Download or read book The Funding of Political Parties in Britain written by Keith D. Ewing and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1987-05-21 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study of the way in which political parties are funded examines in detail the corporate funding of the Conservative Party and trade union funding of the Labour Party. In so doing the author considers the legal implications of this activity. The election expenditures of the parties come under scrutiny, as does the role of the state in contributing to their financial well-being. The concluding chapters consider arguments for more extensive public funding of the political parties - as proposed by both the Houghton Committee in 1976 and the Hansard Society in 1981. In considering this issue the author draws heavily on Swedish experience, and throughout the book reference is made, where appropriate, to developments in other jurisdictions, including the United States, Canada and West Germany. This important subject is addressed from a legal perspective, though the book is written in a clear and forthright style accessible to lawyers and non-lawyers alike.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second of two Commission reports which examine options for reform of the law relating to criminal liability for encouraging or assisting another person to commit an offence (the previous report 'Inchoate liability for assisting and encouraging crime' was published in July 2006 as Cm. 6878 (Law Com. no. 300, ISBN 9780101687829). This report focuses on the law of secondary liability and examines the problems with the law as it currently stands; the differences between inchoate liability and secondary liability; recommendations to introduce statutory schemes of secondary liability and of innocent agency and a new offence of causing the commission of a no fault offence; defences and exemptions; and extra-territorial jurisdiction. It includes the text of two draft bills: Participating in Crime Bill and Participating in Crime (Jurisdiction, Procedure and Consequential Provisions) Bill. Taken together, the recommendations contained in both reports seek to establish a system whereby inchoate and secondary liability will support and supplement each other in a way that is rational and fair.
