Download or read book HM Courts Service written by Great Britain. National Audit Office and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2009 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Crown Court operates from around 500 court rooms at almost 100 locations around England and Wales. In 2007 it heard 135,000 criminal cases, including the most serious cases, up 5 per cent from 2005. Some Crown Court locations in London and parts of the South East are running at, or close to, full capacity, which can increase waiting times affecting victims, witnesses and other parties in a court case. At some locations HM Courts Service has used magistrates' court rooms to reduce the shortage of Crown Court rooms. It has also transferred blocks of cases between different locations. HM Courts Service is planning to spend 120 million to increase the number of Crown Court rooms by 30 (6 per cent) over the next three years. HM Courts Service should improve its assessment of future Crown Court workload and finalise a standard way of assessing the court rooms needed to meet that workload. For 2009-10, onwards HM Courts Service has established a new staffing model - the first since 2004-05 - for determining staff levels. It is also working with the Ministry of Justice to improve learning and development programmes for Crown Court staff. Improvements are needed to the two main Crown Court IT systems. The case management system - CREST - is 20 years old and is no longer supported by the manufacturer, bringing operational risks. The XHIBIT system provides real time information on the progress of trials and records results, but it needs greater flexibility to respond to changes in legislation. XHIBIT is not currently able to accommodate new or revised forms when they are introduced.

Download or read book Draft Marine Bill written by Bernan and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2008 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Marine Bill was designed to establish a new UK-wide strategic system of marine planning to balance conservation, energy and resource needs, based on the principle of sustainable development and working with the devolved administrations. The Committee reports here reservations about the framework nature of the draft Bill. It was felt that too much of its policy is contained in secondary legislation or guidance. That there are significant areas of confusion of responsibility - between UK and international, especially EU, obligations; between devolved administrations; the many agencies and other bodies who will be involved in delivering the proposals in the Bill.

Download or read book Hierophantic Landscapes written by Richard Leviton and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-09-26 with total page 701 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Earth is poised to make a great disclosure. Its a hierophant. But whats a hierophant? A person who reveals the holy light. But it can also be a landscape or a planet. And whats the holy light? It is the structure of reality and consciousness, a map of the heavenly realms, the engineering blueprint of Creation. Some people call this imminent disclosure the Apocalypse and run for cover. But that is mistaken. Apocalypse means the revelation of the divine revelation. It means the end of our picture of the world as we know it. The world itself will be fine, even better than fine. Splendid. Illumined. The Architect of reality lays down His cards, face up, and you see the whole deck. Here is the truth of yourself and the Earth. How will this disclosure work? What we call sacred sites and holy landscapes will start revealing themselves in full to us in all their geomantic and visionary richness. Thats the inner patterning of their design, their arrays of Light temples and subtle palaces primed for our visionary adventures and edification. The Earth needs us to have these adventures and visions because thats how we keep the planet healthy. Hierophantic Landscapes visits five landscapes from Norway and England to California and Mexico, providing firsthand reports on the visions and adventures of a small band of geomancers as they seek to unravel the mysteries of the Earth. Maybe not such a small band, because along the way we encounter angels, landscape devas, Nature Spirits, and otherworldly mentors, and revel in vistas of the ancient past of the Earth when that revelation was as fresh as a sunrise, as it will soon be again.
Download or read book New South Wales Legislative Council Practice written by Lynn Lovelock and published by Federation Press. This book was released on 2008 with total page 744 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first edition of New South Wales Legislative Council Practice brings together the history, practice and procedure of the New South Wales Legislative Council - the Upper House of the New South Wales Parliament, and the first and oldest legislative body in Australia.Since the advent of responsible government in New South Wales in 1856, the New South Wales Legislative Council has been the focus of continuous struggle regarding its composition, powers, role and very existence. However, from its tumultuous history, the Council has in recent years emerged as a democratically elected, powerful and effective upper house, in many ways mirroring the development of the Australian Senate. Today the Council performs key functions within the New South Wales system of government including representing the people and scrutinising the executive government as a 'House of Review'.The rich history of the New South Wales Legislative Council has brought with it a wealth of parliamentary precedent with which to guide modern practice and procedures in the House. While practitioners of parliamentary law and practice in New South Wales have long had access to authorities such as Erskine May's Parliamentary Practice and Odgers' Australian Senate Practice, the publication of New South Wales Legislative Council Practice will provide an essential reference book to understanding parliamentary privilege, practice and procedure in the New South Wales Upper House.

Download or read book Innovations in Interventions to Address Intimate Partner Violence written by Tod Augusta-Scott and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-04-21 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Innovations in Interventions to Address Intimate Partner Violence: Research and Practice speaks to what can be done to effectively intervene to end intimate partner violence against women. Including contributions from both researchers and practitioners, chapters describe service innovations across systems in large urban and remote rural contexts, aimed at majority and minority populations, and that utilize a range of theoretical perspectives to understand and promote change in violence and victimization. Reflecting this range, contributions to this volume are organized into five sections: legal responses to domestic violence, intervention with men who have perpetrated domestic violence, responses to women who have experienced domestic violence, restorative approaches to intimate partner violence, and a section on integrating intervention for domestic violence across systems. The book highlights advances in practice which will be of interest to researchers, practitioners, policy makers and students.
Download or read book The State at Work written by Hans-Ulrich Derlien and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Representing the most extensive research on public employment, these two volumes explore the radical changes that have taken place in the configuration of national public services due to a general expansion of public employment that was followed by stagnation and decreases. Part-time employment and the involvement of women also increased as a component of the public sector and were linked to the most important growth areas such as the educational, health care and personal social services sectors. The two volumes that make up this study shed important insight on these changes. Volume 1 offers a unique internationally comparative multi-dimensional analysis of ten public service systems belonging to different families of major advanced western countries. It contains the most comprehensive and comparable quantitative analyses available anywhere of ten public service systems; Britain, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the US, Germany, Spain, France, Denmark and Sweden. Volume 2 is a comprehensive analysis of the ten public service systems, with in-depth comparisons of the systems along eight dimensions including central-regional-local government employment proportions and the change of the services since the 1950s with respect to social composition (gender, minorities, elites, career groups). Scholars and professionals in the fields of public administration, politics and economics will find this two-volume compendium informative and practical.
