David Bowie is one of the most influential artists of our time, beloved for his joyful self-expression and fierce individuality. But how did he come to be this iconic Starman, celebrated by millions around the world? Inspired by the life and lyrics of David Bowie, author-illustrator Jami Gigot imagines the story of a lonely young boy enchanted by the music of the stars—yet no one else can hear the shimmy-shake rhythm that moves through his body. At first misunderstood and ignored, David ultimately finds the courage to be true to himself, sparking a dazzling revolution... Download or read book Virtual Music written by Shara Rambarran and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2021-04-08 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Virtuality has entered our lives making anything we desire possible. We are, as Gorillaz once sang, in an exciting age where 'the digital won't let [us] go...' Technology has revolutionized music, especially in the 21st century where the traditional rules and conventions of music creation, consumption, distribution, promotion, and performance have been erased and substituted with unthinkable and exciting methods in which absolutely anyone can explore, enjoy, and participate in creating and listening to music. Virtual Music explores the interactive relationship of sound, music, and image, and its users (creators/musicians/performers/audience/consumers). Areas involving the historical, technological, and creative practices of virtual music are surveyed including its connection with creators, musicians, performers, audience, and consumers. Shara Rambarran looks at the fascination and innovations surrounding virtual music, and illustrates key artists (such as Grace Jones, The Weeknd), creators (such as King Tubby, Kraftwerk, MadVillain, Danger Mouse), audiovisuals in video games and performances (such as Cuphead and Gorillaz), audiences, and consumers that contribute in making this musical experience a phenomenon. Whether it is interrogating the (un)realness of performers, modified identities of artists, technological manipulation of the Internet, music industry and music production, or accessible opportunities in creativity, the book offers a fresh understanding of virtual music and appeals to readers who have an interest in this digital revolution.

Download or read book Starchild written by Jim G Styles and published by Jim G Styles. This book was released on 2007-08-14 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's now the year of our Lord, 2915. Human civilization having attained near perfection... and Womankind's very first starship, the S.E.A.S.S. StarChild, is about to disembark on its bachelor voyage to the stars. There it will encounter absolute Hell. A Hell that changed Human herstory for the very worst nearly 7,000 years before-threatening to do that very same thing YET AGAIN!!! Yet even so "StarChild" is more than just science fiction, just as much an adventure romance novel set in the future, a strong element of mystery added. Mostly a love story in the truest sense, the main focus of "StarChild" is on people and the Human element versus mere gadgetry and futuristic jargon. And with its powerful depiction of a better society "StarChild" could even be looked upon as a mistress blueprint for a much better society than that we know today, hope for a brighter future known as the "New Matriarchate"-the Tammyite Matriarchy. Depicted in a more intelligent, realistic, sophisticated, and sensitive manner than normally experienced in works of fiction involving matriarchal civilizations it is a time in which "history" has been replaced by "herstory," delving as well into our past as well as the future.

Book excerpt: My actual name is Tadeusz Hutyra, though for the English/American world I have adopted the name Thaddeus Hutyra. I am the founder of “The Poetry Universe”, “River of Poetry” and a number of other poetry groups on Facebook. Born in mountainous Rajcza, Poland. I spent my childhood and teenage years there studying and I also participated in the “Solidarity movement” against the communist regime. Emigrating to New Zealand when Poland was still in the Soviet thaw I became a citizen within five years, living in the capital city Wellington, often called “Windy Wellington”. Afterwards I travelled worldwide, I have been to amongst other places China, though I finally settled down in Belgium. The USA had always been my intended final destination after my departure from Poland. America, especially New York City with its Statue of Liberty still remain my dream. The freedoms cherished by America are an unstoppable trend that I am fully behind, wishing the same to all individuals across the world, freedom, human rights and love. In the meantime I am feeling quite comfortable living in the European Union, a great project of all Europeans which came true. I express my deep wish readers will enjoy reading this book. If it will be the case then I will be able to say ‘Mission Accomplished’, thank you.
