Download or read book The Political Constraints on Nigerian Economic Development Since the Independence written by Cajetan Iwunze and published by Strategic Book Publishing. This book was released on 2013-02 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since gaining its independence in 1960, Nigeria has never really existed as a unified nation, but rather as scattered tribal sects that often fail to coexist with one another peacefully. This uneasy alliance has led to civil war in the past, and is responsible for the continuing conflict between Muslims and Christians that exists in Nigeria today. Because of these deeply embedded political constraints, Nigeria has also fallen behind in terms of economic development. However Nigeria is not a nation without resources. Many of Nigeria's conflicts are centered around oil. As it stands currently, Nigeria's wealth is concentrated in the hands of the ruling elite and little has been done to improve the situation of the poorest segments of the population. But the prolonged and dismal situation in the Nigerian economy that serves as the inspiration behind The Political Constraints on Nigerian Economic Development Since the Independence is not without a potential solution. Author Cajetan Iwunze intended this book as more than just a statement against the tribal nationalism and the economic bandits that continue to loot the country. It also aims to suggest that if there is a solution, it lies in reforming the country's institutions so that Nigeria's oil wealth can be used for the benefit of everyone. Although he currently lives in the UK, Cajetan Iwunze was born in eastern Nigeria. Mr. Iwunze is an international human rights campaigner, writer and teacher who serves as the Director of Professional Tutors Ltd. and the CEO of Dyswrite Ltd. Download or read book European Foreign Policy in a Decarbonising World written by Sebastian Oberthür and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-24 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contributing to the emerging literature on the geopolitical and foreign policy implications of decarbonisation and energy transition processes, this book sheds light on the future of the European Union’s (EU) external relations under decarbonisation. Under the Paris Agreement on climate change, adopted in 2015, governments are committed to phasing out the emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases over the coming decades. This book addresses the many questions around this process of decarbonisation through detailed analyses of EU external relations with six fossil-fuel exporting countries: Nigeria, Indonesia, Azerbaijan, Colombia, Qatar, and Canada. The authors systematically examine the six countries’ varying dependence on fossil fuels, the broader political and security context, current relations with the EU, and the potential for developing these towards decarbonisation. In doing so, they put forward a series of findings that should hold across varying circumstances and provide a steppingstone to enrich and inspire further research on foreign policy, external relations, and international relations under decarbonisation. The book also makes an important contribution to understanding the external implications of the 2019 European Green Deal. This volume will be of great interest to students and scholars of European environmental and climate policy, climate diplomacy, energy policy, foreign policy, and climate/energy geopolitics. Download or read book International Handbook on Globalisation Education and Policy Research written by Joseph Zajda and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-05 with total page 853 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this Handbook is to present a global overview of developments in education and policy change during the last decade. It has the objective of providing both a strategic education policy statement on recent shifts in education and policy research globally and offers new approaches to further exploration, development and improvement of education and policy making. The Handbook attempts to address some of the above issues and problems confronting educators and policy makers globally. Different articles seek to conceptualize the on-going problems of education policy formulation and implementation, and provide a useful synthesis of the education policy research conducted in different countries, and practical implications. The Handbook, by focusing on such issues as - the OECD (2001) model of the knowledge society, and associated strategic challenge and 'deliverable goals' (OECD 2001:139) - UNESCO-driven lifelong learning paradigm, and its relevance to education policy makers, globally - different models of policy planning, and equity questions that are raised by centralization/decentralization, diversity/uniformity and curriculum standardization issues - the 'crises' of educational quality, the debate of standards and excellence, and good and effective teaching. - will contribute to a better and more holistic understanding of the education policy and research nexus; offering possible strategies for the effective and pragmatic policy planning and implementation at the local, regional and national levels.
Download or read book Repositioning Higher Education in Nigeria written by Babalola Borishade and published by Heinemann Educational Books (Nigeria) Limited. This book was released on 2006 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published for the National Universities Commission in Nigeria, this book is the outcome of a National Summit on Higher Education, which took place in Nigeria in 2002. The summit was convened by the Ministry of Education with the support of Unesco. Its purpose was to thrash out the issues pertaining to the improvement and repositioning of the higher education system in Nigeria, so that is may better respond to the country's needs. The resultant work is a multi-contributory publication covering the breadth and depth of the problems implicated in the higher education system. The papers address for example: the purpose of higher education in a developing country context; the state of universities in Nigeria; management and funding of higher education; the relevance and delivery of curricula; disciplinary, social and religious concerns; and the role of ICTs and new initiatives such as distance learning and virtual library projects. The contributors propose recommendations for improvement, including: the necessity of high- level government interest in education reforms; the importance of university autonomy and academic freedom; the need for both the public and private sectors to support higher education; the need for substantial hikes in government funding for higher education; the participation of stakeholders in policymaking for higher education; and the precondition of good government and democracy for the success of the sector.
