But when the couple is accused of being the cause of her former fiancé's death, Trent leaves her to handle things on her own. Melodie Henries will never trust Trent Harrell not to bail when things get hard. A singer/songwriter down on his luck and a novelist, their romance should harmonize but past mistakes pluck a wrong note. When the two agree to do a battle-of-the-sexes renovation competition, more than their romance flames to life as they become the target of a stalker bent on revenge. Can they change the tune of an old song, or will their melody fall flat? Left broken and disillusioned by one reality show, why would Trent ever agree to do another? But given the chance to make things up to the girl he betrayed, Trent Harrell would do anything, even agree to star in a renovation reality show competition. Trent's leaving nearly destroyed her, but Melodie Henries refuses to let him do it again. She's doing the show to promote her books, not rekindle an old flame. When a stalker blames them for the death of Trent's former bandmate and Melodie's former fiancé, the couple must delve into the past for clues. Can they discover the threat in time?

Book Wagner and Beethoven

Download or read book Wagner and Beethoven written by Klaus Kropfinger and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1991-07-04 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyzes the lifelong impact of Beethoven's music on Wagner and its importance for his conception of music drama. Kropfinger charts and scrutinizes Wagner's early responses to the composer and considers his experience as a conductor of Beethoven's music. A discussion of the Romantic "Beethoven image" leads to a careful study of Wagner's aesthetic writings, including his "programmatic explanations," the text "Concerning Franz Liszt's symphonic poems," and his Beethoven centenary essay. The penultimate chapter addresses Wagner's theory and practice of music drama, which he came to regard as the preordained successor to the Beethoven symphony. By analyzing special terms--such as "Leitmotiv"--Wagner's structural view of musical drama comes to the fore; it is a view that deepens not only our understanding of musical drama as a "hybrid" genre of art but also of purely musical structure and forms that Wagner sought to outdo.

Book Making Sense of Neuroscience in the Early Years

Download or read book Making Sense of Neuroscience in the Early Years written by Sally Featherstone and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-11-16 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Translating research about child neuroscience into practice in education is a daunting prospect for most practitioners. In fact, many see it as fraught with difficulties and risky. However, the importance of this research has never been more important. The context of the early years in the UK, has seen considerable changes within recent years, with a raft of government regulation and guidance, and a national move to free childcare entitlement at increasingly earlier ages. Combined with a mounting pressure for accountability in 'Closing the Gap' between disadvantaged children and those more fortunate, these pressures make it fundamental that those working with young children understand what neuroscience is telling us, and more important, what it is not. Practitioners, teachers managers, and governors in settings and schools will not only be called to account for the attainment of their children, as measured in tests, but in the way children are prepared for lifelong earning, which will support them for the rest of their school lives and beyond. This book is a comprehensive position statement for practitioners that highlights: where we are now; what we know; what we don't know; what research developments mean for practitioners and setting, and how this fits in with the government expectations within the EYFS framework. Sally Featherstone covers the current thinking in educational research and neuroscience, how some of this has been misinterpreted by 'early adopters' or 'over-enthusiastic promoters', and how new information can help practitioners to be more effective in their work with young children.

Book The Many Faces of Weimar Cinema

Download or read book The Many Faces of Weimar Cinema written by Christian Rogowski and published by Camden House. This book was released on 2010 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditionally, Weimar cinema has been equated with the work of a handful of auteurist filmmakers and a limited number of canonical films. Often a single, limited phenomenon, "expressionist film," has been taken as synonymous with the cinema of the entire period. But in recent decades, such reductive assessments have been challenged by developments in film theory and archival research that highlight the tremendous richness and diversity of Weimar cinema. This widening of focus has brought attention to issues such as film as commodity; questions of technology and genre; transnational collaborations and national identity; effects of changes in socioeconomics and gender roles on film spectatorship; and connections between film and other arts and media. Such shifts have been accompanied by archival research that has made a cornucopia of new information available and augmented by the increased availability of films from the period on DVD. This wealth of new source material calls for a re-evaluation of Weimar cinema that considers the legacies of lesser-known directors and producers, popular genres, experiments of the artistic avant-garde, and nonfiction films, all of which are aspects attended to by the essays in this volume. Contributors: Ofer Ashkenazi, Jaimey Fisher, Veronika Fuechtner, Joseph Garncarz, Barbara Hales, Anjeana Hans, Richard W. McCormick, Nancy P. Nenno, Elizabeth Otto, Mihaela Petrescu, Theodore F. Rippey, Christian Rogowski, Jill Smith, Philipp Stiasny, Chris Wahl, Cynthia Walk, Valerie Weinstein, Joel Westerdale. Christian Rogowski is Professor and Chair of German at Amherst College.

Book excerpt: It had to happen sooner or later. Man playing God, continuously interfering with nature and the natural order of life. No one heeded nor cared for the consequences. Too late, the geneticists realised that treating natural selection with contempt would have consequences. A mistake was made, a terrible, incalculable mistake! A mistake that would threaten life itself.
