Book Status of Atlantic Salmon Salmo Salar L Stock of Three Selected Rivers in Salmon Fishing Area 14A 1998

Download or read book Status of Atlantic Salmon Salmo Salar L Stock of Three Selected Rivers in Salmon Fishing Area 14A 1998 written by C. C. Mullins and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Salmon stocks of Lomond River, Torrent River and Western Arm Brook exceeded conservation requirements in 1998 as in every year since 1992 due to increasing small and large salmon returns and increasing proportion of large salmon. In contrast to the other two rivers, the returns to Torrent River have shown an increasing trend since the 1970s, possibly due to the successful colonisation of a major portion of the watershed with adult salmon and early high survival of juvenile salmon in the freshwater environment. The potential for future growth in these stocks is evidenced by improvements seen in juvenile densities and in smolt production on Western Arm Brook.

Book Salmon at the Edge

Download or read book Salmon at the Edge written by Derek Mills and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Salmon at the Edge covers, in depth, the problems faced by wild Atlantic salmon and sea trout in estuaries and coastal zones, and in their early weeks at sea. The book also reflects the current precarious state of many migratory salmonid populations and the need for new approaches to a number of threats to these populations. Generated from papers given at the landmark Sixth Atlantic Salmon Symposium, held in Edinburgh, UK, Salmon at the Edge contains a huge wealth of information on such important topics as the impact of salmon farming, the behaviour of post-smolts in their early migration and their vulnerability to by-catch, and the use of nutrient enrichment and habitat enhancement to increase production of juvenile salmonids. With chapters written by internationally-known and respected authors, and including a message of support from His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, this important volume is essential reading for all those involved with salmonid fishes, including fish biologists, fisheries scientists and managers, environmental, marine and freshwater scientists, and personnel involved in salmon aquaculture. Libraries in all universities and research establishments where these subjects are studied and taught should have copies on their shelves. The Sixth Atlantic Salmon Symposium, from which chapters in this book have been generated, was organised by The Atlantic Salmon Trust and The Atlantic Salmon Federation, and was published with the financial support of The Fishmongers’ Company and Scottish and Southern Energy. Derek Mills of The Atlantic Salmon Trust, Pitlochry, Perthshire, UK has many years of research, writing and editing experience in salmon biology and fisheries

Book Status of Rocky and Little Rivers Atlantic Salmon Salmo Salar L Stocks of the Newfoundland Region in 1998

Download or read book Status of Rocky and Little Rivers Atlantic Salmon Salmo Salar L Stocks of the Newfoundland Region in 1998 written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The two watersheds in Newfoundland discussed in this paper have all undergone Atlantic salmon enhancement or stocking activities. Rocky River on the Avalon Peninsula was the site of a colonization project where a run of Atlantic salmon was established. Little River, which flows into the Bay d'Espoir, is the site of an ongoing ranching project with associated fry stocking. The intent of this document is to review the status of Atlantic salmon stocks in the two watersheds in 1998. Information is included on watershed characteristics, conservation requirements, enhancement/stocking activities, management restrictions, salmon fecundity, egg depositions, smolt counts, smolt to adult survival, egg to smolt survival, parr rearing, and predicted versus observed adult returns.

Book Status of Atlantic Salmon Salmo Salar L Stocks of Insular Newfoundland SFAs 3 14A 2002

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper assesses the general status of Atlantic salmon stocks in Salmon Fishing Areas 3 to 14A of the Newfoundland region in 2002. Catch & effort data from the recreational fishery, along with counts at fishways & counting fences, are examined in relation to historical data and management measures in effect in 2002. Results are presented & discussed by Fishing Area with regard to smolt-to-adult survival; recreational catches; fish counts at counting facilities, with comparisons to counts in earlier years; and total returns of small & large salmon.

Book Status of Atlantic Salmon Salmo Salar L Stock of Harry s River Pinchgut Brook Newfoundland 1998

Download or read book Status of Atlantic Salmon Salmo Salar L Stock of Harry s River Pinchgut Brook Newfoundland 1998 written by C. C. Mullins and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Harry's River is the most northerly of the eight scheduled Atlantic salmon rivers flowing into Bay St. George, Salmon Fishing Area (SFA) 13. The recreational fishery on this river was under quota management until 1995 and the river has been closed to retention angling since 1996. In 1993-95, after the introduction of the commercial fishery moratorium, recreational catches of small salmon remained among the lowest on record but large salmon showed signs of improvement. However, estimates of spawning escapements in those years indicate that the population size of both small and large salmon remained at a low level. This document presents the seventh assessment of the status of the Atlantic salmon stock of Harry's River since 1992. The status of the stock is assessed relative to the conservation requirement based on counts of adult salmon at the counting fence on Pinchgut Brook tributary and spawning surveys of the entire river system.
