Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Star Death is a science-based fiction book depicting "sun death" as revealed by the Prophets and as depicted by the Apostle Peter in the Holy Bible. It also parallels scientific estimations of solar entropy as forecast by major astrophysicists who have pushed Relativity Theory to its applicable limits. This book, based on real scientific theorization, is fresh in perspective and presents the laws of thermodynamics in a way never entertained before. The sun, reacting to inputs from the outer reaches of the Milky Way Galaxy, must therefore "negotiate" the "tugs of entropy"; it stretches its electromagnetic curtain to envelop the whole heliosphere into tumultuous radiation eruptions that extend even to the outer periphery of the solar system. Jupiter, Mercury, and the Earth convulse under tremendous pressures that impinge upon their mass and magnetic fields, respectively, to produce turbulence and perturbations uprooting the relative tranquility of the solar system. On the Earth, there is life, human life. Gravi-metric processes become chaotic and erratic so as to disrupt the daily routine of productive life. With impending "star death" came the imperative necessity to create a permanent, safe, space habitation for the human family. As "sun death" affected the whole human species, countries undertook to cooperate internationally in order to alleviate human suffering in the light of the possible extinction of the family of Man.

Carver handles not one, but two hot topics, and presents both vividly.” —David Brin, author of Existence and Startide Rising “Running from the micro to the macro and back again, redefining sentience, space-time, and perhaps humanity along the way, From a Changeling Star is a fast-paced puzzler, rich in invention, and Jeffrey A. Carver’s most ambitious book to date.” —Roger Zelazny “As audacious and imaginative as the best of John Varley, with characters as memorable as those of Sturgeon or Zelazny, and with one of the most powerful endings in science fiction, this book will both hold and reward your attention.” —Spider Robinson, author of The Stardance Trilogy and Variable Star “Carver does an excellent job of tickling your sense of wonder, and in the end he leaves you both satisfied and craving another serving of his considerable talent.” —Tom Easton, Analog

Book Death and the Rock Star

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The untimely deaths of Amy Winehouse (2011) and Whitney Houston (2012), and the ’resurrection’ of Tupac Shakur for a performance at the Coachella music festival in April 2012, have focused the media spotlight on the relationship between popular music, fame and death. If the phrase ’sex, drugs and rock’n’roll’ ever qualified a lifestyle, it has left many casualties in its wake, and with the ranks of dead musicians growing over time, so the types of death involved and the reactions to them have diversified. Conversely, as many artists who fronted the rock’n’roll revolution of the 1950s and 1960s continue to age, the idea of dying young and leaving a beautiful corpse (which gave rise, for instance, to the myth of the ’27 Club’) no longer carries the same resonance that it once might have done. This edited collection explores the reception of dead rock stars, ’rock’ being taken in the widest sense as the artists discussed belong to the genres of rock’n’roll (Elvis Presley), disco (Donna Summer), pop and pop-rock (Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse), punk and post-punk (GG Allin, Ian Curtis), rap (Tupac Shakur), folk (the Dutchman André Hazes) and ’world’ music (Fela Kuti). When music artists die, their fellow musicians, producers, fans and the media react differently, and this book brings together their intertwining modalities of reception. The commercial impact of death on record sales, copyrights, and print media is considered, and the different justifications by living artists for being involved with the dead, through covers, sampling and tributes. The cultural representation of dead singers is investigated through obituaries, biographies and biopics, observing that posthumous fame provides coping mechanisms for fans, and consumers of popular culture more generally, to deal with the knowledge of their own mortality. Examining the contrasting ways in which male and female dead singers are portrayed in the media, the book

Download or read book The New Astronomy written by Nigel Henbest and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1996-08-28 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New Astronomy is a rich kaleidoscope of the finest images of planets, stars, galaxies and the universe. It presents a host of new information, gathered from right across the spectrum: spanning the colourful universe from X-rays, through ultraviolet, visible and infrared, and out to the radio waves. Nigel Henbest and Michael Marten take us on a journey in which we view the variety of the cosmos and its contents through every available window. The first edition of The New Astronomy created a sensation, as no accessible description of modern astronomy had attempted to assemble images from so wide a range. For the new edition there are almost 200 entirely new pictures, selected from the Hubble Space Telescope and orbiting X-ray detectors, as well as from very large telescopes based at Mauna Kea, Hawaii and in the Canary Islands. The new science includes intriguing images from gravitational lenses, which are natural telescopes created by black holes inside other galaxies, and a full description of the latest images of the background radiation of the universe. From the nearby planets to, quite literally, the edge of the observable universe, this book is a brilliant synthesis of all that is new in the astronomy of today. Each object described is displayed in a variety of wavelengths. The non-technical text explains the science behind the objects, and it has been substantially re-written for this second edition.

Book From the sun s energy source to the formation of the solar system

Download or read book From the sun s energy source to the formation of the solar system written by Dan Bar-Zohar and published by Dan Bar Zohar. This book was released on 2006-12-04 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The latest observation of hundreds of exoplanets and the discovery of supermassive black hole at the center of many galaxies set the foundation for the theory presented in this book. The theory suggest that the sun and stars energy source is not from fusion, but instead from magnetic fields spreads in the galaxy by the supermassive black hole at the center of every galaxy. This idea changes every aspect of astronomy and cosmology. The big bang is no longer necessary to explain the source of the mass in the universe and the expansion of the universe. According to this theory the matter in the universe is created in the cores of stars by conversion of energy to mass. The expansion of the universe is induced by the rapid formation of new galaxies. Stars grow slowly and gradually over tens of billion of years by conversion of energy to mass. The gradual growth of stars and the planet search programs that found hundreds of nearby planets indicate that stars are born from planets. This invalidates the solar nebula hypothesis as the source of the stars and the solar system. Stars fluctuate from a main sequence state to a red giant state. They stay in the main sequence when they receive strong magnetic fields and they turn into a red giant when the magnetic fields are weakened. The sun also fluctuated from a main sequence to a red giant. When the sun was a red giant it had strong solar wind that supplied the material to created the planets. The solar system contains hard evidence that the sun was a red giant, those are short lived isotopes and chondrules. The fact that there is hard evidenced to a red giant sun confirm this theory. Highlights of this theory include the following: 1. The sun energy source is from magnetic fields from the galactic center. 2. The heat induced by the magnetic fields leads to high energy collision between particle in the sun core that creates new particle and increase the sun mass. 3. All the stars in the galaxy create new mass so the total mass and the size of the galaxy is increasing. 4. The stars in the galaxy eject dust that freefall to the galactic center supermassive black hole. Thorough the dynamo effect the gravitational potential energy of the debris and dust is converted to magnetic fields. 5. As the galaxy mass and size increase, globular clusters are detached form the main galaxy to create new galaxies. 6. Galaxies spawn new galaxies and the total number of galaxies in the universe increase. 7. The universe expands and accelerates from the increase in the number of the galaxies. 8. The Big Bang cosmological model is replaced by a new cosmological model that resembles the steady state theory. 9. Stars grow gradually from conversion of energy to mass. 10.Stars are born from planets, they first grow by accretion and then by conversion of energy to mass. 11.Stars fluctuate from main sequence to a red giant. When the magnetic fields are strong the star is in the main sequence, when the magnetic fields are weakened the star turn to a red giant. 12.The sun was a red giant 4.6 billions years ago. 13.The planets were created from the strong solar wind of the red giant sun.

Book excerpt: Our world faces threats on many fronts—terrorism, environmental and natural disasters, and pandemics, to name just a few. In light of these growing dangers, we must ask: Is the total annihilation of the human race inevitable, or can we be saved? With a breadth and depth of knowledge that serves as a foundation to his proposals, along with almost forty years of research, Saving Humanity addresses these questions and assures readers that hope for human survival and happiness still exists, but only if we unite under a common purpose. Chinese scholar and scientist Jiaqi Hu proposes that humanity won’t be wiped out by war or nuclear weapons, famine, or climate change. Instead, the chief culprit raging against our survival is technology. If technology continues to grow and develop, human beings could vanish from the earth in less than two or three hundred years. Hu’s solution to this problem will challenge and inspire readers as they realize that the future of humanity rests in our hands— now. Devoting all of his time to his mission of spreading this message of hope and urgency, Jiaqi Hu is reaching out to leaders and people of influence who can be the giants to lead the charge of saving humanity. Please read and share, spreading the word and raising up giants.

Book Grateful Dead and the Art of Rock Improvisation

Download or read book Grateful Dead and the Art of Rock Improvisation written by David Malvinni and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2013-02-28 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over 15 years since the death of lead guitarist and singer Jerry Garcia, the Grateful Dead stands as a cultural symbol of the unresolved cultural clashes of 1960s. The band’s 30-year odyssey is a testament to the American imagination, with thousands of live concert recordings by fans and the band itself, preserved alongside a cultural iconography of images, artwork, and paraphernalia. Most recently, the Grateful Dead has stepped up release of its live archive of recordings, culminating in one of the largest boxed sets of live music—73 compact discs—ever released. This publicly available archive of recorded music lays the groundwork for David Malvinni’s exploration in Grateful Dead and the Art of Rock Improvisation on the band’s musical signature as the ultimate jam band. Malvinni considers a a select group of songs from the Dead’s early repertoire, from its unique covers of “Viola Lee Blues,” “Midnight Hour,” and “Love Light” to original masterpieces like “Dark Star.” Marrying basic music analysis to philosophical frames offered by improvisatory musings of Heidegger, Derrida, and Deleuze, Malvinni outlines the core aesthetic underlying the Dead’s musical styling. In tracing the evolution of the band’s unique jam style, Malvinni outlines The Dead’s gift as gatherers and collectors of old and new soundscapes in their improvisations. Like no other band, The Dead brought together a variety of styles from roots and folk to country and free jazz to postmodern European art music. Devoted Deadheads reveled in the band’s polyglot approach to playing live, its free-wheeling and often risky efforts to reach a type of cosmic ecstasy, commonly described as the “X factor.” Although fans and scholars alike recognize the Grateful Dead as icons of the psychedelic music, the band’s improvisatory approach still remains an enigma to the uninitiated. In Grateful Dead and the Art of Rock Improvisation, Malvinni unravels this mystery, walking readers through the band’s musical decision-making process. Written for rock music fans with little to no background in music theory, and scholars and students of popular music culture, the book reveal the method behind the seeming madness of America’s greatest jam band.
