Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Money and Banking The treatment of Money in Part I follows in a general way the lines made familiar by other standard works to which frequent references are made in the footnotes and m the suggested reading lists at the end of each chapter. The efiort has been made to compress this part of the book into the smallest space consistent with a presentation of essentials in the history, theory and principles of money, leaving the major part of the book for the discussion of the principles and practices of banking. In the chapters devoted to banking organization and practice it has been impossible to give consideration to the varying local cus toms and practices of different types of banking institutions. The aim has been to describe those principles and practices of commercial banking that are common to all banks. Though the new Federal reserve system introduces far reaching changes in our banking and currency system, many years must elapse before its full effects can be definitely measured. Throughout Part II frequent reference is made to various provisions of the Act of 1913, and Chapter XXII is devoted to an analysis of its leading provisions, and a summary of the steps taken in the establishment of the new system. A proper understanding of the new system, how ever, can be gained only by following its Operations and marking the effect of changes that will certainly be made in the law from time to time. It is believed that the addition of the complete text of the Federal Reserve Act (appendix) About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Elements of Banking Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Elements of Banking Classic Reprint written by Henry Dunning MacLeod and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-06 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Elements of Banking 1. Banking is a department of the great Science of Economics, which is the Science of Exchanges, or of Commerce in its widest extent. The word Economics is derived from the Greek olkof, which is the technical term in Attic law for Property of all sorts and descriptions, whatever its nature be, and vouos, a law. Hence the word Economics means the Science which treats of the Laws which govern the relations of Exchangeable Quantities. Banking, as will be explained more fully hereafter, is that department of the Science of Economics which treats of the exchanges of Money for Credit, and of Credit for Credit. 2. Aristotle says: - "We call Wealth everything whose value is measured by Money," or rather, we may say everything which is exchangeable, as Money itself is an Exchangeable Quantity. Aristotle's definition of Wealth is now generally accepted by modern Economists as the true one, thus Mill says: - "Everything forms therefore a part of Wealth which has power of purchasing." Book American Banking Practice Classic Reprint

Download or read book American Banking Practice Classic Reprint written by William H. Kniffin and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-12 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from American Banking Practice For a long time past there has been an apparent need for a treatise on practical banking that would give a complete summary of the operation of a bank in such form as could be used as a text for teaching. While many excellent works have heretofore been written on both the theory and practice of banking, no one work has in itself adequately covered the subject, making necessary the use of several books in order to supply such information as the student requires. More over, no other work has attempted to weave into banking practice the Negotiable Instruments Law, so essential to bank operation. It has therefore been the aim to present a simple, yet comprehensive picture of the Work of a bank in every detail. The author wishes to make special acknowledgement to that splendid work recently issued by the National City Bank under the title Practical Bank Operation, from which many valuable suggestions have been Obtained as to the conduct of a large institution. Supplementing his own experiences and observations with such informa tion, he has attempted to present a composite picture of banking practice as it is now conducted under recognized American procedure. Credit is also due to the Irving National Bank of New York for the use of its forms. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The direct cause of his death was over-work. He died at Boston, May 22, 1886. The papers collected in the present work began in rhodes' journal OF banking in August, 1884, and were continued. Download or read book Banking for Beginners Classic Reprint written by J. F. Ebersole and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-29 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Banking for Beginners The beginner in a bank usually discovers that he does not have at his command a sufficient knowledge of commercial docu ments and banking practice. Later on, also, he often realizes that he did not start out with the best principles of personal conduct or a proper atti tude or view of his own job. It is the object of this book to help the beginner in acquiring these meces sary things at the earliest possible moment. He may then become a very efficient helper within a short time. The managers of banks who are obliged to train beginners also find this to be a problem of some difficulty and considerable ex pense. It has been suggested that the training of the average beginner costs a bank a total of about two hundred dollars in the form of unearned wages at the start, valuable time consumed by the officers or men in the bank who supervise the in struction of beginners, losses through errors due to ignorance, and waste due to inefficient utiliza tion of time and energy. Book The English Manual of Banking Classic Reprint

Download or read book The English Manual of Banking Classic Reprint written by Arthur Crump and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-16 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The English Manual of Banking Constable the painter said has been taught by a very ignorant person. Theoretical works on banking differ from practical treatises in this, that the theorist who knows little or nothing of the practice beyond what he has gained from books and hearsay, teaches to a great extent what he imagines to be instead of what he knows to be the practice. Readers can always feel whether their guide is treading along as if he did not fear to be heard by those who know, and whether or not he is quite familiar with the streams to be forded and the passes to be traversed. This revised and enlarged manual of banking makes no pretence to do anything more than to show to the best of our ability what banks are for and how they are worked. We have certainly in some respects gone over the limits marked out for the book of which this is the second edition, but that has been necessary for the simple reason that in ten years there have been some changes. These changes have likewise given rise to certain suggestions upon which we have ventured. We have not gone much into the subject of foreign banking, because banking abroad is very little developed as compared with this Kingdom; but we have devoted a few pages to it that the reader may compare the progress which neighbouring countries are making in this important science.
