jesus intended for us all along when He said, "You are the light of the world, like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden."This book will teach you how easy it is to truly get on fire for God and stay on fire. By applying the theory of the "fire triangle," looking at stories from the Bible, and personal testimonies, you will be inspired to become a wild fire for Jesus by getting lit, staying lit, and spreading it!

Book excerpt: What is God like? Can I trust Him? Does He know me and can He help me tackle the challenges I face? Most people know a little something about God, but their knowledge of who He is and how He works stops just past the point of an initial introduction. Why is it so important to know the One who knows all about you? The answer is simple: when you come to a point where you understand His ways, your life takes on new meaning. You stop looking at old problems and feeling defeat, fear, and anxiety. Suddenly, you realize that the Person who gave you life has set an amazing course for you to follow. In Step with God offers simple, clear teaching that encourages and challenges you to approach life and its decisions—both big and small—by first knowing and considering God’s character. “The nearer I draw to the Lord,” writes Dr. Stanley, “the more I will know about Him—His love for me and His good plans and desires for my life. Plus, the more intimate I become with God, the better I understand His way, and this understanding leads to a deeper longing to know God better. I learn how to discern His will for my life and the situations I encounter.”

Book excerpt: The ritual complexes of the Ehing, a farming people of southern Senegal, embody an elaborate set of prohibitions on social behavior and prescribe the general rules of Ehing social organization. Power is distributed and maintained in Ehing culture by the concept of Odieng ("hatchet"), which as a spirit acts upon human beings much as an ax does upon a tree, falling from above to punish its victims for transgression. Marc Schloss's ethnography of the Ehing is a study of the meaning of Odieng's power, explaining why its rules are so essential to the Ehing way of life.

Book excerpt: Profound reflections on the cross that help you to meditate on and marvel at the sacrificial love of Jesus. This book can be used as a devotional, especially during Lent and Easter. This book will help you to pause and marvel at Jesus, whose now-glorified wounds are a sign of his unfailing love and the decisive victory that he has won: “He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5) This book can be used as a devotional. The chapters on Holy Week make it especially helpful during the Lent season and at Easter.
