Book Singular Perturbation Methods in Control

Download or read book Singular Perturbation Methods in Control written by Petar Kokotovic and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Singular perturbations and time-scale techniques were introduced to control engineering in the late 1960s and have since become common tools for the modeling, analysis, and design of control systems. In this SIAM Classics edition of the 1986 book, the original text is reprinted in its entirety (along with a new preface), providing once again the theoretical foundation for representative control applications. This book continues to be essential in many ways. It lays down the foundation of singular perturbation theory for linear and nonlinear systems, it presents the methodology in a pedagogical way that is not available anywhere else, and it illustrates the theory with many solved examples, including various physical examples and applications. So while new developments may go beyond the topics covered in this book, they are still based on the methodology described here, which continues to be their common starting point.

Book Finite Frequency Analysis and Synthesis for Singularly Perturbed Systems

Download or read book Finite Frequency Analysis and Synthesis for Singularly Perturbed Systems written by Chenxiao Cai and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-28 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a self-contained collection of recent research findings providing a comprehensive and systematic unified framework for both analysis and synthesis for singularly perturbed systems. It paves the way for the gap between frequency-domain-transfer-function-based results and time-domain-state-space-based results to be bridged. It is divided into three parts focusing on: fundamental background of singular perturbation; general singular perturbation methodologies and time-scale techniques and the theoretical foundation of finite-frequency control; the analysis and synthesis of singularly perturbed systems; and real-world engineering applications implementing the results developed in systems like wind turbines and autonomous-aerial-vehicle hovering. It also presents solutions to analysis and design problems in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Lastly, it provides valuable reference material for researchers who wish to explore the design of controllers for such systems.

Book High Gain Observers in Nonlinear Feedback Control

Download or read book High Gain Observers in Nonlinear Feedback Control written by Hassan H. Khalil and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2017-06-23 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For over a quarter of a century, high-gain observers have been used extensively in the design of output feedback control of nonlinear systems. This book presents a clear, unified treatment of the theory of high-gain observers and their use in feedback control. Also provided is a discussion of the separation principle for nonlinear systems; this differs from other separation results in the literature in that recovery of stability as well as performance of state feedback controllers is given. The author provides a detailed discussion of applications of high-gain observers to adaptive control and regulation problems and recent results on the extended high-gain observers. In addition, the author addresses two challenges that face the implementation of high-gain observers: high dimension and measurement noise. Low-power observers are presented for high-dimensional systems. The effect of measurement noise is characterized and techniques to reduce that effect are presented. The book ends with discussion of digital implementation of the observers. Readers will find comprehensive coverage of the main results on high-gain observers; rigorous, self-contained proofs of all results; and numerous examples that illustrate and provide motivation for the results. The book is intended for engineers and applied mathematicians who design or research feedback control systems.

Book Stability Analysis and Design for Nonlinear Singular Systems

Download or read book Stability Analysis and Design for Nonlinear Singular Systems written by Chunyu Yang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-08-14 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Singular systems which are also referred to as descriptor systems, semi-state systems, differential- algebraic systems or generalized state-space systems have attracted much attention because of their extensive applications in the Leontief dynamic model, electrical and mechanical models, etc. This monograph presented up-to-date research developments and references on stability analysis and design of nonlinear singular systems. It investigated the problems of practical stability, strongly absolute stability, input-state stability and observer design for nonlinear singular systems and the problems of absolute stability and multi-objective control for nonlinear singularly perturbed systems by using Lyapunov stability theory, comparison principle, S-procedure and linear matrix inequality (LMI), etc. Practical stability, being quite different from stability in the sense of Lyapunov, is a significant performance specification from an engineering point of view. The basic concepts and results on practical stability for standard state-space systems were generalized to singular systems. For Lur’e type descriptor systems (LDS) which were the feedback interconnection of a descriptor system with a static nonlinearity, strongly absolute stability was defined and Circle criterion and Popov criterion were derived. The notion of input-state stability (ISS) for nonlinear singular systems was defined based on the concept of ISS for standard state-space systems and the characteristics of singular systems. LMI-based sufficient conditions for ISS of Lur’e singular systems were proposed. Furthermore, observer design for nonlinear singular systems was studied and some observer design methods were proposed by the obtained stability results and convex optimization algorithms. Finally, absolute stability and multi-objective control of nonlinear singularly perturbed systems were considered. By Lyapunov functions, absolute stability criteria of Lur’e singularly perturbed systems were proposed and multi-objective control of T-S fuzzy singularly perturbed systems was achieved. Compared with the existing results, the obtained methods do not depend on the decomposition of the original system and can produce a determinate upper bound for the singular perturbation parameter.

Book Singular Perturbation Methodology in Control Systems

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the twin topics of singular perturbation methods and time scale analysis to problems in systems and control. The heart of the book is the singularly perturbed optimal control systems, which are notorious for demanding excessive computational costs. The book addresses both continuous control systems (described by differential equations) and discrete control systems (characterised by difference equations).

Book Nonlinear Control Systems Design 1989

Download or read book Nonlinear Control Systems Design 1989 written by A. Isidori and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-23 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last two decades, the development of specific methodologies for the control of systems described by nonlinear mathematical models has attracted an ever increasing interest. New breakthroughs have occurred which have aided the design of nonlinear control systems. However there are still limitations which must be understood, some of which were addressed at the IFAC Symposium in Capri. The emphasis was on the methodological developments, although a number of the papers were concerned with the presentation of applications of nonlinear design philosophies to actual control problems in chemical, electrical and mechanical engineering.

Book Singular Perturbations

Download or read book Singular Perturbations written by Elena Shchepakina and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-06 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These lecture notes provide a fresh approach to investigating singularly perturbed systems using asymptotic and geometrical techniques. It gives many examples and step-by-step techniques, which will help beginners move to a more advanced level. Singularly perturbed systems appear naturally in the modelling of many processes that are characterized by slow and fast motions simultaneously, for example, in fluid dynamics and nonlinear mechanics. This book’s approach consists in separating out the slow motions of the system under investigation. The result is a reduced differential system of lesser order. However, it inherits the essential elements of the qualitative behaviour of the original system. Singular Perturbations differs from other literature on the subject due to its methods and wide range of applications. It is a valuable reference for specialists in the areas of applied mathematics, engineering, physics, biology, as well as advanced undergraduates for the earlier parts of the book, and graduate students for the later chapters.

Book Nonlinear H Infinity Control Hamiltonian Systems and Hamilton Jacobi Equations

Download or read book Nonlinear H Infinity Control Hamiltonian Systems and Hamilton Jacobi Equations written by M.D.S. Aliyu and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive overview of nonlinear H∞ control theory for both continuous-time and discrete-time systems, Nonlinear H∞-Control, Hamiltonian Systems and Hamilton-Jacobi Equations covers topics as diverse as singular nonlinear H∞-control, nonlinear H∞ -filtering, mixed H2/ H∞-nonlinear control and filtering, nonlinear H∞-almost-disturbance-decoupling, and algorithms for solving the ubiquitous Hamilton-Jacobi-Isaacs equations. The link between the subject and analytical mechanics as well as the theory of partial differential equations is also elegantly summarized in a single chapter. Recent progress in developing computational schemes for solving the Hamilton-Jacobi equation (HJE) has facilitated the application of Hamilton-Jacobi theory in both mechanics and control. As there is currently no efficient systematic analytical or numerical approach for solving them, the biggest bottle-neck to the practical application of the nonlinear equivalent of the H∞-control theory has been the difficulty in solving the Hamilton-Jacobi-Isaacs partial differential-equations (or inequalities). In light of this challenge, the author hopes to inspire continuing research and discussion on this topic via examples and simulations, as well as helpful notes and a rich bibliography. Nonlinear H∞-Control, Hamiltonian Systems and Hamilton-Jacobi Equations was written for practicing professionals, educators, researchers and graduate students in electrical, computer, mechanical, aeronautical, chemical, instrumentation, industrial and systems engineering, as well as applied mathematics, economics and management.
