Book Ultrathin Magnetic Structures III

Download or read book Ultrathin Magnetic Structures III written by J.A.C. Bland and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-06 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ability to understand and control the unique properties of interfaces has created an entirely new field of magnetism which already has a profound impact in technology and is providing the basis for a revolution in electronics. The last decade has seen dramatic progress in the development of magnetic devices for information technology but also in the basic understanding of the physics of magnetic nanostructures. This volume describes thin film magnetic properties and methods for characterising thin film structure topics that underpin the present 'spintronics' revolution in which devices are based on combined magnetic materials and semiconductors. Volume IV deals with the fundamentals of spintronics: magnetoelectronic materials, spin injection and detection, micromagnetics and the development of magnetic random access memory based on GMR and tunnel junction devices. Together these books provide readers with a comprehensive account of an exciting and rapidly developing field. The treatment is designed to be accessible both to newcomers and to experts already working in this field who would like to get a better understanding of this very diversified area of research.

Book Physics of High Temperature Superconductors

Download or read book Physics of High Temperature Superconductors written by Sadamichi Maekawa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances through carefully conducted quantitative work on well designed, high quality materials characterize the present state of high-temperature superconductivity research. The contributions to this volume present a theoretical and experimental overview of electronic structure and physical properties, including anisotropic features, of high-temperative materials, with a focus on cuprates. In order to enhance the understanding of the mechanisms of superconductivity at high temperatures, this volume is divided into theoretical and experimental parts. The contributions to the two parts correspond to each other, giving readers involved in either area of research activity a reference to findingsof the other. On the other hand, this book gives young physicists high-level information on the present state of research, enhanced by tutorial contributions of leading physicists in the field.

Book Critical Phenomena at Surfaces and Interfaces

Download or read book Critical Phenomena at Surfaces and Interfaces written by Helmut Dosch and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-04-11 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the application of grazing angle x-ray and neutron scattering to the study of surface-induced critical phenomena. With the advent of even more advanced synchrotron radiation sources and new sophisticated instrumentation this novel technique is expected to experience a boom. The comprehensive and detailed presentation of theoretical and experimental aspects of the scattering of evanascent x-ray and neutron waves inside a solid makes this book particularly useful for tutorial courses. Particular emphasis is put on the use of this technique to extract microscopic information (correlation functions) from the real structure of a surface, from buried and magnetic interfaces and from surface roughness.

Book High Resolution NMR Spectroscopy in Solids

Download or read book High Resolution NMR Spectroscopy in Solids written by M. Mehring and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manipulation and Dilution Tools for Ruling Abundant Species "NMR is dead" was the slogan heard in the late 1960s at least among physicists, until John S. Waugh and his co-workers initiated a series of new NMR experiments, which employed the coherent modulation of interactions by strong radiofrequency fields. A wealth of new phenomena was observed, which are summarized in the introduction for the convenience of the unbiased reader, whereas Section 2 collects the basic spin interactions observed in solids. Line-narrowing effects in dipolar coupled solids by the application of multiple pulse experiments are extensively discussed in Section 3. Numerous extensions of the basic Waugh, Huber, and Haeberlen experiment have been developed by different groups and have been applied to the nuclei IH, 9Be, 19F, 27Al, 31p, 63CU in solids. Application of this technique to a variety of systems is still in progress and should reveal interesting insights into weak spin interactions in solids. It was soon realized that rare spins could be used as monitors for molecular fields in the solid state; however, rare spin observation is difficult because of the small signal-to-noise ratio. Pines, Gibby, and Waugh introduced a new concept of cross-polarization, based on ideas of Hahn and co-workers, which allows the detection ofrare spins with increased sensitivity. The dynamics involved are treated in detail. Other sections merely list results obtained by the techniques described and demonstrate their usefulness in the investigation of dynamical problems in molec ular and solid state physics.

Book Hadron And Nuclear Physics 09

Download or read book Hadron And Nuclear Physics 09 written by Atsushi Hosaka and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010-09-07 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume collects papers presented at the international workshop “Hadron-Nuclear Physics 09” held at Osaka, November 16-19, 2009. The series of this workshop has provided opportunities to discuss common interests of hadron and nuclear physics.Hadrons and nuclei show up different layers of phenomena governed by the same dynamics dictated by the fundamental law of the strong interaction, Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). The basic building blocks of matter, quarks and gluons, are confined in hadrons, generating their masses dynamically and breaking chiral symmetry spontaneously. The latter is the origin of the presence of the pion which governs the essential part of the nuclear interaction. Therefore, the common key words are chiral symmetry and pions. This volume contains reports of current achievements in hadron physics including exotic multiquark states, meson production reactions and non-linear dynamics of hadrons, and those in nuclear physics clustering phenomena, exotic neutron rich nuclei and the pions in nuclei. As related subjects, applications to astronuclear physics, including accelerator physics and laser physics are also discussed comprehensively.
