Download or read book Unusual Essays of an Unknown Sri Vaishnava written by M. K. Sudarshan and published by PartridgeIndia. This book was released on 2016-10-19 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unusual Essays of an Unknown Sri Vaishnava gathers together a collection of essays--written not for the scholarly researcher but for the common searcher--that introduces and explores the living faith of the members of a community in India. Called Sri Vaishnava, this ancient community treasures its literary heritage, rich in Vedantic scripture. This inherited collection of texts has received enormous contributions from Sanskrit and Tamil over the last fourteen centuries. The author, M. K. Sudarshan, has taken a novel approach in these essays. Rather than simply recounting the contents of these ancient texts, he approaches them from the perspectives and urges of an unknown member of this community. By taking on the persona of a young, contemporary, English-speaking Sri Vaishnava, the essays explore an intricate and ancient religious universe in the light of present-day sensibilities, attitudes, and angst. While the essays touch on the diverse philosophical and theological elements of Sri Vaishnava thought, they approach the scriptures through the personal struggles of the author to comprehend these ancient beliefs and traditions in light of personal conditioning and the experiences of modern secular life. The result of this combination is the transmutation of Sanskrit and Tamil ideas and idioms into bold, literary recreations featuring contemporary and felicitous English. Essays that explore the faith practiced by a community, Sri Vaishnava, which lives out its ancient religious heritage rooted in Vedantic scripture, and illuminates the author's concurrent search for meaning.

The Brahmans, being the class of intellectuals, educationists and priests, occupy the most privileged rank in the society. Hey have contributed a great deal to the psychic build-up of Indian society. Embodying a large number of communities, they have spreaded over different parts of the country; Sri Vaishnava community is one of them. In the Soujthern peninsula of India, Ramanuja founded the Srivaishnava school of Vaishnavism in the 11the century. His philosophy, Visistadvaita, as well as the religious movements of the Srivaishnavas made a Sri in the intellectuals of the then society. Consequently a large number of the Brahmans who originally were the followers of the Smart tradition, took refuge under Srivaishnavism whose liturgy is guided by the codes of the Pancaratras instead of the Smrtis. This book was released on 2016-10-19 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is less about Sri Vaishnavism as a creed and far more about a modern Sri Vaishnava’s outlook on life. Understanding the ancient Indian spiritual and religious tradition of Sri Vaishnavism can never be complete without some acquaintance with its scriptural literature that is found written mostly in the Sanskrit and native vernacular. In India today, English-educated modern youth, as well as young Indian communities at large in the global diaspora, lacking mastery in either language, completely miss out being able to appreciate and experience life, and the world itself, in the many rare, brilliant and quite “unusual” ways in which their distant ancestors saw it all and recorded their experiences too as scriptural insight. This book is a collection of 18 delightful essays in truly felicitous English, each one of which enables and then vividly brings to life for readers a deep and fresh understanding of the ancestral verities of India.

Book Challenges of Understanding History

Download or read book Challenges of Understanding History written by Prof. Umesh Ashok Kadam and published by Prabhat Prakashan. This book was released on 2023-02-08 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of India, so far, has not focused on a civilizational Bharatiya perspective, emphasizing a geo-political history based on the Nation-state paradigm, rather than a geo-cultural practice based on India’s civilizational antiquity. Until recently, history had been viewed from various ideological lenses- Colonial, Nationalist, Marxist, Subaltern, soon and so forth. These schools have been immensely successful not only in tapping the immense range of sources and exploring the various regions and sub-regions across the subcontinent, but have also contributed towards bringing to light important perspectives concerning the political, economic, social and cultural developments in the history of India from the 8th to the 14th centuries. While tapping into these schools has its obvious advantages, in that they have focused on partial aspects of the grand march of the civilization’s history, a lot still needs to be done.
