Download or read book Agriculture and a Changing Environment in Northeastern India written by Sumi Krishna and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2020-11-29 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: India’s northeastern region, forged by a unique geological history and peopled by several waves of migration, is extraordinarily complex. Farming systems in the hills and the riverine plains are embedded in a heterogeneous environment, comprising forests, wetlands and fields, shaped over centuries by nature and people. Today, the environment and economy are undergoing rapid transformation, affecting peoples’ lives, livelihoods and methods of food production. The essays in this volume bring a multi-disciplinary perspective to critical aspects of the process of agricultural change, examine the gender dimensions of agriculture, and explore initiatives for sustainable livelihood and ecological conservation. Part I analyses the impact of policies and people’s own aspirations on the closely-intertwined ecology and economy of the region. Part II discusses the gender dynamics of farming, forestry and biodiversity in a socio-cultural context where women are primarily responsible for food production. Part III highlights some alternative farming interventions and community-based efforts for environmental conservation, sustainable resource management and improved livelihoods. This book will be useful to scholars and students of agriculture, economics, development, environment and gender studies, and to those involved in policy analysis, natural resource management and community organisation, as also general readers interested in India’s northeastern region.

Download or read book Personality Of Tribal And Non Tribal School Children written by Ranjit Prasad Singh and published by Discovery Publishing House. This book was released on 2010 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tribals are industrious, hardy, peaceful and simple-minded people and have to be admired for the uniqueness of their culture. The socio-economic, educational and political development after independence have provided a new impetus to the forces of dynamism in the tribal India. Contact with urban people, spread of education, rising aspirations of the tribal youth, growth of social and political leaders all have combined to give rise to, what we may call, tribal elites. The study deals with various problems concerning the development of personality. It is found that some students are good in their studies, while others inspite of their hard labour do not do well in their studies and are frustrated. This has led psychologists as well as researchers to investigate into the different dimensions of personality.

Spread over five chapters, this study unfolds the privatisation of communal land in the backdrop of a larger theoretical and historical canvas. It deals with the different institutional modes of privatisation, accumulation and dispossession of communal land, the changes in land use and cropping patterns, the changes in land relations and the land-based identity of the tribal community as a result. The conclusive chapter makes a broader reflection of the grand narrative of privatisation, accumulation and dispossession of communal land in North East India. Download or read book Ethnomedicinal Matrix written by Pulucheru Vishnu Dev and published by Educreation Publishing. This book was released on with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While examining the relationship between health, culture and medicine in post-colonial India, the dominant perspective in sociological and anthropological literature conceptualizes medicine and culture as autonomous domains and views the relationship between the two in oppositional terms where culture (lay persons' beliefs and practices) is seen largely as impeding the progress of biomedicine (allopathic, modern medicine). In this conceptual scheme, all medical knowledge systems other than biomedicine is denied any valid medical status, clubbed as culture devoid of any cognitive content, and is seen as coterminous with religion and superstition. This perspective largely ignores the ground reality of the existence of ethno-medicine among Tribal communities. Tribal contributed tremendously to the development of indigenous medical systems in India. However, their contributions have not been documented and studied properly. This book makes a modest attempt to bridge this gap and offers a platform for debate and discussion towards safeguarding and development of Tribal medicine in India.
