Book Augmented Stabilized Formulations with Fictitious Boundary Methods

Download or read book Augmented Stabilized Formulations with Fictitious Boundary Methods written by Rakesh Ranjan and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Augmentation of the SUPS formulation was introduced earlier and successfully applied to solving incompressible Navier- Stokes equations for both two dimensional and three dimensional problems. Fictitious boundary methods (FBM) is a new methodology that aid the study of flow descriptions around solid obstacles on fixed Cartesian product grids that do not require body confirming meshes. FBM has been applied to lower order finite element and spectral/hp least squares techniques. We test the augmented stabilized finite element formulation introduced earlier, (ASUPS) to the fictitious boundary context and use it to solve incompressible flow problems. Utilizing the advantages of fictitious boundary methods we present solutions to flow around an array of two dimensional and three dimensional problems. In two dimensional flow computations we solve flow past a circular and elliptical shaped cylinders. For the ellipse shaped obstacles in a Newtonian flow field we examine the effects of varying boundary conditions and aspect ratios on the flow metrics. Finally we extend the procedures to solving two ellipse and two circular shaped obstacles facing the free stream. In three dimensional computations we examine incompressible flow around a three dimensional ellipse shaped obstacle at Reynolds number Re-200.

Book Finite Element Methods for Incompressible Flow Problems

Download or read book Finite Element Methods for Incompressible Flow Problems written by Volker John and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-27 with total page 816 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores finite element methods for incompressible flow problems: Stokes equations, stationary Navier-Stokes equations and time-dependent Navier-Stokes equations. It focuses on numerical analysis, but also discusses the practical use of these methods and includes numerical illustrations. It also provides a comprehensive overview of analytical results for turbulence models. The proofs are presented step by step, allowing readers to more easily understand the analytical techniques.

Book Adaptive Incompressible Flow Computations with Linearly Implicit Time Discretization and Stabilized Finite Elements

Download or read book Adaptive Incompressible Flow Computations with Linearly Implicit Time Discretization and Stabilized Finite Elements written by Jens Lang and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "Fully adaptive solutions of incompressible flow problems employing the discretization sequence first in time then in space are presented. The time discretization is done by linearly implicit one-step methods possibly of high order with automatic step size control. A posteriori error estimates for the stabilized finite element discretization in space are obtained by solving local Dirichlet problems with higher accuracy. Once those estimates have been computed, we are able to control time and space grids with respect to required tolerances and necessary computational work. The devised method is applied to two benchmark problems in 2D."

Book Finite Element Methods for Viscous Incompressible Flows

Download or read book Finite Element Methods for Viscous Incompressible Flows written by Max D. Gunzburger and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finite Element Methods for Viscous Incompressible Flows examines mathematical aspects of finite element methods for the approximate solution of incompressible flow problems. The principal goal is to present some of the important mathematical results that are relevant to practical computations. In so doing, useful algorithms are also discussed. Although rigorous results are stated, no detailed proofs are supplied; rather, the intention is to present these results so that they can serve as a guide for the selection and, in certain respects, the implementation of algorithms.
