Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sathya Sai global civil religious movement incorporates Hindu and Muslim practices, Buddhist, Christian, and Zoroastrian influences, and "New Age"-style rituals and beliefs. Shri Sathya Sai Baba, its charismatic and controversial leader, attracts several million adherents from various national, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. In a dynamic account of the Sathya Sai movement's explosive growth, Winged Faith argues for a rethinking of globalization and the politics of identity in a religiously plural world. This study considers a new kind of cosmopolitanism located in an alternate understanding of difference and contestation. It considers how acts of "sacred spectating" and illusion, "moral stakeholding" and the problems of community are debated and experienced. A thrilling study of a transcultural and transurban phenomenon that questions narratives of self and being, circuits of sacred mobility, and the politics of affect, Winged Faith suggests new methods for discussing religion in a globalizing world and introduces readers to an easily critiqued yet not fully understood community.

Book Twenty First Century Bollywood

Download or read book Twenty First Century Bollywood written by Ajay Gehlawat and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-05-08 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Key changes have emerged in Bollywood in the new millennium. Twenty-First Century Bollywood traces the emerging shifts in both the content and form of Bollywood cinema and examines these new tendencies in relation to the changing dynamics of Indian culture. The book historically situates these emerging trends in relation to previous norms, and develops new, innovative paradigms for conceptualizing Bollywood in the twenty-first century. The particular shifts in contemporary Bollywood cinema that the book examines include the changing nature of the song and dance sequence, the evolving representations of male and female sexuality, and the increasing presence of whiteness as a dominant trope in Bollywood cinema. It also focuses on the increasing presence of Bollywood in higher education courses in the West, as well as how Bollywood’s growing presence in such academic contexts illuminates the changing ways in which this cinema is consumed by Western audiences. Shifting the focus back on the cinematic elements of contemporary films themselves, the book analyses Bollywood films by considering the film dynamics on their own terms, and related to their narrative and aesthetic usage, rather than through an analysis of large-scale industrial practices. It will be of interest to students and scholars of South Asian Studies, Film Studies, and Cultural Studies.

Book Sathyam Sivam Sundaram

Download or read book Sathyam Sivam Sundaram written by N. Kasturi and published by Sri Sathya Sai Sadhana Trust, Publications Division. This book was released on 2014-04-10 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second volume of “Sathyam Sivam Sundaram” narrates the life history of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, covering the period 1962 to 1968, when He was at the age of 36 to 42 years, in Prof. N. Kasturi’s inimitable, poetic style. Prof. N. Kasturi is the chosen biographer of Bhagawan, who lived with Swami and experienced the Divine Leelas, during these years and it is most appropriate to get this first-hand information from his writings for our benefit. Bhagawan’s historic letter dated 25.05.1947, in His own handwriting declaring His task, vow, and mission is included in this volume. Many incidents and miracles that happened during this period with Bhagawan’s grace are brought out in this volume most interestingly, along with many, appropriate photographs, which will form a garland for the living and loving Divinity, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Prof. Kasturi gives a clarion call to all: “Come! Give me your hand. We shall go along, page after page, sharing the wonder and the wisdom, the awe and the mystery, the truth and the testimony, the glory and the grandeur, and the abundance of the peace.”

Download or read book Loving God written by N. Kasturi and published by Sri Sathya Sai Sadhana Trust, Publications Division. This book was released on 2014-07-30 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the biography of Professor N. Kasturi, the chosen biographer of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. This book is his autobiography, his story, his journey to the feet of the Lord, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. In his own words, "Each of us has to live the volume of biography, which we bring with us, as often as we are born, page after page, chapter after chapter, howsoever punctuated with dots and dashes, interrogations and exclamations, commas and colons, until the sentence ends ultimately with a Full Stop. But, luckily, I have as my inseparable companion and counsel, Bhagawan Himself; He dots the i’s and crosses the t’s as I live the lines on every page. He has made the Book of Life, my biography – momentous and meaningful for me. I must, however, confess that I do not deserve this book on me, by me. There are, I know, millions, who are absorbing the Love of the Living Loving God much deeper, who can, therefore, stand forth as messengers of His Love. They can lead the unloved and the unloving with surer and firmer steps, to the Presence of the Redeemer, the Comforter, the Saviour, the Avatar, the Sai. Nevertheless, when Bhagawan manifested a faint, favourable interest, when someone ventured to whisper to me in His Presence, that a bunch of my reminiscences may be welcomed by many, I was promoted by that smile to embark on this audacious adventure. My memory assumed the role of Chief Editor and hence, the chronicle suffers from imperfect chronology. Since the four parts of “Sathyam Sivam Sundram” relate most of that I have yearned to communicate, this book has become a personal testament, often perhaps too personal to be tolerated, for which act of indiscretion, I ask for pardon. Flattery is the food of fools, say those, who are denied that pabulum. I dare not deny my taste, for I have been fooled by flatterers, who threw appellations like poet, scholar, linguist, humourist, philosopher, and even ant-hill sage! Please dear reader, remember that I am struggling my best to eliminate the poison of the ego and sympathise with me, whenever you find the reptile raising its hood between the lines of this book. A few ‘old students’ of my classes at the University, my grandson, his wife, and a few brothers at Prasanthi Nilayam demanded that I should not give up the work and insisted on the completion of the book. As a result, this book, ‘Loving God’ is now placed at the Feet of the Lord and on the palms of those, who live in the Love of the Lord. Jai Sai Ram."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dharma is generally used in two contexts. One, as duty and the second, as righteousness. Every individual dons a number of roles during his Earthly sojourn. He plays the part of a son, a father, a friend, a disciple, a husband, a professional, a seeker. Each of these roles dictates a certain code of conduct, do’s and don’ts that govern his decisions at various points. One’s dharma serves as guiding star during moments of internal conflict. It serves as a benchmark to action. Understanding the nature of dharma is imperative to holistic decision-making in a world that offers a million options. “Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitaha,” it is said. Dharma protects its protector. Listen to Bhagawan as He speaks of the nature of Dharma and its role in one’s life.

Book excerpt: The Bhagawan Uvacha series brings to devotees the world over, a compilation of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba's teachings in the form of quotations, skilfully compiled and woven together by Shri. N. S. Venkatesh, the compiler. In this book in the series, Only Love, Shri. Venkatesh says, "Love is a very special word. Much spoken of and sadly much misunderstood. Bhagawan speaks of love through images... a sandalwood tree that gives fragrance to the axe that chops it down, a mother whose life holds no value before the life of her little one. Love is all about selfless living, holding nothing back, and giving oneself away completely. How are we to comprehend this divine trait that proverbially ‘makes the world go round’? If love could speak, what would it say? Listen to Bhagawan, love personified, as He speaks in the next few pages..."

When asked to hand over the reins of one’s life to another, one generally feels insecure. One associates giving up with losing control. But, surrender is not about losing control. It’s about allowing a higher wisdom to take charge over one’s life. Surrender is tuning in to a higher will. It’s an attitude, which can change the way you perceive vicissitudes in life. It’s all about letting God flow through. Listen to the Avatar as He speaks of surrender. You might never be the same again."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Acharya Devo Bhava,” state our scriptures. Treat the guru as god. “Teacher” is a very weak, inadequate substitute in English for the Sanskrit word “Guru”. “Guhate Ruhyate Iti Guru,” it is said. One, who dispels the darkness of ignorance is the true guru. A guru is like a lamp that illumines our path to self-discovery. A guru serves to instruct and inspire. He is a companion, a friend, a mentor all rolled into one. A guru leads one to God, to one’s own self. Listen to Bhagawan as He speaks of the guru and the sweetness in a guru-shishya relationship.
