Book Optimal Boundary Control and Boundary Stabilization of Hyperbolic Systems

Download or read book Optimal Boundary Control and Boundary Stabilization of Hyperbolic Systems written by Martin Gugat and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2015-07-15 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This brief considers recent results on optimal control and stabilization of systems governed by hyperbolic partial differential equations, specifically those in which the control action takes place at the boundary. The wave equation is used as a typical example of a linear system, through which the author explores initial boundary value problems, concepts of exact controllability, optimal exact control, and boundary stabilization. Nonlinear systems are also covered, with the Korteweg-de Vries and Burgers Equations serving as standard examples. To keep the presentation as accessible as possible, the author uses the case of a system with a state that is defined on a finite space interval, so that there are only two boundary points where the system can be controlled. Graduate and post-graduate students as well as researchers in the field will find this to be an accessible introduction to problems of optimal control and stabilization.

Download or read book Stabilization of Distributed Parameter Systems Design Methods and Applications written by Grigory Sklyar and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-01 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents recent results and envisages new solutions of the stabilization problem for infinite-dimensional control systems. Its content is based on the extended versions of presentations at the Thematic Minisymposium “Stabilization of Distributed Parameter Systems: Design Methods and Applications” at ICIAM 2019, held in Valencia from 15 to 19 July 2019. This volume aims at bringing together contributions on stabilizing control design for different classes of dynamical systems described by partial differential equations, functional-differential equations, delay equations, and dynamical systems in abstract spaces. This includes new results in the theory of nonlinear semigroups, port-Hamiltonian systems, turnpike phenomenon, and further developments of Lyapunov's direct method. The scope of the book also covers applications of these methods to mathematical models in continuum mechanics and chemical engineering. It is addressed to readers interested in control theory, differential equations, and dynamical systems.

Book Stability and Boundary Stabilization of 1 D Hyperbolic Systems

Download or read book Stability and Boundary Stabilization of 1 D Hyperbolic Systems written by Georges Bastin and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2016-07-26 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph explores the modeling of conservation and balance laws of one-dimensional hyperbolic systems using partial differential equations. It presents typical examples of hyperbolic systems for a wide range of physical engineering applications, allowing readers to understand the concepts in whichever setting is most familiar to them. With these examples, it also illustrates how control boundary conditions may be defined for the most commonly used control devices. The authors begin with the simple case of systems of two linear conservation laws and then consider the stability of systems under more general boundary conditions that may be differential, nonlinear, or switching. They then extend their discussion to the case of nonlinear conservation laws and demonstrate the use of Lyapunov functions in this type of analysis. Systems of balance laws are considered next, starting with the linear variety before they move on to more general cases of nonlinear ones. They go on to show how the problem of boundary stabilization of systems of two balance laws by both full-state and dynamic output feedback in observer-controller form is solved by using a “backstepping” method, in which the gains of the feedback laws are solutions of an associated system of linear hyperbolic PDEs. The final chapter presents a case study on the control of navigable rivers to emphasize the main technological features that may occur in real live applications of boundary feedback control. Stability and Boundary Stabilization of 1-D Hyperbolic Systems will be of interest to graduate students and researchers in applied mathematics and control engineering. The wide range of applications it discusses will help it to have as broad an appeal within these groups as possible.

Book Modeling and Analysis of Linear Hyperbolic Systems of Balance Laws

Download or read book Modeling and Analysis of Linear Hyperbolic Systems of Balance Laws written by Krzysztof Bartecki and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-21 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph focuses on the mathematical modeling of distributed parameter systems in which mass/energy transport or wave propagation phenomena occur and which are described by partial differential equations of hyperbolic type. The case of linear (or linearized) 2 x 2 hyperbolic systems of balance laws is considered, i.e., systems described by two coupled linear partial differential equations with two variables representing physical quantities, depending on both time and one-dimensional spatial variable. Based on practical examples of a double-pipe heat exchanger and a transportation pipeline, two typical configurations of boundary input signals are analyzed: collocated, wherein both signals affect the system at the same spatial point, and anti-collocated, in which the input signals are applied to the two different end points of the system. The results of this book emerge from the practical experience of the author gained during his studies conducted in the experimental installation of a heat exchange center as well as from his research experience in the field of mathematical and computer modeling of dynamic systems. The book presents valuable results concerning their state-space, transfer function and time-domain representations, which can be useful both for the open-loop analysis as well as for the closed-loop design. The book is primarily intended to help professionals as well as undergraduate and postgraduate students involved in modeling and automatic control of dynamic systems.

Book Control of Distributed Parameter and Stochastic Systems

Download or read book Control of Distributed Parameter and Stochastic Systems written by Shuping Chen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-06-05 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the mathematical treatment of many problems which arise in physics, economics, engineering, management, etc., the researcher frequently faces two major difficulties: infinite dimensionality and randomness of the evolution process. Infinite dimensionality occurs when the evolution in time of a process is accompanied by a space-like dependence; for example, spatial distribution of the temperature for a heat-conductor, spatial dependence of the time-varying displacement of a membrane subject to external forces, etc. Randomness is intrinsic to the mathematical formulation of many phenomena, such as fluctuation in the stock market, or noise in communication networks. Control theory of distributed parameter systems and stochastic systems focuses on physical phenomena which are governed by partial differential equations, delay-differential equations, integral differential equations, etc., and stochastic differential equations of various types. This has been a fertile field of research with over 40 years of history, which continues to be very active under the thrust of new emerging applications. Among the subjects covered are: Control of distributed parameter systems; Stochastic control; Applications in finance/insurance/manufacturing; Adapted control; Numerical approximation . It is essential reading for applied mathematicians, control theorists, economic/financial analysts and engineers.
