Book Hereditary Gastric and Breast Cancer Syndrome

Download or read book Hereditary Gastric and Breast Cancer Syndrome written by Giovanni Corso and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-17 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the editors and authors provide a comprehensive overview on basic research and clinical aspects of hereditary breast and gastric tumors. In particular, this updated editorial work aims to suggest guidelines for the clinical management of patients with hereditary diffuse gastric and lobular breast cancer. Special attention is given to E-cadherin (CDH1 gene) germline mutations, genetic screening approaches, the underlying molecular mechanisms and pathological and microscopic features. In addition, the book aims to define clinical criteria for genetic screening, and highlights current surgical treatment and clinical approaches for asymptomatic mutation carriers. Other inherited predispositions involving gastric and breast carcinoma are discussed as well. Divided into eight sections, the book starts by providing an epidemiological overview of gastric and breast cancers, followed by a section dealing with new descriptions of genetic pathways in hereditary cancer predispositions. The third section focuses on pathological features of the diseases, in an effort to bridge the gap between discovery and cancer therapy development. Subsequent sections of the book are dedicated to endoscopy and breast imaging, as well as risk-reducing surgeries to curb the risk of developing cancer. The sixth section focuses on the generation of ideas for the identification of targets and novel treatment strategies. Finally, in the seventh section the authors share the story of two patients and their experiences with the diagnosis and treatment of hereditary cancer. This multidisciplinary book brings together multiple disciplines in science and technology; specifically, medicine, surgery and biology. The majority of authors are members of the International Gastric Cancer Linkage Consortium (IGCLC) and of the European Cancer Prevention Organization (EJCPO), with relevant experience in this context. Offering in-depth insights into hereditary cancers, this book represents essential reading for students, researchers, and specialists who want to extend their knowledge on hereditary gastric and breast cancers.

Book Recent Trends in Cancer Biology Spotlight on Signaling Cascades and microRNAs

Download or read book Recent Trends in Cancer Biology Spotlight on Signaling Cascades and microRNAs written by Sundas Fayyaz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-07 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Tissue microarrays and next generation sequencing technologies have assisted us to gather missing pieces of jigsaw puzzle and we now know that deregulation of spatio-temporally controlled signaling cascades play fundamental role in metastasis and resistance against wide ranging therapeutics. This book offers a balanced overview of the rapidly emerging cutting edge research in molecular oncology and good source of knowledge for established oncologists, basic and medical students and pharmaceutical industry associated R&D departments.

Book Spotlight on Gluten New Symptoms for the New Millennium Or Long Standing Symptoms Now Being Recognized

Download or read book Spotlight on Gluten New Symptoms for the New Millennium Or Long Standing Symptoms Now Being Recognized written by Lucille Cholerton and published by Strategic Book Publishing. This book was released on 2012-02 with total page 655 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lucille Cholerton is a specialist in gluten sensitivity and coeliac disease. She and her three grown children all suffer from gluten sensitivity. Read her story in Spotlight on Gluten: New symptoms for the new millennium? Or long-standing symptoms now being recognized? "Age is very pertinent to the subject of gluten sensitivity. This disorder should really be diagnosed in childhood, but if the diagnosis is missed, people can suffer for many years with unexplained symptoms, when something that they are eating every day could be the root cause of their ill health." This book covers the symptoms that Cholerton and her children suffered, and how they improved their health dramatically on a gluten-free diet. The author's research spans twenty years. "In my research I discovered that gluten may be responsible for many autoimmune disorders, of which there are some eighty-eight documented. My doctors knew nothing about this, so I really had to be my own "guinea pig." A former teacher, Lucille Cholerton is now a nutrition counselor and is writing her next books on gluten sensitivity. "There is a dire need for better diagnosis and understanding of this disorder." She is married and lives in Durban, South Africa. She started the Gluten Intolerance/Coeliac Support Group in Durban in 1995. For more information about gluten, visit http: //www.allergysa.org . Book Preoperative Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy

Download or read book Preoperative Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy written by Joseph Ragaz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite recent advances in adjuvant therapies of cancer, the regi mens of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy treatment which are presently available fail to cure the majority of cancer patients. Pre operative (neoadjuvant) chemotherapy represents a new approach in drug scheduling, based on sound theoretical, pharmacokinetic, and experimental principles. The preoperative timing of chemotherapy before definitive sur gery is not a minor change in the therapy of cancer. To be successful, large numbers of practitioners and their patients must participate. Substantial alterations of many aspects of the present management of cancer will have to follow. Therefore, before such therapy can be fully and routinely implemented, results of the novel treatment and its rationale have to be carefully evaluated. In preoperative treatment, other features will likely gain impor tance. For the first time, clinicians have a chance to follow the in vivo response of the tumor exposed to preoperative chemotherapy. The subsequent histological assessment of the tumor sample may likely become an important prognostic guide, permitting more re fined individual approaches to the planning of postoperative adju vant treatment. The value of such a treatment strategy can already be appreciated in the clinical setting, as seen from the therapy of osteosarcoma. Furthermore, preoperative chemotherapy might render previously inoperable tumors operable and hence resectable with a curative intention. The preoperative reduction of tumor bulk may also effectively decrease the need for more radical operations, permitting a more uniform adoption of conservative surgery.
