Book Static and Dynamic Shear Behavior of Uniformly Loaded Reinforced Concrete Deep Beams

Download or read book Static and Dynamic Shear Behavior of Uniformly Loaded Reinforced Concrete Deep Beams written by Robert A. Crist and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Behavioral equations were developed for reinforced concrete deep beams, especially in the realm of shear capacity. A series of static and dynamic beam tests was performed to aid in the development of this objective. Static shear behavior equations for deep beams were derived on the lower boundary of reinforced concrete deep beam data represented by research from this report and other research comprising 73 tests. Equations for a total static shear capacity are given which conservatively predict shear capacities of the beam tests considered. (Author).

Book Strength and Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Slab column Connections Subjected to Static and Dynamic Loadings

Download or read book Strength and Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Slab column Connections Subjected to Static and Dynamic Loadings written by Marvin E. Criswell and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of this investigation were to study the strength and behavior of slowly (statically) loaded reinforced concrete slab-column connections and to determine the effect of rapid (dynamic) loading on the strength and behavior by comparison with the static test results. Nineteen full-scale models of a connection and adjoining slab area, consisting of a simply supported slab 84 or 94 inches square and 6-1/2 inches thick loaded concentrically on a 10- or 20-inch-square stub column at the center of the slab, were tested. The main variables were the amounts of reinforcement in the slab (p = 0.75 and 1.50 percent), the column size, and the loading speed. Eight specimens were loaded to failure statically, two were subjected to a very rapidly applied load of short duration, and nine were loaded to failure by a rapidly applied load with a rise time chosen to represent the conditions in a blast-loaded structure. The static test results are compared with 12 shear strength prediction methods. Differences between the mechanism of shear failure in slabs and beams are examined. (Author).

Book The Investigation of Deep Reinforced Concrete Beams Under Static and Dynamic Loading Vol Ii Strength and Behavior in Shear

Download or read book The Investigation of Deep Reinforced Concrete Beams Under Static and Dynamic Loading Vol Ii Strength and Behavior in Shear written by H. A. R. DE PAIVA and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thirty-five beams were tested, 13 statically and 22 dynamically, to determine their strength and behavior in shear; to determine if failure under a dynamic load was different from that under a static load; and to evaluate the effectiveness of web reinforcement in moderately deep beams. All beams tested, both statically and dynamically, exhibited arch action prior to failure. Three types of failures are described for both tests: flexure, shear, and flexure-shear. Web reinforcement in the beams tested both ways contributed little toward an increase in strength or a change in behavior and mode of failure, except for generally reducing the ultimate deflections. The static strength at flexural yielding in these moderately deep beams could be predicted reasonably well by the conventional straight line theory. The ultimate static flexural strength could be predicted by the standard ultimate strength procedure provided an increased value of the limiting concrete strain equal to 0.008 is used at failure. Book Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Deep Beams Under Static and Dynamic Loading

Download or read book Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Deep Beams Under Static and Dynamic Loading written by Fred W. Beaufait and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the review of eleven references concerning reinforced concrete deep beams, it was possible to summarize: (1) the modes of failure of deep beams, (2) the static ultimate strength design equations for flexure and shear, and (3) the flexure and shear design equations for deep beams subjected to dynamic loading. In addition, a computer program was written to develop the moment-curvature curve for a reinforced concrete beam section with tensile reinforcement in a single layer. A limited experimental investigation was conducted for two reinforced concrete deep beams having span-to-depth ratios of 1.67 and subjected to a single, concentrated dynamic load at midspan. The results served to point out the areas where additional research is required to develop a more complete understanding of the behavior of reinforced concrete deep beams. Recommendations are made as to needs for additional study. (Author).

Book Dynamic Shear Resistance of Thin webbed Reinforced Concrete Beams

Download or read book Dynamic Shear Resistance of Thin webbed Reinforced Concrete Beams written by David S. Fuss and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experiments were performed to obtain information on the dynamic shear and diagonal tension resistance of reinforced concrete I-beams constructed with welded-wire fabric as web reinforcement. These experiments were in support of the ultimate objective of the project, which is a formulate design criteria for thin-shell concrete structures to withstand dynamic loading such as is produced by the detonation of a nuclear weapon. Under uniformly distributed loads, the dynamic diagonal tension resistance of the beams was found to be significantly greater than the static diagonal tension resistance. The increase in resistance was attributed to the increase in tensile strength of concrete under rapid stressing. The ultimate shear resistance of the beams could not be precisely determined from the tests because only three of the beams failed in shear. However, evidence was found that the dynamic ultimate resistance of such beams is only slightly greater than the static ultimate resistance. (Author).

Book Shear Behavior of Deep Reinforced Concrete Beams Volume III Dynamic Tests

Download or read book Shear Behavior of Deep Reinforced Concrete Beams Volume III Dynamic Tests written by Robert A. Crist and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Large-scale dynamic tests were performed on deep reinforced concrete beams. Nominal concrete strengths for all tests varied between 2,000 and 3,500 psi; intermediate-grade ASTM A 15 reinforcing steel was used. All beams were simply supported. Tests were performed on nine beams of three span-depth ratios (1.66, 2.67, and 3.62), subjected to a uniformly distributed dynamic transient load. The beams contained longitudinal tensile reinforcing with or without web reinforcing. Both horizontal and vertical web reinforcement were used. Behavior was observed as the span-depth ratio and web reinforcement were varied. Numerous modes of failure in shear were observed as beam configuration was varied. Modes of failure transitioned from shear to flexure as the span-depth ratio increased and the amount and orientation of web reinforcement were varied. Data were correlated with mathematical models derived in this study and with models developed in static tests. The mathematical models were used to investigate shear behavior for deep beams. Equations were developed which predicted the median shear behavior of deep beams with web reinforcement. Dynamic response prediction models were developed which predicted the measured response of the dynamic test beams. Recommendations are made for further research in the development of improved design criteria for Air Force defense systems. (Author).
