Download or read book Characterization and Properties of Petroleum Fractions written by M. R. Riazi and published by ASTM International. This book was released on 2005 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last three chapters of this book deal with application of methods presented in previous chapters to estimate various thermodynamic, physical, and transport properties of petroleum fractions. In this chapter, various methods for prediction of physical and thermodynamic properties of pure hydrocarbons and their mixtures, petroleum fractions, crude oils, natural gases, and reservoir fluids are presented. As it was discussed in Chapters 5 and 6, properties of gases may be estimated more accurately than properties of liquids. Theoretical methods of Chapters 5 and 6 for estimation of thermophysical properties generally can be applied to both liquids and gases; however, more accurate properties can be predicted through empirical correlations particularly developed for liquids. When these correlations are developed with some theoretical basis, they are more accurate and have wider range of applications. In this chapter some of these semitheoretical correlations are presented. Methods presented in Chapters 5 and 6 can be used to estimate properties such as density, enthalpy, heat capacity, heat of vaporization, and vapor pressure. Characterization methods of Chapters 2-4 are used to determine the input parameters needed for various predictive methods. One important part of this chapter is prediction of vapor pressure that is needed for vapor-liquid equilibrium calculations of Chapter 9.

Download or read book Chemical Analysis of Contaminated Land written by K. Clive Thompson and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-02-12 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a unique source of reference on the chemical analysis of potentially contaminated land. It assists in specifying appropriate analyses, relevant strategies for carrying out analyses, and methods of interpreting results within the new risk-based legislative framework for contaminated land. It addresses all aspects of the analysis, from delivery of the samples to the laboratory to the presentation of the results to the clients. Emphasis is placed on concentrated, tabular data, wherever possible. Problems of analysis are highlighted and solutions are proposed. Asbestos is covered in detail in the chapter on inorganic parameters, and a chapter is included on the new techniques of ecotoxicity measurement. Directed equally at the analytical chemist and the environmental scientist or engineer responsible for commissioning analyses of potentially contaminated soil or water samples, the book is written in a way that will prove helpful to both new and experienced practitioners. As such, it is one of the first volumes to bridge the gap between the customer and the supplier.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles of Engineering Tribology: Fundamentals and Applications introduces readers to the core theories and fundamentals of the field, its basic terminology and concepts, as well as advanced topics such as the tribological properties of various engineering surfaces, roughness measurements, and the mechanics of surface contact. The fundamentals of friction and wear of metallic and non-metallic materials such as polymers, ceramics, rubbers, and composites are discussed, as are fluidic, gaseous, grease, and solid media lubrication techniques. In addition, the properties of lubricants and various types of additives incorporated are discussed, along with a methodology for conducting friction, wear and lubrication laboratory testing and an overview of simulation and modeling methods for various tribosystems. Case studies and applications are featured throughout, with a particular emphasis on analyzing failure modes of tribosystems. - Introduces the basic concepts of tribology, building a comprehensive understanding for readers and then covering more advanced topics - Discusses tribological properties of various engineering surfaces, roughness measurements, and mechanics of surface contact - Covers more advanced topics such as fluidic, gaseous, grease, and solid media lubricants, methods for conducing friction and wear laboratory tests, and more - Includes a wide-range of both traditional and state-of-the-art applications and case studies

Download or read book Fire Debris Analysis written by Eric Stauffer and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2007-12-10 with total page 683 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of fire debris analysis is vital to the function of all fire investigations, and, as such, Fire Debris Analysis is an essential resource for fire investigators. The present methods of analysis include the use of gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, techniques which are well established and used by crime laboratories throughout the world. However, despite their universality, this is the first comprehensive resource that addresses their application to fire debris analysis.Fire Debris Analysis covers topics such as the physics and chemistry of fire and liquid fuels, the interpretation of data obtained from fire debris, and the future of the subject. Its cutting-edge material and experienced author team distinguishes this book as a quality reference that should be on the shelves of all crime laboratories. - Serves as a comprehensive guide to the science of fire debris analysis - Presents both basic and advanced concepts in an easily readable, logical sequence - Includes a full-color insert with figures that illustrate key concepts discussed in the text

Download or read book Chemistry and Technology of Lubricants written by Roy M. Mortier and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-04-14 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Chemistry and Technology of Lubricants" describes the chemistry and technology of base oils, additives and applications of liquid lubricants. This Third Edition reflects how the chemistry and technology of lubricants has developed since the First Edition was published in 1992. The acceleration of performance development in the past 35 years has been as significant as in the previous century: Refinery processes have become more precise in defining the physical and chemical properties of higher quality mineral base oils. New and existing additives have improved performance through enhanced understanding of their action. Specification and testing of lubricants has become more focused and rigorous. "Chemistry and Technology of Lubricants" is directed principally at those working in the lubricants industry as well as individuals working within academia seeking a chemist's viewpoint of lubrication. It is also of value to engineers and technologists requiring a more fundamental understanding of the subject.
